Obama starts mentioning Bush by name

President Obama has twice mentioned former President Bush in speeches this week.
President Obama has twice mentioned former President Bush in speeches this week.

(CNN) – President Obama, moving into campaign mode ahead of the midterm elections, has added new, sharper language to his stump speech – twice this week invoking the name of his predecessor.

Obama frequently criticizes Republican policies on the economy – that is certainly nothing new. But the latest wrinkle in Obama's rhetoric is that until now, he has avoided referring to former President Bush by name. That changed this week.

Thursday marked the second time in a week that Obama has mentioned Bush. During a fundraiser in Chicago for Democratic Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias, Obama said Republicans are "betting on amnesia" as trying to make the economy an issue in fall races around the country.

"They haven't come out with a single solitary idea that is different from policies that held sway for eight years before Democrats took over, not a single policy difference that's discernible from George W. Bush. Not one," he told the crowd at the Palmer House Hilton on Chicago.

Before about 400 donors, Obama said, "they're betting that you just forgot about the eight years that they were in charge of Washington. They're betting that you didn't notice that the recession started under their watch and the deficit started under their watch".

The comments were similar to remarks the President delivered at a party fundraiser in Atlanta Monday. In that speech he also referred to GOP efforts to "extend Bush tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires."

Obama attended 3 fundraising events in Chicago Thursday, including two for the Democratic National Committee. He goes back on the road Monday for fundraising events in Texas.

This is bull. Obama doesn't want their ideas thats the real problem. They had tons on healthcare and Obama just ignored them. Obama is a good one for passing the buck. Well the buck stops at him right now.

Good – it's true the Republicans conveniently try to have amnesia and pretend that their own President was in charge over the greatest increase in federal spending in U.S. History and brought the nation to the verge of another Great Depression.

Also the GOP pretends that Bush was an anomaly, when in fact his policies of tax breaks for the wealthiest 2% of Americans at the expense of a balanced budget and middle-class has ALWAYS been the Republican doctrine of trickle-down economics.

Be direct Mr. President, use he whose name we dared not mention (spit three times!).

It took you 1 1/2 years of reaching out to these indolent, irresponsible dolts to realize that they are NOT interested in reparing the damage that BUSH THE SHRUB, OR CHUMMY THE DUMMY caused. Now , at last, you are finding yourself wasting less time with THEM and more time doing what you promised us you'd do.

Keep on delivering for your country Mr. President. Call him out. Call them all out. We've got your back!!! Believe that!

Cry some more Obummer the fact is your policies have prolonged the recession and your liberal friends are the ones who did the serious deregulation under the Clinton administration that caused the economic collapse! Who is Obama to criticize Bush? Really how can he when he has adopted all of Bush's policies and flip flopped on the ones he opposed before his election? Bush and Obama are one and the same corporatist neocons who do not have our best interests at heart. Wake up America the real alternative for 2012, the only real choice for real change is Ron Paul!

May be if he would spend less time campaigning and more time listening to the American people he could get something accomplished. They're betting that you didn't notice that the recession started under their watch and the deficit started under their watch".------------Obama fails to mention that it was Clinton who repealed the Glass-Steagall Act that allowed financial institutions to begin actions that led to the financial meldown and it was also Clinton and the Dems who wanted everyone to own a house whether they could afford one or not, which led to ther housing bubble and finally destroyed the housing market.

what I really find funny is that when polled over 50% still blame the Bush administration and the Republicans for the economy and the mess that we are in and those poll numbers haven't moved much at all (unless you count the FoxNews polls that claim NONE of this is Bush's fault) and also a lower number trust the Republicans to fix the economy a number like 27% YET if President Obama mentions this he's called a whiner and a crybaby. Personally I wish he would NOT do this because when it comes to election times Americans seem to have short memories of how we got into this mess as compared who may be in power now not getting us of of it quick enough. I liked it better when he said that HE would take the fault for the economy good or bad.

Since obama can't run on his failing socialist agenda, he predictably resorts to mud slinging and smear tactics. The economy continues dither along, much like obama's weakness of character. And since the government isn't hiring any more census workers, the jobs situation is circlling the toilet bowl also. On a positive note, at least obama took time away from his vacations and numerous golf outings to stump for his floundering liberal/progressive party mates . Obama is just another empty suit.... another smooth talker who bring little to the table .

Absolutely hilarious.....Obama thinks that people that vote for Republicans have amnesia. He must be hoping that people that vote for Democrats have short term memory loss. After wasting almost a trillion dollars in a failed stimulus bill, he has the nerve to criticize Bush's economic policies. Dude, nice try!

NO other president in the history of the US has been handed such an immense mess, the closest would be FDR. Bush came in with a surplus and managed to throw it all away, deregulated hell allowing his friends to do whatever they wanted (banks, WallStreet, big oil), got war hungry instead of just finishing off Afghanistan decided to LIE (yes it has been more than proven) to go after Saddam who was such a threat that he was found like a bum inside a hole alone. By taking Saddam out, who was an enemy of Iran, gave the Iranians a lot of power, broke the stability in Pakistan and allowed our enemies in Afghanistan to regroup. Even worst most of the GOP still in power were the ones that allowed all of this to happen and are putting on the table the same ideas. If the GOP takes the presidency again and we go under we would deserve it completely, because people think with their behind instead of with their brain.

One of the reasons why Obama keeps blaming Bush for everything that is going on is because he knows that his Marxist ideology doesn't resonate with most Americans. He hopes that when he mentions Bush people will forget that his ratings have tanked to the lowest Bush levels in one sixth the time. His continual reliance on blaming Bush, racial politics and the relentless pursuit of his Marxist ideology is alienating those people that elected him in the first place. He will be extremely lucky to be able to keep the congress in the mid-term and keep the oval office in 2012.

All in all the Baby Boomer politicians, especially the Presidents they have produced, have failed America and her citizens to a horrible degree. It is going to take the younger generations that have the motivation and desire to seek an education (because they do not to competively educate the children...dumb population ensures democrats get votes), and are tired of seeing the greatest country in the world and history decline in an accelerating spiral of decadence (aka Michelle Obama's vacation) and corruption and incompetence and racial politics and fear based politics and government over involvement in the economy. God Help the younger generation of this country because our elders sure as heck have not.

In other words, Obama doesn't have anything positive that he can campaign on, so he is trying to "look back" yet again, and try to blame Bush for ALL his failures as President. Everything he has rammed down the American people's throat are so unpopular by the majority of Americans, he can't campaign on those, (health care, GM takeover). Granted there is a minority of small insignificant voices that are still yelling in anger as loud as they can against Bush on this website, but he is not running again and you need to start looking at what the current President is doing to this country. That is the problem for Obama. Polls show the majorities don't like it.

Good for President Obama. He is probably tired of bearing all the blame for the economy that he inherited from President Bush. The Republicans lost because their policies killed our economy and millions of people lost their jobs. The Republicans voted to bailout corporate American and our corporations prospered,, but did not increase jobs or benefits. The Republicans need to quit their whining and start doing the job to improve the economy of their states that the Republican majority caused. If all elected officials realized that their state and Congress is a mix of both Republicans and Democrats they might be voting for what is best for their states and then they wouldn't have to campaign so hard to get re-elected.

I think Obama needs to go back to primary schools, the muslim one overseas didn't teach him to add correctly. Bush only held congressional power for 6 years of his presidency. The last 2 were controlled by the spending spree democrats. Even as a registered democrat I can read and count. I had always thought the democrats were for the people, but the older I get and the harder I work, the more I get screwed overby their policies of take my money and give it to those that are too lazy to do manual labor. So all that being said, the latest recession started under the watchful eyes of the democrts, not Bush and co.

Also no doubt that campaigning is much, much easier that LEADING a country.

And of course, the Republicans have an idea, not necessarily a good one, about every 8 years. The rest of the time they start wars, fail to fund them, hardly ever fight in them (Bushy – Dicky- Rummy all dodged the draft), and then leave office without proposing an exit strategy.

When you accept the job as the US president you inherit all that comes with it–the good and the bad. This president continues to live in the past and apparently will the entire time he is in office. It is time to stop playing the blame game and get on with life. We are sick and tired of hearing Bush this and Bush that; It will backfire on the democrats in the long run. I was a registered democrat but after 30 years have switched parties...am not happy with the direction the dems are taking this country. They have forgotten they WORK for the people not the other way around. It is time to read bills before they are passed, stop gov growth and spending, and get people real jobs that last longer than 6 months.

SO GLAD that he's reminding people of the dire consequences of 8 years of Bush-Cheney autocratic rule and their disdain for the American public. People seem to have a very short memory ... we were teetering on the economic edge in late 2008 and on the verge of a full-blown depression. The country's immediate economic outlook isn't rosy, but long-term we're on the right track. Eight years of Republican tax breaks for the wealthy and peddling lies to go to war in Iraq and what do we have to show for it? ... nearly 5,000 American lives lost and countless Iraq civilian lives lost, and where are THOSE JOBS that tax breaks were supposed to create in the private sector??

I think it's time President Obama seeks President Clinton for administrative training. Obama needs to compare himself to President Clinton, realize Clinton came to the White House with lots of administrative experience as a Governor, had been in business and he didn't require on the job training as does Obama, because honestly, Obama needs administrative training.
Maybe then he'll stop this juvenile behavior of trashing, insulting President Bush because he fears he can't win on his own merit, on his job performance.

What do you expect? He knows the Democrats are in trouble, so he starting to grab into his bag of dirty tricks. He can't take the high road like Bush has done. George W. Bush should be commended for his restraint and good nature, something that could not be found in Clinton and can now not be found in Obama. Whatever. It doesn't matter. The Democrats are going to lose both the House and Senate in September, and then the White House in 2012. Obama knows it.

Obama is without class and is the farthest thing from Presidential a President of the US has ever been. The man-child still employs methods used on the playground to communicate disagreements. I firmly believe at this point, he looks in the mirror and sees his hair going grey, and aims to be a one term president which explains the terrible, anti-american, anti-business, anti-constitutional agenda he pushes.

Obama needs to be careful in his attacks on Republicans. He surrounded himself with many who were a part of both Bush's (and Clinton's) administrations, whose policies in part caused many of the domestic and overseas problems facing the U.S. Much of the supposed recovery efforts from the recession have been borne on the backs of seniors and others who rely upon income from savings, with interest rates now virtually at zero. Meanwhile, the bailouts have primarily benefited those who caused the recession in the first place. He has expanded Bush's war in Afghanistan, and his announced plans for combat troop withdrawal from Bush-invaded Iraq reportedly are a cover for a reported 50,000 troops who will remain as "advisers." There is nearly as much spin emanating from the Obama White House as there was from the Bush/Cheney administration.

Our whiner in chief is getting desperate. He is falling so fast in the polls, it's not enough anymore to drop subtle hints. Now he has to call out the former president by name. He reminds me of a spoiled, petulant child. He refuses to accept blame for an administration which has bungled everything they have touched and lost touch with the American people. Americans are sick and tired of Obama always blaming others for his failures. I just wonder how many people would have voted for him two years ago knowing what a disaster he has been since then.

The Democratic Party's desperation about the upcoming mid-term elections becomes more apparent every day. Yesterday, a story that candidates are avoiding Obama's help. Today, Obama directly naming George Bush for all of the problems that Obama didn't even know existed until he took office and "inherited" all of Bush's issues. This of course happens to every incoming president, Obama has always felt and whined that it was unfair that it had happened to him. Obama, Pelosi and Reid all know that no matter how much they try to convince the public otherwise, they are going to take a beating for a 10% + unemployment rate and record budget deficits not to mention increasingly unpopular "achievements" such as Obamacare. I would expect that Rahm and his propaganda team will continue to lash out at every possible target until the election so the only question will be who the Dems will pick as the next target; so far, Palin, Bush, ???

I can't believe that no one ever calls this guy out for his comments about the Repubs being in charge for 8 years. If I recall, the Dems took over Congress in 2006 after campaigning against a war (which we're still involved in.) THEN the housing market went in the tank b/c they wanted banks to loan money to everyone regardless of if they had the money to pay it back. THEN the rest of the economy went to crap on the Dems watch, not the Repubs. I would like to see one instance of a Democrat warning of financial problems before they took office. I wish our president could get his own facts straight, but if he won't someone with a louder voice than mine needs to set him straight.

REALLY? REALLY? Is this all that is left for Obama and the Democrats to run on? What Obama failed to mention is that after he took over along with the Democrats, the country got worst. The economy got worst, the deficit got SUBSTANTIALLY larger, unemployment is at a record high, and nothing is pointing to things getting better anytime soon. I'm no fan of Bush, but the state of our economy after he took over is his to own. If it had gotten better since he took over, I'm certain that he'll take the credit, but since it didn't he's blaming Bush. When will he man up and take responsibility for his and Congress' (controlled by Democrats) failed policies? He said that Republicans are "betting on amnesia"; but in reality, he's betting on voters to "have amnesia" and forget that he's been President for the last two years along with control of the Congress and the Senate. NO ONE is buying his junk anymore except for the far left.

It has been over 18 months since the egotistical, self-loving individual we call President has been in office and he has shown a lot of arrogance and self-righteousness; all that are demeaning to the office that he holds. In those 18+ months his predecessor has not said one bad thing about President Obama or his policies. Why is he now using President Bush's name - 'cause he is desperate and it is what he was taught in the ghetto and rotten politics of Chicago. His comments reflect a cruel, vicious man who is severely discrediting the office of POTUS. "they're betting that you just forgot about the eight years that they were in charge of Washington..."

Uh, "they" weren't "in charge of Washington" in at least two significant ways. First, it was only a clean-sweep for the Republicans–presidency and both houses of Congress–for only half of those eight years, and second, George Bush is gone and the self-righteous, bible-thumping, neo-cons he represented got the message in November 2008 that self-righteous bible-thumping doesn't play well in the US any more.

For the Dems to run against Bush two years after he left office isn't going to work, especially since, as of the last few days, a slight majority of American voters now think the economy is the fault of Obama and the Dems rather than that of Bush and the neo-cons.

Obama is extremely pathetic and extremely weak. He has absolutely no leadership skills and is in way over his head. Bush again? Really? After almost 2 years? Well I guess when you have to ram your agenda down the throats of the American people against their will and than to top it off the policies are proven failures Obozo needs someone to blame. Perhaps he should look in a mirror to find the true culprit. The anti American Democrap Party is going to lose congress by a huge margin come November. As far as our one and done so-called President, he will be lucky to finish his one term without either being impeached first or just physically removed by the brewing revolution. Count On It!

  147. We Remember

The GOP keeps whining that President Obama is "blaming Bush." Well, if the shoe fits - wear it! President Obama does need to remind Americans (many of whom seem to have short memories) who want a recession that was many years in the making fixed in only 1 1/2 years that he inherited this mess and is doing his best to fix it, but that it will take time. Why should our President have to take the blame for this economy when all of these conditions (and worse) were already in place the day he was sworn into office. Our economy has stabilized and made some small progress. That is good for the small amount of time that has passed. On top of that, President Obama's policies saved U.S. automakers (and the many, many jobs that go with them) who are now making a profit and paying the government back. Bush DID make this mess and the GOP is doing NOTHING to fix it (in fact they are trying to stop our President from being able to help our country) and those are the facts. Some people need reminding. Bush is being blamed because that is exactly where the blame falls as much as the GOP would like us to forget it.

You gutless coward Obama, you take credit for good things that you had NOTHING to do with (See Iraq and Ford etc, etc), but never take charge of anything and just give lip service , you are a fraud and a gutless, vile coward.

Case in point, YOU are against gay marriage (ON RECORD), and were OK with the California bill that some judge shot down but yet Axelfraud goes on TV and says you had issues with it and were against it, cue up the tape and BOOM your own words with Jake Tapper and YOU HAD NO PROBLEM WITH IT.

You get caught over and over and over LYING, but the LSM let's you get away with it, but if someone points out the truth they are racists.

White independents got you elected, but now they are against YOUR POLICIES and now they are all of a sudden racist???

Doesn't President Obama realize by now that he should not campaign for a second term? He will never win with his failures to restore the economy and his amazing national debt increase.
Any campaigning he does on behalf of other Democrats only hurts their chances of election.
The President should relax and enjoy the rest of his one-term presidency with golf vacations and free rides in his 747.

When you can not sell the merits of your (Obama) programs you talk about the old competition (Bush) instead. It looks like the Dems are getting desperate and hoping old tricks will work again. They have had control of the House for two sessions and the WH and Senate for 2 years, does anyone see any accomplishments other than a irresponsible spending spree, depressed economy, rising un-employment, falling house prices, increased taxes (both announced and hidden), total disregard of the publics wishes on almost every issue, and the take-over of some private industry and financial firms, suing a US state for trying to protect its citizens and property and on and on. President Bush is looking better every day and that is a scary thought.

Democrats have been in charge of congress and US spending for 4 years now. The only reaction he will get by mentioning Bush is alot of eye rolls. Mr. Obama and Mr. Bush are two sides of the same coin. Both campaigned as being a, "Uniter not a divider." And, both managed to further alienate this country even more than his predecessor. Both are power hungry, disingenuous, and could care less about America. Instead, both only serve to enrich themselves and their handlers. Mr. Obama has failed to fulfill even his most basic campaign promises. He deserves the nation's contempt in exchange for his disdain of Americans.

Anyone who voted for either one should have their voting privileges revoked. Anyone who voted for both of them should have their citizenship revoked and then deported.

The republicans are living in the 1980's. .... The repubs believe that tax cuts to the wealthy will TRICKLE down in some way to the middle class in the form of jobs.........
Really, really, if the wealthy get their tax cuts again, they will put that money along with their other money in offshore UBS bank accounts (tax evasion) or into business abroad to use the cheapest global labor available,,,,,,, they call it a global economy....
the republicans know this.....they are traitors to America for their fraudulent behavior to American workers........
what the republicans need to do to gain a shred of respect again is to help figure out how to BRING BACK manufacturing jobs that they have given away by having the gall to give subsidies to American companies for providing jobs offshore........and Bush should be brought up -- he was part of it
