Washington (CNN) - Sen. John McCain said Monday he would lift a "hold" on the confirmation of James Clapper to be the Director of National Intelligence if he receives a report he's requested for the past 18 months.
Brooke Buchanan, McCain's spokeswoman, had said earlier in the day that the Arizona Republican would hold up a Senate vote on Clapper because he never received the report.
Later in the day, McCain said he received assurances he would get the report "tonight or tomorrow," and that once he gets it, he will lift his hold. McCain also said he was likely to vote for Clapper's confirmation.
"As an ex officio member of the intelligence committee and senior Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, I expect when people look me in the eye and say, 'I'll get a report over to you,' that it comes over," McCain said. "That's what I really care about. Congressional oversight."
What is the definition of Crotchety?
I wish he would have taken this long before he made the stupidest decision of his life and picked that idiot from Alaska for his V.P.
More Of The GOP (Grandstanding Obstructionist Party) Delay, Distract, And Demagogue Playbook!
This just goes to show the level of McCains Intelligence. Go back to the Ha Noi Hilton John, and leave the U.S. of A. a lone.
More Republican delay & stall.
"Tell Me What to Say, and I'll Say It" – McCan't Remember What he used to stand for – demonstrating yet again what the world has come to expect from the Republicant's – Looking foolish & Killing Jobs to save their own!
Another GOP senator holds up a conformation? No news here.
Two words Mr. President; Recess Appointments
Big Surprise! He equals=bitter, old, and goat.
Where is the old John McCain I used to know & love? He used to vote his conscience regardless of party loyalty. Unfortunately, now he is nothing more than a loyal GOP lapdog...for shame.
Just what I would expect from former GObP leader. Still a sore loser!
An inept idiot that sang like a lark in Nam, selected trailer trash for a VP candidate, and doesn't know how many housed he owns.
After he stalls for a few weeks or months, he'll vote no.
He's too yellow to vote no now and get it over. He's a yellow-bellied coward hiding behind skirts and his hero Rush Limbaugh.
Please vote next time to relegate this guy to the Golf-coarse!
James Clapper is a retire Air Force Lt. General, and career intelligence professional who is waiting to be appointed to the Nation's top intelligence spot.
Let me guess...the GOP is holding up his nomination until he swears that he is anti-union and anti-gun control, and promises not to investigate any fringe right wing groups.
These guys held up the appointment of Erroll Southers for months, whining about him not promising to forbid unions in the TSA until we were hit by an attempted terrorist attack on an airliner. Southers eventually quit in disgust, and the TSA went without a head for another six months. Do these people even CARE about national security anymore, or is it all politics.
I wish the old coot had been this careful about his vp selection. He could have saved face instead of his tombstone now saying . . . .
He gave us the imbecile from AK – rot in hell!
"Country First!" this shows how little that was really worth
What type of report is so important that McCain has to hold up a nomination for the receipt of it? Is this just another bit of grandstanding on the part of McCain? Who knows anymore since this guy has flip flopped so many times everyone has lost count.
Heck, even his own family does not agree with him on the majority of issues.
Obama should appoint him without any confirmation from senate.
Should James Clapper get off your lawn as well, McCain?
Obama needs to ignore this idiot and make a recess appointment. McCain is a disgrace.
I hope this is a relevant report Mr. "Country First" is seeking, and that it is just not another GOP tactic holding the U.S. hostage to partisan politics.
mccain is a useless old man trying to hold on to power. his views are still in the vietnam era and nobody really cares what he thinks any longer. he needs to retire from politics because his legacy is already tarnished forever for what he did to the american people. he unleashed the worst form of evil, most non qualified idiot to help him win an election that he himself was to old an unqualified to run. he is senile and unable to make decisions for our future.
