Magazine: Bristol Palin, Levi Johnston engagement called off ... again

Bristol Palin has ended her engagement to Levi Johnston, People Magazine reported.

(CNN) - Bristol Palin has called off her engagement to Levi Johnston, People Magazine reported Tuesday.

"It's over. I broke up with him," Bristol Palin told People Magazine. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told the magazine her daughter has learned a valuable lesson: "to trust but verify."

Last month, Bristol and Johnston became reengaged without first informing Sarah Palin.

At the time, the Palin family issued a statement that stopped short of a full-throated endorsement.

And in her statement to People Magazine published Tuesday, Sarah Palin made her wishes for Bristol known.

"I wish for Bristol to be able to move forward in life with her same forgiving, gracious, optimistic spirit, but from henceforth she'll know to trust but verify. Bristol is strong, she is independent, and she knows what is right for her son," the former vice presidential candidate said.

And as for the reasons, Bristol told People that a trip to Hollywood was the final straw.

"The final straw was him flying to Hollywood for what he told me was to see some hunting show but come to find out it was that music video mocking my family," she said. "He's just obsessed with the limelight and I got played."

In what the magazine calls an emotional interview, Bristol said "There's been no remorse," and that she has only seen Levi once in the past three weeks.

Their teenage relationship fell under an intense public spotlight after Sen. John McCain picked Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate in August 2008. The couple broke off their first engagement about two months after their son's birth in December 2008.

After they broke up, Johnston posed in Playgirl Magazine and said on "The Tyra Banks Show" that they had been allowed to live together, a charge the Palin camp denied.

Johnston irked Sarah Palin last fall by claiming that she referred to her infant son Trig, who has Down syndrome, as "retarded." According to Us Weekly, she fired back, telling reporters that anyone who posed for Playgirl would "say and do anything for even more attention." Later, during an interview with Oprah Winfrey, she called his "aspiring porn" career "heartbreaking."

During a nasty custody battle last year, Johnston asked that the case be conducted in public to protect him from Sarah Palin, whom he said was "powerful, politically ambitious and has a reputation for being extremely vindictive."

Bristol Palin said in the custody hearing that Johnston wanted a public case so he could "continue to make a spectacle of this custody dispute for his own self-promotion."

Bristol Palin noted in the court case that Johnston's mother, Sherry Johnston, pleaded guilty to a felony drug charge this year.

Bristol Palin asked that the paternal grandmother be barred from having any unsupervised visitation with Tripp. Her petition said she "may re-offend, keep medications around the house which could be accessible to the baby, have illegal drug users come to the house (or she could take the baby in her car during a drug sale)."

Johnston's response said his mother's "chronic pain condition is currently being managed in coordination with the Department of Corrections."

On July 7, Johnston publicly apologized to the Palin family in a statement to People Magazine, saying some of his comments about the family were not totally true.

"Last year, after Bristol and I broke up, I was unhappy and a little angry. Unfortunately, against my better judgment, I publicly said things about the Palins that were not completely true," Johnston told People. "I have already privately apologized to Todd and Sarah. Since my statements were public, I owe it to the Palins to publicly apologize."

You know to knock the woman is one thing but when it's your kid being duped I wonder how you will feel. She was used and he scum, that kives on the bottom of Kathy G. feet. He should go to her as they truely deserve each other. I would bet money she put him up to it.

Wait a minute. I thought children were best off being raised by their biological parents. Shouldn't Sarah Palin insist that Bristol and Levi get married for the sake of the baby?

Can't this messed up Palin soap opera just finally be over? Just go raise your brood in Wasilla and stop trying to be celebutards. It is soooo boring. I would never watch your shows, vote for you or put one penny in your or your offspring's coffers. Isn't the baby daddy's 15 minutes about done?

It looks like Bristol's a liar, just like mom. Why would Levi tell her that he might have gotten another girl pregnant? That same girl publicly said it's impossible, since they haven't "dated" since middle school!

It's for sure Bristol's a hypocrite, just like mom. Going to People magazine to announce the break up and trash Levi for wanting the lime light. ROFLMAO!!

A shame but so long as Ms. Palin doesn't try to screech her personal virtue, it's the family's private business.

    Liberal salvating?...Hmmn...See above...
As yet I see no cottage industry of fact-less hate books for Sarah as were spewed over the Clinton years by the likes of the despicable if late Olsen and others. "Going Rouge" is satrical but fact-based, something rare among the extreme right regards HiliaryClinton, etc. Ms. Palin has claimed her running from her job as governor was the need to protect her family and it's legit to wonder how she'd do as President if she folds that easily...Or if there was something more there being only two real reasons a politician quits a secure job. Geniune illness of self or family member or approaching scandal...

Finally, let me correct one commentator...David Letterman is a comedian with a nightly comedy talk show...He's not a reporter or journalist.

Jerry Springer could do a month of shows just using the Palin family and their non-in-laws.

Next week, Levi does the talk show circuit bashing silly Sarah again. Maybe the Republicans realize that Levi was more of a liability than an asset. I just wish this family would just go away!!!

The entire group is trash. This a Jerry Springer classic. Bristol is dumb as her mom. Who didn't see this coming when they " got back together"? This is the worse than any cheap paperback.

Told ya! She got him to confess the lies he spoke about her mother and ther rest of her family, then dumped him, again. Commitment is limited in that family.

CNN the dirt bag of news. They always put Palin on the ticker because this is the only big response they are getting lately from the looney left. I would be more worried about the Dems. not wanting Obama to campaign for them than this Jerry Springer stuff.

Shouldn't this article be posted under "Entertainment" rather than "Politics"?

I feel sorry for the kids in Wasilla – seems like the teens there don't have much else to do but practice having babies with each other.

Perhaps Planned Parenthood should open an office there to provide information about birth control and how to practice safer sex.

Why do these people feel compelled to speak with People Magazine about every dysfunctional move in their freakish lives?

This is a great example of why abortion should still be legal. This baby that these two kids had is now stuck in the middle of all this garbage. How is that fair for the baby? Imagine this craziness with people of a lower economic status and you now have what happens in the projects on a daily basis. Yet another kid brought up by kids to busy playing games with one another, and some day that baby is going to grow up with all the knowledge and emotional luggage that was bestowed upon him by these two brats. Yet another damage case. Great.

Seriously? It is bad enough that we are subject to her mother, who does not hold any political office, constantly spouting off. But now we are evidently to be subjected to the antics of her equally poorly educated and overwhelmingly non discriminate daughter. Edward R. Murrow is certainly spiing in his grave that this dreck passes as news. What has the world come to when when this is disiminated and passed off as credible news and authentic reporting??? Incredible!! I suppose next the CNN Ticker will be running a dfaily commentary about Lindsey whats – her – face in her court mandated rehab. God forbid they should report on the on going clean-up of the worst natural disaster in the nation's history, or the complete ineffectiveness of our president and congress. Heavens no, not when we can read about Bristol and Lindsey!!! Perhaps one day there will exist a credible, urbane news outlet that reports without bias and caters to those of who are educated and could care less about the antics of so called Hollywood starlets, other "celebrities" and has-been, un-popular governors and their over-sexed daughters.

I am sure Bristol and Levi, truly love each other. They probably want to come go forward get together and start a family. I wan't them to really succeed. May be there is some immaturity, but you cannot fault them for not trying.

Bristol will never be truly happy until she is able to break free of all the people in her life who do not her best interests at heart.

I hope she finds the strength to break up with all of them.
