Rangel will 'be glad to see what happens'

Democrat Charlie Rangel said Friday that he will 'be glad to see what happens' at an upcoming ethics investigation hearing.
Democrat Charlie Rangel said Friday that he will 'be glad to see what happens' at an upcoming ethics investigation hearing.

(CNN) - Rep. Charlie Rangel, D-New York, said Friday that he is taking the congressional ethics investigation "one step at a time."

"I'll be glad to see what happens Thursday" when the House Ethics subcommittee responsible for conducting formal hearings has its first organizational meeting, he said. "This thing is coming to a head."

Rangel added, however, that "nobody in his right mind (would be) looking forward to something like this."

The congressman said he wants "people to know who Charlie Rangel was, is, and is proud to be" before his upcoming September 14 primary election.

People should know "how awkward it has been for me to constantly" tell them to wait until the ethics investigation is over before he can comment, Rangel said.

It is tough not to respond to the "mean" things said about me, Rangel said.

"I won't let you down," he promised his constituents.

Let me add that no one in their right mind would take action that would draw the attention of the Ethics Committee in the first place!

  6. all the news that's fit to omit

This jerk deserves to be in a cell now, start the proceedings right before the elections and get him out of office in disgrace and then jail time will soon follow.

This has gone on for too long as the losers pension and wealth has grown.

Time for him to go, but let's make him and the party look bad first.

    See you in November...................

Here's an example of where progressives differ with Repugnants. Progressives want a complete investigation of Rangel or anyone else, regardless of party, who faces credible charges of ethics violations. Repugnants, on the other hand, have a knee jerk reaction to ethics charges. If a Democrat is charged, (s)he is automatically guilty. If a Repugnant is charged, it's an unwarranted attack.

The proof that this analysis is correct is the total lack of interest on the right to charging Bush/Beelzebub and others from that regime with the crimes they have apparently committed, including torture and the outing of a CIA agent. If the right wing really wanted honest, constitutional government, they would be howling for charges to be brought against Bush and his cronies.

You have to be very skeptical about someone that would talk like this. Like he already knows he can beat the charges.

    Hey Charlie,

Shame on you for insulting Luke Russert when he asked you a simple question. Learn to show some respect!

Don't be surprised if the ghost of Tim Russert pays you a visit!

Why are they singling out Rangel? He has done nothing that is not considered business as usual in Washington.
Why not check every politican in Washington and make public all of the corruption found and name names?

I am the most Lib Dem out there but this guy has got to go. 20 terms in the same job is ridiculous and any good that he has done, and there has been is being overshadowed by all this ethics nonsense. No one party has a monopoly on politicians who have over stayed their welcome and Rangel is one of the Dems.

At least Democratic crooks did so much for their communities, ask the New York-ans about Charlie, they'd give their right arms for him...

If they find violations the Republicans will crow about Democrats being corrupt. If they don't the Republicans will crow about Democrats being corrupt. Hopefully the truth will out and Rangel will take responsibility for whatever, if anything, that he did wrong. However, the standard is still innocent until proven guilty. Something they should have known before the Sherrod fiasco.

rangel has not denied any of the accusations and is probably guilty of them plus many other crimes. I hope when the Republicans take control of the congress they do what the demorats are afraid of and that is do ethical investigations on a large number of demorats pelosi has covered up for since she became the speaker.

I think Congressman Rangel should keep a "stiff upper lip" as he packs his bags to move home for he is innocent until this hearing takes place and his guilt is established.
