Clinton: Chelsea looks beautiful every day

(CNN) – Camera crews caught up with former President Bill Clinton on Friday in Rhinebeck, New York, the site of his daughter's upcoming wedding.

While he mostly kept quiet as he moved through the crowd that had gathered after his arrival, when asked by a reporter if he was excited, Clinton said "you bet"

The follow up question: "Is your daughter going to look beautiful?"

"She looks beautiful every day to me," Clinton said

There are reports of lavish spending on the wedding: seven figures, some reports say even eight figures.

But a longtime Clinton family friend pushes back, telling CNN National Correspondent Jessica Yellin the cost is actually less than $1 million. Regarding the many wedding planners who are guessing at the cost of Chelsea's wedding – this Clinton family friend tells CNN, "Maybe it's because these planners said they couldn't do it for less than 2 to 5 million – that's exactly why they weren't picked as the planner."

I've read various stories that this wedding will cost anywhere from $3 to $5 million. If this is true, how can anyone, even the Clintons, justify spending this kind of money when so many do without. I understand this is a 'special day', but spending this amount of money on a wedding/party is even obscene for the Clinton.

In a time where we are being asked to "share" the wealth, what are the Clintons sharing???

It makes perfect sense that Obama wasn't invited to the wedding. It would take complete focus away from the bride. It is HER day and will be a media circus enough already without the Obamas and double the Secret Service.

However, my invitation must've blown off the porch!

I can understand if the Clinton did not invite Obama for this is Chelsea's day and I think if Obama and Michelle showed up, it would take away from Chelsea and its likely the Obama's know that.

Why in the world would Chelsea invite Obama??? He'd get all the attention when the bride should be the one getting it. Obama explained this on THE VIEW.

There's only so much shrimp cocktail to go around with all the Secret Service men already there because of Clinton. It makes perfect sense.

    Re: Branden

I have to disagree with you on this one, being that those two questions were the only two he addressed I would have to say it was stellar journalism. I wouldn't expect you to understand that though considering that's the comment you would leave on an article about the wedding of a former white house resident...

For those who don't understand why Clinton didn't invite our Prez: how would you like, as the father of the bride, to be eclipsed at your own daughter's wedding, by the current President? It wouldn't make sense.
As for "lavish"..y'know what? If you got the money, plz spend it. The economy needs to be stimulated by any means of spending on our products!
Congratulations Chelsea and be happy in your marriage!

Chelsea deserves a beautiful day. Best wishes. And, go Hillary...look out Mr. President. Obama is a disaster.

Bravo to the Clintons and all their well wishers on this blog. Classy–especially those of you who don't particularly care for them. To the person who managed to twist this into a jab at president Obama, please save your venom for more appropriate venues, not a lovely young woman's wedding.
