Clinton: Chelsea looks beautiful every day

(CNN) - Camera crews caught up with former President Bill Clinton on Friday in Rhinebeck, New York, the site of his daughter's upcoming wedding.

While he mostly kept quiet as he moved through the crowd that had gathered after his arrival, when asked by a reporter if he was excited, Clinton said "you bet"

The follow up question: "Is your daughter going to look beautiful?"

"She looks beautiful every day to me," Clinton said

There are reports of lavish spending on the wedding: seven figures, some reports say even eight figures.

But a longtime Clinton family friend pushes back, telling CNN National Correspondent Jessica Yellin the cost is actually less than $1 million. Regarding the many wedding planners who are guessing at the cost of Chelsea's wedding – this Clinton family friend tells CNN, "Maybe it's because these planners said they couldn't do it for less than 2 to 5 million – that's exactly why they weren't picked as the planner."

There has been so much jawing about what the Clintons are spending on their only daughter's wedding celebration. I say "what the heck, they are helping out the world economy. I wish they had six daughters."

Congrats to Chelsea and Marc. I wish we had ol' Bill back in The White House too. Whatever his shortcomings, he was a great president. I've lived through 10 of them and as an independent, he's the only one who made me believe in a place called Hope. If he ran again today, he would win. Godspeed to The Clintons. Warts and all.

Best wishes to Chelsea and her soon to be husband. She is a great example of how children in the public eye should turn out!

You people amaze me. You'd think this is the first person to ever get married.

They are wasting all this money and you're calling her a princess and the Clinton powerful.

You've all drank the koolaid. We have no royalty in America and I'm sick of hearing people trying to give this idiotic non-title to someone.

And all these powerful people you refer to you were trying to annihilate when he was in office.

I do not care to hear on thing about this or any special occasion like this. I'd bet money Chelsea wouldn't mind if everyone else minded their own business.

How much is the tax payer spending on keeping the air ways save for a freaking wedding.

When is the rest of the country going to get this kind of treatment when these same people you worship are telling you that you do not deserve entitlement and we have to raise taxes to support or salaries while you're on furlough or out of a job.

How many people could have a job is our so called servants made as much as us instead of a hundred times what any average American makes and if you doubt these figures look to California and Bell County near LA and their commissioner's and police chief and their salaries where California is, as it has been for several years on the brink of bankruptcy and their only solution is raise more taxes.

    Happy Wedding!!!!!

Good luck and God Bless! To those that think President Obama was snubbed, get real. This sitting President of the United States would have had so much security that it would have been a fiasco. You can tell that President Obama and the Clinton's get along just fine. Stop looking for some controversy.

  10. Sour Palin strikes again....

In spite of all the 'ugly duckling' comments made about her as a young teenager, she has blossomed into a lovely young woman. She is smart, educated and has lead a clean, productive life. She possesses an inner beauty and integrity severely lacking in many girls. More kids should be looking up to her instead of idolizing the Snookie-types, movie stars, porn stars, pop and rap singers, and reality show knuckleheads.

Best wishes to her for a happy, healthy life.

The reason Pres. Obama was not invited is because he would be a distraction. Guests and press would pay more attention to the active president than Chelsea. And whatever your political or cultural beliefs, when it's wedding day, nobody, and I mean NOBODY distracts attention from the bride.

Is there anybody else who doesn't care a rap about this wedding? I have no interest in knowing anything about it, NOT ONE THING!!! I also resent that we are probably paying for all the security and who knows what else out of our tax payer monies. Never liked Chelsea and never will. Never cared for Hilary and never will. Bill? Eh I can take him sometimes but not as much as he's covered in the media. I wish they would all go away forever.

Get in the real world ! This is Chelsea's wedding. The Obama's are not personal friends of hers. Inviting them would only provide a photo op for the press and take all eyes off of her and the groom where everyone's eyes belong. It is not a slight because the Clinton's hate the Obama's. It was the very correct thing to do.

In response to the comment from valwayne, I'm sure that there was a discussion between the President and the Secretary of State along the lines of it is a private FAMILY wedding and not a "political opportunity" for anyone. Not inviting the President was the proper thing to do, and reading into it that it heralds the candidacy of Hillary in 2012 is ridiculous.

To the reader who "hopes the tabloid stories of cheating already are untrue" – why the h*** do you or anyone else with a brain read those things? If you must read them then for heaven's sake have the good sense NOT to admit it publicly!

  18. Who's Sane Obama?

I'm sorry but Chelsea Clinton is about as interesting as Sarah Palin or her children (or their boyfriends). Why don't you leave that stuff to People magazine? Isn't this supposed to be the POLITICAL Ticker? Why all the gushy gossip here?

    July 30, 2010 09:11 pm at 9:11 pm |

So Chelsea's soon-to-be father-in-law is a former Democrat congressman – AND convicted felon who served several years in prison for fraud! What, corrupt and criminal Dem politicos close to Bubba? Waters, Rangel, ad nauseam. Say it ain't so!

  20. Who's Sane Obama?

The question is not whether Hillary will run for president in 2012 – she will. It's whether Barack will run again. He'll never be re-elected and I don't see the Greek God who descended from heaven down to Denver stadium in 2008 being humble enough to accept a certain defeat. That would be tantamount to the American people publicly saying to him "you failed". I think he's too fragile for that. So Hillary it is for 2012.

I love the response from the spokesperson about the cost of the wedding! Sounds like those "planners" who didn't get the job just might be showing a little green monster...jealous much?

Best wishes to the Clinton's. What an exciting time for them all.

Of course Rush picked on a twelve-year-old girl, for such is his speed and class. And to have two living (and one serving) Democratic Presidents at this wedding would have been to attract a McVeigh wannabe, especially when the serving President is*****. Even if nothing had happened, everyone would have worried about it. Anyway, as to the young couple, may God grant them wisdom and true love.

  25. The reality is...

yeah, she looks beautiful every day. OK that's settled now who else can look beautiful with the help of taxpayer $$? Well of course, the rest of the offspring of all the government elite which our tax dollars support endlessly. Money can make almost anyone look beautiful.
