Washington (CNN) - Veteran Democratic Rep. Charles Rangel of New York confirmed Tuesday that his lawyers are discussing a possible settlement with lawyers for the House Ethics Committee that would avoid a public hearing this week on ethics allegations against him.
"Negotiations are much like the arc of legislative conferences, and that is until everything is agreed upon, there's absolutely nothing agreed upon," Rangel said while leaving the House floor after several votes.
He declined to talk about any details of the negotiations handled by his legal team, saying he was not participating in the talks himself.

The only just "settlement" is Rangel's resignation.
dems continue excusing dems so more dems can screw up the govt. The ethics committee has no honesty, and no charactor to let this crook off with a slight slap on the hand with w wet noodle. He settlement talked with the IRS (not everyone has this privilege), he has settled his leadership position give away (to a temporary give away)
and now he will settle with the ethics committee (which is "the guiltier judging the guilty" since these politicians are all crooks).
If we do not get to see justice done, we do not believe in it. At the time that one party rules the presidency and the senate, they can do what they want– until election day (day of judgement my friends, and it soon approaching!)
