DeMint announces endorsement of Rossi for WA Senate

On Wednesday, South Carolina Republican Sen. Jim DeMint announced his endorsement for Washington Senate candidate.
On Wednesday, South Carolina Republican Sen. Jim DeMint announced his endorsement for Washington Senate candidate.

Washington (CNN) - Republican Sen. Jim DeMint announced his endorsement of Washington Senate candidate Dino Rossi on Thursday.

The move is the latest in a series of endorsements made by the South Carolina senator, many of which have pitted him against either the GOP establishment or former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

"Dino Rossi is a principled conservative who will help us take our country back. He will fight to stop the massive spending, bailouts, and debt that are bankrupting our country," DeMint said in a statement. "Dino understands the stimulus bill was a failure, he will fight to repeal the health care takeover, and he will help us pass a constitutional amendment to balance the budget.

Rossi and two other Republicans, Clint Didier and Paul Akers are in the battle to challenge incumbent Democratic Sen. Patty Murray.

Palin, another prominent Republican who has a full stable of endorsed candidates, backed Didier, a Tea Party favorite and former professional football player with the NFL's Washington Redskins earlier this year.

The 2010 bid is Rossi's third run for statewide office in Washington. He ran for governor in 2004 and 2008.

Washington is the only state in the nation to hold a non-partisan primary, with the top two vote-getters advancing to the general election.

Earlier this year California voters passed a referendum that would move the Golden state towards a similar system.

Talk about a twit-DeMint's many gaffes, acknowledged and not, put him in a league of his own. Let him go endorse whomever he wants to-it _will_ make a difference, that's for sure. Maybe not what the endorsee would like, though.

DeMwit is a good old boy dip-sheet from the great state of bully politickin' Cackalaky. Who cares what he picks. (The only picking he is good at is his nose, did he pick his nose?) Especially the citizens from the great state of Washington. That would be like thinking that the idiot from Wasilla deserved to have a say in it, or anything out side of her own home. Gotta love these grandious Repubs – HAH!!

"Dino Rossi is a principled conservative who will help us take our country back."

Knowing Demint he meant take our country back to pre-labor union days.

GOP= building a tunnel to the 18th century.

If Demented endorsed him, he's a crook. Vote for the other person WA.

I really like the direction the country is going. I don't like bailouts, but I would hate to see what would have happened if we let Bank of America fail. The bailout of AIG saved the US a black eye or even worse. The debt will get taken care of when the economy recovers. First things first. DeMint needs to get out his macro-econ book before he starts talking about the economy. He is way off base.

"Dino Rossi is a principled conservative who will help us take our country back". What Jim really meant was that Dino Rossi will help him take our country BACKWARDS. Thanks, but no thanks.

"Take the country back"? I pay my taxes; this country is not more yours than it is mine, so get over yourselves with this narrow thinking. Like it our not, we share this country. Until you can play in the same sand box, rather than just crap in it, you're not helping at all. Sick of the whining self-righeous GOP who care only about lining their own pockets.

Let's hope that Patty Murray keeps her seat – she's done wonders for the state of Washington. Patty and Maria – like Maggie and Scoop in the '70's. And Washington State will continue on the road to recovery. We're still mucking our way out from the Republican overlords of eight years.

As someone that lives in Washington State, why is it exactly that I should care what some politician in South Carolina thinks of the politicians here? I mean really now! Take care of your own state....you guys have enough problems of your own, you don't need to meddle in our business.

Dino did not win either of the last 2 state elections against a democrat in Washington State due to the large population of democrats in Western Washington...what makes him think he is going to win this time?

Yeah, Jim DeMint is REALLY popular in Seattle (hint: if you can't win Seattle & King County, you can't win the state of Washington - we outnumber the Alabama east of the mountains by A LOT.) It's good to see this endorsement trumpeted on the front pages of the Times and the PI (online). It will even turn off eastside Republicans who are more Scott Brown of MA types than the extreme far right movement conservative that Jim DeMint is. Thanks, DeMint! You're a great albatross to hang around Rossi's loser neck!

"Take our country back" – back from whom?

We elected the current administration. Does he mean take it back from the citizens?

Demint would like nothing better than have the Republicans in charge to rape and pillage the country all over again.

Where was the big mouth DeMint when Bush was bringing our country to the brink of bankruptcy? He was voting right along party lines. Essentially DeMint is one of the guilty.

Jim DeMint should butt out of Wa. State politics. After all look at his state and how well it's doing! Look at their political situation! Dino Rossi is a tool. He unsuccesfully ran for governor twice and lost by a lot both times because nobody like him. What little ideas he has are all comical he is the standard GOPer party of NO. Jim please stay out of this race and let us Wa. State voters pick who they want to pick! Hey doesn't Dino Rossi look like The Situations dad?

I do not doubt that some of these "conservatives" have principles. The problem is that these "pricipled conservatives" resemble a tornado in a pecan grove: all high wind and flighty nuts. Do we really want the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendments repealed, the public education system dismantled, direct election of US senators abolished, and only the propertied allowed to vote? In medieval England and nineteenth- century Russia, collared serfs were white and native-born. Be careful what you wish on "those people". It may be you who will get it.

Is he principled like the how the Republicans ran the House and Senate during the first 6 years of the Bush Administration? There was almost no check on spending. Rarely was there any protest about a spending bill being too big. I don't want that kind of conservative elected again.

These people who want to "take our country back" are the real threats to the Constitution ...which set out the rules that allowed a majority of Americans to elect President Obama who was then sworn in, Constitutionally, by the Chief Justice ... who couldn't get 37 words right ... !

Take our country back to where? Slavery? Women not allowed to vote? 50 hour work weeks? Child labor? McCarthy Era or just Jim Crow? They never say ...

No. We do not need anymore Republican anything. This country, already hanging on by it's collective fingernails, is being torn apart by Republican bigotry. We need to stop the madness and make the Republicans go get some honest work outside of Washington.
