Rossi campaign releases first TV ad

Washington Senate candidate Dino Rossi released his first TV ad on Tuesday.
Washington Senate candidate Dino Rossi released his first TV ad on Tuesday.

(CNN) – Republican Senate candidate Dino Rossi is out Tuesday with his first TV commercial in Washington – an intimate, positive ad that seeks to take advantage of the state's unique non-partisan primary system.

"I worked my way through college waxing floors at the Space Needle. That's why I can't stand what's going on in the U.S. Senate," Rossi says in the 30-second spot. "They're wasting money. On programs that aren't creating jobs or helping the economy. And running up debt that's threatening our future. That goes against everything I believe."

The ad doesn't mention the Republican Party or the name of Rossi's biggest obstacle to election, incumbent Democratic Sen. Patty Murray.

The 30-second spot is hitting airwaves statewide just as Murray released a new ad tying Rossi to former President George W. Bush and slamming him for his connections with Wall Street bankers.

"Dino Rossi first refused to take a position on Wall Street reform, then he had a fundraiser on Wall Street and another in Washington with corporate lobbyists," the ad's narrator says. "Next thing you know, Dino sides with his big money friends and calls for the repeal of financial reforms. Dino Rossi – the best friend Wall Street and big banks can buy."

Rossi's campaign says the two ads highlight the difference between the candidates.

"The contrast between Dino Rossi and Patty Murray could not be more clear: on the day Dino launches a positive ad to talk about issues like out of control spending which are important to Washington voters, Patty Murray goes on the attack with a false ad which makes no mention of her 18 year record of growing government, raising taxes, and pushing job-killing legislation," Rossi campaign spokeswoman Jennifer Morris told CNN.

Murray's once clear path to a fourth term has grown increasingly competitive since Rossi announced his candidacy in late May. According to The Elway Poll, in a non-partisan survey a survey conducted June 9-13, Murray led Rossi by a 47-40 point margin in a hypothetical general election match-up. The poll's margin of error is plus/minus 5 points.

Washington's primary will be held on August 17. They are the only non-partisan primaries in the nation; in each race, all candidates are pooled together regardless of party affiliation, and the top two vote-getters advance to the general election.

Mr. Rossi will not do anything to help the worker.. He will join other Republicans and vote against un-employment Insurance.. extension for desparate un-employed people in the USA... and vote to Repeal the new health Insurance Law.. and privatize Medicare and social Security.....So Washington state get the vote out to deny Mr. Rossi his agenda.. and vote against helping his Wall Street friends..

This is so typical of dems.Patty Murry taking about her opponent instead of talking about what she has done for the people she represents.

I work in the NURSING HOME while going to college and still owe thousands of dollars on my student loan. As a Seattle voter, right now we don't need REPUBLICANS to run WA STATE. REPUBLICANS don't want to work with the DEMOCRATS. Republicans should set aside their differences and think about their fellow AMERICAN CITIZENS. DINO WILL NOT GET MY VOTE.

  6. Can't we all just get along?

What does his waxing floors at the Space Needle have anything to do with what's going on in the US Senate?

That makes no sense. Did anyone edit that speech before it aired?

No matter what liberals say, times were better when President Bush left office than they are now. Also "can't we all get along", he is showing he worked for a living unlike probably you. He knows the value of a dollar and it is evident the demorat congress does not know how to control their spending/wasting of the tax payers dollar.

These republicans are trying to run a Scott Brown type of campaign. The bad thing is, the strategy doesn't work for everyone.

Dino, once you lose this election, will you consider "three strikes and your out" and not subject Washingtonians to ever having to vote against you ever again?

Washingtonians be aware of this corporate driven capitalist. He will cheat and steal from Average Americans to back his corporate masters. Patty Murray is the only choice for a true voice of the middle class. Take this Rossi CLOWN down or he will help the GOP take our great Counrty down.

He looks as dumb as Bobby Jindall did in his rebuttal to President Obama. The pious look does not appear well on the face of a hateful Republican. Why did he not mention his party affiliation? He knows that folks from Washington are a bit more advanced in the head than the low life crud Rossi's kind usually appeals to.

How much you want to bet that Dino's job waxing floors at the Space Needle was paid for by government money? Dig deep on any of these Republicans and you will find a shameless hypocrite. What's even more likely is that the entire story is a fabrication. I'll wager he went to a private school and never came close to pulling his own weight. These guys are so predictable: comfortable upbrining, stumbling into money, brag about their "hard work," and complain about "the government."

At last American voters realized how good this new health care bill is.
Well in new poll 50% vote that it is good, and I can't wait for Sept. when 26 year old will be covered on their parents insurance.

Republican, if they run to repeal this bill they will be in sorry state.

If this is what you have to show for Patty Murray's 18 years, it's another example why career politicians have to go! Keep electing the same people, you get the same results!
