California congresswoman charged with House ethics violations

Rep. Maxine Waters was charged Monday with House ethics violations.
Rep. Maxine Waters was charged Monday with House ethics violations.

Washington (CNN) - A House ethics investigative panel has charged a high-ranking Democratic congresswoman with violating House rules by seeking federal financial assistance for a bank with ties to her husband.

According to the House ethics committee, California Rep. Maxine Waters helped arrange a meeting in September 2008 between a bank she and her husband had ties to financially and Treasury Department officials.

The bank was seeking federal assistance. Waters is a senior member of the House Financial Services committee.

Waters insists she did nothing wrong.

"I have not violated any House rules," she said in a statement released Monday. "I simply will not be forced to admit to something I did not do and instead have chosen to respond to charges made by the [ethics committee] in a public hearing. ... The case against me has no merit."

Has anyone seen some of her quotes on youtube? It's amazing this lady can find the right building every day to get to work. Only in California...... can't we just get rid of that useless state and it's exponentially mounting debt already?

    Going to call this now.

Race is going to enter the picture. the NAACP is going to claim some crap. Obama is going to get involved. And nothing will happen to her, charges dropped.

Seems the swamp isn't nearly as empty as Pelosi would want us to believe.

Truth be told I bet there these cases only scratch the surface and a "draining of the swamp" would results few recognizable faces on either side of the aisle.

Fairly, they have to equally investigate all the 435 U.S. Representatives and all the 100 U.S. Senators. Then they have to tell American people anything they have found.
Otherwise, the panel itself is breaking the most impotant ethic, which is fairness.

Just out of curiosity, does it look like in that picture above, that the 'Lady from California' is speaking to the 'Gentleman from New York' who is ALSO before the Ethics Committee?

    Hmmmmmmm

I am glad to see Rep. Waters was caught. I just have a feeling that fewer than 1% of these deals involving Congress will ever be uncovered.

Yeah.. she's done nothing wrong. That's why she was charged. Charges by the House Ethics Committee are not issued without considerable forethought.

It's about time that she was charged with an unethical offense. These people think they are above the law and can pull strings because of the positions they hold. The Ethics panel must have some evidence of wrongdoing to charge her with this issue It is about time the swamp is starting to drain.

Criminal behavior should be rooted out, prosecuted and punished. Members of Congress, while they should be held to higher standards, are turning out to be an embaressment to the nation.

Imagine that! A "black woman" being charged with breaking the law?
They MUST be racist. She and Charlie belong in the same cell (or should I say, cave). GUILTY AS CHARGED and required to serve the sentence that any ordinary person would be required for the same CRIMES.
So long Charlie and Maxie Baby!

I guess when Pelosi drained the swamp she failed to remove all the creatures that lurked in the mud. Disgraceful.

Well, here go the Teabaggers. Many of them will slant this, very carefully, as not just a Dem issue but as a black one as well.

They must be popping corks all over the south. Between the guy who was "appointed" to take Obama's place in Ill., the Rangel mess and now this. I have a feeling the number of white sheets sold in the south (and the north too) is going to skyrocket.

There are already a number of neo-Nazi sites using the above examples (and more) that black people can't handle politics. One of them goes so far as to say that criminal behavior is "built in" to the black race and that they are finally "vindicated". They do fail to bring up all the white politicians busted over the years but these groups have always exceled at cherry-picking data.

Woo Hoo! Just in time for the November elections! First Charlie now Waters? I guess Pelosi did drain the swamp and now all that's left is the scum. I'm glad that dumocrats will be voted out in November. It's time for real change in Washington.

It's about time. Democrats have been pointing their fingers for so long they forgot what they were sent to Washington to do. Congress will be a better place with both Waters and Rangel are expelled.
