Williams resigns as Tea Party Express spokesman

Mark Williams has resigned as the spokesman of the Tea Party Express.
Mark Williams has resigned as the spokesman of the Tea Party Express.

Washington (CNN) – Tea Party Express spokesman and former chairman Mark Williams has resigned his post, the group said Friday in a statement.

Last week Williams penned an inflammatory blog post that erupted into a national controversy and fueled debate about the Tea Party movement and racism. Williams later defended the post as satire.

"The media coverage over a recent satirical posting on my personal MarkTalk.com blog risks injuring the Tea Party Express, the tea party movement as a whole, and the people in this movement who I respect and admire so much," Williams said in resignation letter released Friday. "It has become increasingly unacceptable that the media and our domestic enemies continue to anoint me as the official voice of a massively diverse and broad-based movement."

Williams wrote the incendiary blog post in response to an NAACP resolution that called on Tea Party leaders to crack down on racist elements in the movement.

"Dear Mr. Lincoln," began the fictional letter posted by Williams. "We Coloreds have taken a vote and decided that we don't cotton to that whole emancipation thing. Freedom means having to work for real, think for ourselves, and take consequences along with the rewards. That is just far too much to ask of us Colored People and we demand that it stop!"

Williams went on to write that the Tea Party movement couldn't be racist because it opposed government bailouts for Wall Street banks and big corporations.

"Bailouts are just big money welfare and isn't that what we want all Coloreds to strive for?" the posting said. "What kind of racist would want to end big money welfare? What they need to do is start handing the bailouts directly to us coloreds!"

The National Tea Party Federation, an organization that seeks to represent the Tea Party political movement around the country, expelled Williams and his Tea Party Express organization because of the post Sunday.

In his letter of resignation, Williams said he will continue to advocate for Tea Party issues, but will no longer be associated with the Tea Party Express because his association with the group has become a liability.

"We are in a war for the future of this country and the Left and their allies in the news media have decided to use my personal comments and views as a weapon to injure the Tea Party movement and conservative activists. I will simply not allow them to do this," Williams said.

Williams resigned as chairman of the group in June.

Just one less fruit loop in the bowl of fruit loops.

If this group had to come together under a platform the group would collapse. They are made up of small factions of birthers, marxists, constitutionalists, neo-christians, racists, gun huggers, and people who generally hate the government. And this group could never agree on a relevant platform.

"Domestic Enemies" was a term used by Mr. Williams in his post. "2nd Amendment rights" was another Tea Party Activist talking... It makes you wonder what these right wingers are thinking, Armed rebellion?!? They might have a platform across America, but they neglect to look at the facts, as reported by ACTUAL news sources. The economy is on the way back up, and while unemployment remain high, our great nation is thriving. How about instead of calling those on the left Domestic Enemies, call them Allies? The people on the Left and the Right have one thing in common and that is we are all AMERICANS and want this to be a better place.

ADIOS Williams... you will NOT be missed.

The Tea Party movement has a large minority of racists in it. I am not saying the whole is racists but a concerning large minority. Therefore I would never associate myself with the Tea Party.

    Dear Mr. Lincoln

We Whites have taken a vote and decided that we don’t cotton to that whole emancipation thing. Freedom for minorities means having to work for real, think for ourselves, and compete with a whole lot more people on a level playing field. That is just far too much to ask of us White People and we demand that it stop!

In fact we held a big meeting and took a vote in Teatardistan this week. We voted to condemn a political revival of that old freedom-loving spirit of equality promoted by the ‘civil rights movement’.

The civil rights movement position to “end oppression of minorities and the poor” for example is just silly. Oppression of minorities and the poor is just big money welfare and isn’t that what we want all Whites to strive for? What kind of racist would want to end big money welfare? What they need to do is start handing the bail outs directly to us Whites instead of making us wait for it to pass through our giant corporate monopolies and oligopolies! Of course, the Republican Party and its little brother, the Teatards, are the only responsible parties that should be granted the right to disperse the funds.

And the ridiculous idea of “reduce[ing] the size and intrusiveness of government.” What kind of massa would ever not want to control everyone else's life? As Whites we must have somebody to step on to prop ourselves up...otherwise we would be on our own, have to think for ourselves, make decisions and compete!

The racist civil rights movement also demands that the government “help those who have suffered centuries of historic oppression.” Again, they directly target Whites. That means we Whites would have to compete for jobs like everybody else and that is just not right. Perhaps the most racist point of all in the civil rights movement is their demand that government “use a progressive income tax to help those less fortunate.” That is outrageous! How will we Whites ever get a wide screen TV in every room if Coloreds get to keep what they earn? Totally racist! The civil rights movement expects Whites to be altruistic members of society?

Mr. Lincoln, you were the greatest racist ever. We had a great gig. Even though we had to provide three squares and room and board, all their decisions were made by us. Please repeal the 17th Amendments so we can redistrict state legislatures to pack them with conservatives who will appoint conservatives to the Senate and let us get back to where we belong.

    Sincerely

    Mark Williams, Teatard Grand Dragon

Removing Williams is a drop in the bucket. His leaving won't do anything to address the problem of so much rascism being desplayed in and by the teabagger club.
The "I got mine – screw you" clan.

This guy is sort of a Hitler-in-training, isn't he?

Different potential victims, but pretty much the same B.S.

Fortunately, unlike those who allowed Hitler to gain power, there are enough intelligent people in this country (even a few in the Tea Party), who protested loudly enough to get rid of this jerk. But he will be back, somewhere down the line.

That blog post really does not sound like satire. It clearly says that African-Americans are lazy and dislike work. This is plain racism. Perhaps now Mr. Williams will find a real job now, and learn about the real struggles the American families (including African Americans) go through each day just to make ends meet. Very easy for these politicians/entertainers to spit on everyone's faces. GO WORK FOR A LIVING, WILLIAMS!

really, he says the tea party is in a fight for the future of our country? It seems to me they are in a fight to reclaim the past of our country. The worst of our past. And I've not heard one idea about the future about anything different than keeping the status quo pat.

    The Tea Party isn't racist.

They're just xenophobic ex-Republicans who don't like Mexicans, Muslims, and non-white Presidents.

The liberal media did nothing, this was a racist statement plain and simple. What did you think would happen?
