Sherrod on Breitbart: 'I'd tell him he's a liar'

Washington (CNN) – The woman caught in the middle of a national firestorm said Thursday that, if given the chance, she would tell conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart that he is a liar.

Breitbart, who first posted an edited version of a speech that led to Shirley Sherrod's resignation, said Tuesday on CNN's John King, USA that he had not specifically targeted Sherrod, and had not asked for her to be fired.

But when asked by CNN Chief National Correspondent John King what she would say to Breitbart, Sherrod did not dance around the question.

"I'd tell him he's a liar. He knew exactly what effect that would have on not only - he knew what effect that would have on the conservative, racist people he's dealing with. That's why I started getting the hate mail. And that's why I started getting the hate calls. He got the effect he was looking for," Sherrod said on John King, USA.

And is Sherrod willing to forgive Breitbart?

"[H]e would really need to come and sit down with me and look me in the eye so that we could see if we can find a place," Sherrod said. "I'm not saying I won't forgive him, but we would need to see if we can find a place where that can happen."

In the video first posted by Breitbart, Sherrod can be heard telling an audience at a March 27, 2010, appearance before a local chapter of the NAACP that she had not given a white farmer "the full force of what I could do" to help him save the family farm.

A longer version of the video, discovered after Sherrod was asked to resign from her job at the USDA, revealed that Sherrod's words had been taken out of context.

Breitbart did post corrections Wednesday on blog entries that led to Sherrod’s forced resignation.

"Correction: While Ms. Sherrod did discuss withholding help from a white farmer, it was not during her tenure with the USDA," said a notice posted on one of two blog postings on Breitbart's biggovernment.com website.

A notice on another posting of the Sherrod video footage said: "Correction: While Ms. Sherrod made the remarks captured in the first video featured in this post while she held a federally appointed position, the story she tells refers to actions she took before she held that federal position."

Breitbart did not mention the edited nature of the video he posted or the full context.

Both of the corrected postings were from Monday.

Why did she initially resign then?

I heard Breitbart say on TV that the tape was not about Ms Sherrod but the tape was about the NAACP's cheering and clapping when Ms Sherrod talked about screwing the white farmer – that tape was made this year in an NAACP conference.

And Breitbart – gutless coward that he is – still hasn't apologized.

    What a fool.

This does not reflect well on Ms. Sherrod. Now she's name-calling people with whom she disagrees and labeling them racists.

I think Sherrod has a very good defamation lawsuit against Breitbart. He willfully and intentionally edited the tape to present her as something she clearly is not.

This could happen to anyone. Someone could take a video of Rush and edit it in such a way so as to show that he is a liberal. If that were to happen you would certainly hear the howls of 'Unfair' from the righties.

    What a despicable lot.

    "Conservative, racist people ..."

Engaging in a little defamation yourself, aren't you?

This apology/forgiveness road show is getting tiring. Be big, lady, and get over it. Time to move on.

This isn't the first time a conservative has taken a clip of something and edited it to make someone from an opposing point of view look bad. Heck, I've seen it done many, many, times on YouTube with clips of President Obama and others.

It is pretty bad when conservatives have to stoop so low to edit something so they can have material to attack liberals and progressives.

The sad part is that the idiots from the right actually believe the edited clips in their fabricated context. So many right wingers will almost always believe something if it supports their point of view – even after those things have been debunked.

The administration shouldn't have asked you to resign.

But I like to make three points:
Number one, In the above statement you were quoted saying "he knew what effect that would have on the conservative, racist people he's dealing with", Mrs. Sherrod can you please tell me why are you assuming that he the people he is dealing with are Racist?

Number two: Can you please explain why you couldn't bring your self to complete your sentence in released video and say it is not about black and white. You couldn't, you had to correct yourself and say well it is but it is not? If you truly believe it is not about black and white you could have said it with conviction.

Number three: So discrimination is OK as long as it is done toward wealthy and successful people? I was thought discrimination was wrong against human beings Mrs. Sherrod.

Don't waste your breath; sue Breitbard into bankruptcy for intentional, malicious defamation of your character and he'll have to crawl back under his rock.

The ONLY PERSON with any shred of honor and civility in this whole thing from start to this minute is Shirley Sherrod. She has demonstrated moere class, grace, and clear understanding of humanity that all the rest of them combined, including the POTUS.

Breitbart is an assasin and a coward.

Every darn thing has to be 'racist' with these liberal people. Brietbart was trying to show them in a similiar light because of their accusation of the Tea Party being racist which is simply to get everyone's attention off the New Black Panther group and to get the democrats in a good light and show how racist the rest of us are.

And here is Mrs. Sherrod in answering John King espousing the same bloody thing–saying "all the conservative racist people he deals with', meaning Breitbart. Once again the race card is played. Like fun she's not racist–this just proves it. I am so sick of liberals. Cannot wait till November.

Breitbart should have never released the video like he did. The full 43 minutes is a little long to hold people's attention, but he should have at least played the part where she spoke of seeing the error of her ways and actually helping the farmer. The clapping and laughter from the audience would have been just as apparent. That being said, did she participate in the racial discrimination she described? Obviously, she did. As for the NAACP's feigned shock and indignation, they only expressed this faux outrage when the tape became public. This was said at one of their events. They've had the tape (to employ a recently overused phrase) "since day one."

Breitbart has not only engaged in propaganda, he has engaged in defamation, and possibly wire fraud, in service of propaganda. By his own admission, he did it to make a point he could not make with the truth, and Ms. Sherrod, who was not even a public figure, was only so much collateral damage. What citizen, however quiet, is safe, then, if someone wants to make a point? Both our courts of law and those of public opinion need to be clear that this is unacceptable.

Andrew Breitbart and also fox news and all who was involved in this, need legal action taken against them. This false reporting needs to stop and should be punished, lots of money should leave these people. That is the only thing they fear.

You're right, Shirley, Breitbart is a liar. He also has the social and emotional maturity of a two year-old. You, on the other hand, have displayed nothing but integrity, grace and dignity. Your life has been devoted to serving other people, and you have my vote for CNN's Hero of the Year.

Sherrod should sue him for every penny he has. His actions met every standard for actrionable liable, slander and defamation of character. He showed complete disregard for truth, complete lack of concern for the consequences of his lies and he knew exactly what would would happen.
