Sherrod plans to sue Breitbart

Shirley Sherrod said Thursday that she plans on suing Andrew Breitbart.

Shirley Sherrod said Thursday that she plans on suing Andrew Breitbart.

(CNN) - Former Agriculture Department employee Shirley Sherrod said Thursday she will pursue a lawsuit against conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart.

Breitbart posted an edited video clip of Sherrod appearing to say she discriminated against a white farmer looking for assistance. The clip showed her addressing a chapter of the NAACP.

"I will definitely do it," she said when asked whether she was considering legal action. Sherrod made her remarks during an appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists convention in San Diego, California.

Breitbart "had to know that he was targeting me," Sherrod said. "At this point, he hasn't apologized. I don't want it at this point, and he'll definitely hear from me."

Breitbart has stated he wants to destroy the left. All he has managed to do is destroy his won credibility. I am thrilled Ms. Sherrod is suing him. Defamation of character is illegal and he deserves to be skewered for his dispicable actions.

This situation involving Mrs. Sherrod may in fact help nail to the wall anyone who attempts to do this sort of thing in the future. Suing Breitbart will slow, if not stop, these types of smear tactics - as it should.

    For what?

For posting a video of you, a public figure, filmed in public, at a public event, publicly saying the stupid sh!t that fell out of your dumb cheeseburger-hole? (by the way, nice triple-chin)

So, any word on suing, ya know, THE ACTUAL PEOPLE WHO FIRED YOU???

Or maybe even the NAA[L]CP for hosting the bigoted forum to begin with?

Ever notice the only people still talking about race and racism are those who stand to profit the most from the perpetuation of manufactured racism and manufactured offense? Namely Democrats, the NAA[L]CP, the Reh-wund Jess-uh Jacks-nnnnnnnn and Shakedown Sharpton? Everyone else has "moved on." Maybe it's time the poverty pimps do the same.

She doesn't have much of a case against him. She has a better one against the USDA and possibly the NAACP, but I guess she got hustled by Obama, so she is going this route.

This woman is "sue" happy. Just check her past records.

And you, some guy in New Hampshire – check you facts before you spew crap – Fox News nor Glen Beck made no mention, whatsoever, of Sherrod before she was fired! Get your anger up and the department of crap that fired her!

    >How about she sues the people who actually fired her?!? This woman is awful.

No, it's you and your loathsome words that are awful. Apparently you think America is so imperfect, that it's OK to libel people and destroy their lives to further your own agenda.

Why do you violate the 9th Commandment?

    Why do you hate America?

Good...the guy was clearly negligent and made admissions to that effect when he was confronted with having published the chopped-up video. Take him for a ride.

If FOX news is such a tabloid then why would anyone take it seriously?
Do you listen to what the STAR has to say? NO
Everyone up to and including the president is at fault for this poor lady being fired. They should all be sued for their part in this. Not hung.

    Get over your hateful selfs.

By the way if any of you were smart you would alredy know that MSNBC and CNN were the first to break this false news story, when FOX aired the story she had already been fired.

Amen !! hopefully, he will answer and be punish for all the hate filled, fear mongering racist garbage he has been peddling uncheck since our President was elected to his right wing base, to and including destroying an outstanding organization in Acorn. The long arm of Justice will finally reach out and return him to real facts.

Libel is difficult to prove in this country, unlike England and some others. However in this case, it looks like an open and shut case. Breitbart fabricated lies with the intention (and result) of damaging the career of a private individual, and he passed those lies off to the media, which published them to the world.

I'm all for free speech, but you can't yell "Fire!" in a crowded theater.

"At this point, he hasn't apologized. I don't want it at this point, and he'll definitely hear from me."

Sue the living daylights out of him Ms. Sherrod!!! He hasn't even issued you an apology, and you'd be right, this late in the game, in NOT accepting one. Hit him where these people have their feelings stashed: in his pockets. What this man did was despicably evil. For all he knew, in the current Fox and right wing created climate of intolerance and blatant hate he could've started acts of civil unrest where people could've been hurt. He cared not a fig about the consequence of his actions; certainly not how they would afect YOUR life Ms. Sherrod and how people would henceforth view you, and he definitely couldn't have cared less about the efects his malicious and PREMEDITATED actions would have on other individuals.

I'm so glad that you as a private citizen can and will take the only course of action that would have any impact on pond scum like this jerk and his ilk. It is unfortunate that members of government whoa re continually smeared and lied about cannot or will not do the same.

    @ GI Joe July 29th, 2010 12:44 pm ET

She should sue Beck and Fox Noise also.

Get your facts straight, idiot...she was fired WELL BEFORE any mention of her speech on Fox or Beck. And Beck DEFENDED her.

Good for her. It's sounds pretty clear there was an intent to defame. I hope she goes after Fox News next. That might be harder but it will at least highlight Fox News for the hack journalism station that they are. What kind of "news" station doesn't check out its sources and do their due diligence before running with a story???

She should do everything she can within the limits of the law to punish and chastise this ass. The complete opposite of what the sleazy scum-bags like Breitbart would do – stay within the law.
