Sherrod on Breitbart: 'I'd tell him he's a liar'

Washington (CNN) – The woman caught in the middle of a national firestorm said Thursday that, if given the chance, she would tell conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart that he is a liar.

Breitbart, who first posted an edited version of a speech that led to Shirley Sherrod's resignation, said Tuesday on CNN's John King, USA that he had not specifically targeted Sherrod, and had not asked for her to be fired.

But when asked by CNN Chief National Correspondent John King what she would say to Breitbart, Sherrod did not dance around the question.

"I'd tell him he's a liar. He knew exactly what effect that would have on not only - he knew what effect that would have on the conservative, racist people he's dealing with. That's why I started getting the hate mail. And that's why I started getting the hate calls. He got the effect he was looking for," Sherrod said on John King, USA.

And is Sherrod willing to forgive Breitbart?

"[H]e would really need to come and sit down with me and look me in the eye so that we could see if we can find a place," Sherrod said. "I'm not saying I won't forgive him, but we would need to see if we can find a place where that can happen."

In the video first posted by Breitbart, Sherrod can be heard telling an audience at a March 27, 2010, appearance before a local chapter of the NAACP that she had not given a white farmer "the full force of what I could do" to help him save the family farm.

A longer version of the video, discovered after Sherrod was asked to resign from her job at the USDA, revealed that Sherrod's words had been taken out of context.

Breitbart did post corrections Wednesday on blog entries that led to Sherrod’s forced resignation.

"Correction: While Ms. Sherrod did discuss withholding help from a white farmer, it was not during her tenure with the USDA," said a notice posted on one of two blog postings on Breitbart's biggovernment.com website.

A notice on another posting of the Sherrod video footage said: "Correction: While Ms. Sherrod made the remarks captured in the first video featured in this post while she held a federally appointed position, the story she tells refers to actions she took before she held that federal position."

Breitbart did not mention the edited nature of the video he posted or the full context.

Both of the corrected postings were from Monday.

I have seen the full video, again it seems mr Breitbart is mistaken, she did say she did not give the full she could to help the white farmer and handed his case to a white lawyer. After she realized that the white lawyer did not really care to help the farmer out she then realized it is not about white and black but about those that have and those that do not and she did everything she could to help save the farm. What a piece of garbage Breitbart is and all the attention he tried to place on Ms. Sherrod will now be on him and his racist agenda.

    I'm a conservative.
What we don't need are heavy handed far right nut jobs trying to "help".
Andrew Breitbart is to the right, what Keith Olberman is to the left. He has embarrassed us and set back our progress. He needs to, at the very least, apologize to this lady. He still doesn't get it.

Let's not mince words here. Breitbart is indeed a liar and a fraud. Still, he exposed the conservative racism quite well.

Old Andy forgot to mention that the white farmer DEFENDED Ms. Sherrod because he was able to keep his farm with her help. Breitbarf was just looking to make trouble – and he did. If there's any such thing as karma, he is in for some real hurt.

So Shirley Sherrod calls all conservatives "racists."

Is Anderson Cooper going to do an "Anatomy of a Smear" on this smear?

Sherrod should sue Breitbart and Fox News for slander. And the state and federal AG's should file charges against Breitbart for various hate crimes.

That's called trolling. Briebart trolled the USDA and the NAACP hard, and got the exact effect he was looking for.

I hope that the next biggest headline out if this is that Mrs. Sherrod wins BIG RECORD settlement from FoxNews, Brietbart large enough to close down his ship of lies.Too bad she can't put Limbaugh in there too but you really can't sue a person for being stupid.

We should feel sorry for her and believe that she's a changed person? Well, I for one felt sorry for her until I saw this and now I'm glad this piece of garbage was fired. Let me see if I understand everything. People were wrong to think she was a racist based on limited evidence, but it's okay for her to say ALL conservatives are racist based on NO EVIDENCE? Go away Shirley.

It was an embarrassing mistake of biblical proportions.
Unfortunately it is an all too common mistake. I can tell you
that I am trying to forget the times that I said or did something
based on inaccurate and incomplete information. Oh, for a
    24 hour time machine!

Conservative racist people? I would think that Ms Sherrod would be very careful before labeling people she doesn't know as racists after what she's been though. And Mr Breitbart didn't ask her to pull over in traffic and fire her without a proper investigation or review of the fact. That failure belonged to the Obama administration!!!!

Go get him Shirley. He is a liar, big and fat. Good luck getting an apology. Conservatives don't do that.

She has suffered damage to her reputation, should sue for libel and slander and teach Breitbart and Fox News a much needed lesson.

Shirley Sherrod appears to be more of a straight shooter than most of the media & most politicians. The more we see of this woman the better she looks.

There is no good reason for how Breitbart edited that footage, other than to blatantly misrepresent Sherrod.

Taken in its totality, her speech is actually a rather eloquent refutation of racism. She used to be racist towards white people because of bad experiences she had with them, but life taught her the error of her ways and she realized she was wrong. The same "white farmer" that Sherrod mentions in Breitbart's excerpt has come to her defense. It's actually a touching story that could teach us all a thing or two about overcoming racism.

It's just a shame Breitbard was so blinded by his agenda that he either didn't realize, or didn't care, that the substance of Sherrod's remarks was the exact opposite of the picture he tried to paint with his selectively edited version.

This spewing of false information on our airwaves needs to stop now. Fox is the main bad guy here and unfortunately there are a lot of stupid people in this country who either can't read or won't to find the truth.
I hope she sues him for a fortune and brings attention to this issue that needs defining.
