McMahon dismisses Dem attacks on wrestling past

(CNN) – Democrats may be salivating at the opportunity to take on Linda McMahon - the former World Wrestling Entertainment executive who captured Connecticut's GOP Senate nomination Tuesday night – but the ex-wrestling CEO tells CNN she welcomes a fight about her colorful past.

"As my opponents talked more and more about the WWE and issues that may have been relative to programming content ...instead of focusing on the issues, I talked about issues and continued to gain momentum," McMahon told CNN Wednesday morning.

"If my opponents want to talk about soap opera content instead of focusing on issues, I will win again in November," she added.

Democrats have already taken aim at the WWE's controversial programming over the last two decades and revelations of rampant steroid use during the 1990s. But McMahon said it's instead important to focus on the safety checks her multi-million dollar business now has in place.

"The men and women that perform at WWE really are the primary assets of the WWE. And we want to protect them at all costs," she said. "Doctors that travel with them…trainers that travel with them. We have a very comprehensive drug testing program. Let's look at where WWE is today."

McMahon now faces Attorney Gen. Richard Blumenthal, the Democrat with wide name recognition who faced allegations earlier this year of embellishing his military service by saying he had served in Vietnam when he had not. Recent polls suggest Blumenthal is holding a double-digit lead over McMahon.

You tell them... Democrats have very little to run on so this year they will be taking the role of going on the attack personally.

Just over 80 days and the 6 year reign of the Democrats will be over!!

This is NOT Bush's economy things were going along fine until the Democrats took over, the President can not get anything passed without Congress and the Senate. Both have been controlled by the Dems. for 6 years. This President has had nearly 2 years... time to man up.

You have to remember that liberals are eliitists and depise the pleasure that WWF might bring the pleasure and joy that something like WWF might bring to people. The would prefer that ordinary people engage in Bush or Palin bashing, join unions for the Viagara they give out, or edify Hussein Obozo. They do not understand normal people and right now they have their president who lied and ran to the center to get elected and their corrupt, slimy farce of a Congress that can't do anything but steal money from hard working Americans. They have lost the trust and respect of hard working Americans so they are now engaged in class warfare to demean and degrade us and call us racists. It is the old liberal playbook of 40 years ago. No hope, no change, no summer of prosperity. 4 years of lies and deceit.

I don't see how a colorful past would keep her out of government. Has not stopped anyone else. If they did not have a colorful past when they went it usually changed. The Potomac flue it is called.

Dumb to attack WWE just like it was dumb to attack Arnold's movies.

The GOP runs celebs (Reagan, Arnold, Clint Eastwood, Fred Thompson) and their sheep vote for them. It doesn't matter what they did in their entertainment lives...only the issue matter.

Bad move Dems. Beat Linda on the fact that she embraces failed GOP policy, not her old job.

She is just a CEO and doesn't know how the Senate really works. I think that it would take her longer to figure out what to do and how to react. She strikes me as an ideologue much like Palin. Connecticut would be better off with a person who has some idea how the political world works. She is attempting to do what others have done - buy an election.

How does Linda McMahon plan to win in a state which has an overwhelmingly Democratic advantage in Registered Voters and is behind by Double Digits in the polls?

It's great that she won the Republican Primary, but now she has to think beyond static party slogans and appeal to voters outside of her party base.

I don't think Connecticut voters can take seriously a woman who allows herself to be denigrated on national television as a form of "entertainment".

Unfortunately for Ms. McMahon, Connecticut is not Minnesota (or California).

good luck Linda – your past is your past and your experience with the wwf indicates that you have ignored serious problems within the organization drugs – steroids and certainly the dissing of women. besides you are a republican and we all know what they are.

So she admits that wrestling is fake?!? I can't believe it!!

I don't hold her wrestling past against her. The real problem is that she's a Republican...

I'm a democrat and I'll tell you something..... whatever side your on, who care's about what a person did for a living years ago? It doesn't matter! What matters is the job they are doing now and what they stand for.

What is she talking about? EVERY election these days is more about "soap opera content" than the issues, probably because the candidates spread so many lies regarding the issues that people don't know what's really real, so they just vote according to the most prevalent gossip.

As this wrestler baby would like to hold Blumenthal to his past, and as Republicans use some of the slimiest strategies to get elected, Blumenthal is perfectly right in to tie this babe to her time with the WWF. He is also perfectly right in telling everybody that SHE IS TRYING TO BUY THE SENATE SEAT.

Linda McMahon is a strong, capable and driven woman who has worked her way to the top of sports entertainment. Wasn't one of our most popular presidents a former actor, not to mention the current governor of California (who, coincidentally, banked on his body in his early career)? Steroids? Come on...look at Major League Baseball. Ms. McMahon is right. The outcome of the race will depend on who manages to win votes based on addressing the issues.

But the republicans turn everything into a soap opera. Shouldn't you be worrying about them instead?

McMahon has his embelling issue, but that pales alongside of the McMahon's forcing their wrestlers to consume huge quantities of steroids or they would fire them. She's kidding herself if the moralality of what she did isn't questioned, let alone the legality and deats it caused. Wasn't it just 2 years ago that steroid crazed wrestler murdered his wife and child? That's what it took to scare the Hell out of the McMahons to change their evil ways, a murder / suicide. Good luck lady!

That Just Shows How Incoherent To Reality Connecticut Republican Senate Nominee Linda McMahon Truly Is. The Mistake Some Democrats Are Making Is To Attack Ms. McMahon And The WWE's Cartoon Antics. Vince And Linda McMahon Have Had The Audacity To Ignore And Dismiss The Same Body Of Congress When It Was Investigating Their Business Practices, And Now The Same Linda McMahon Thinks She Deserves (Or Is Attempting To Buy) A Seat In Congress. No Responsible News Organizations Seem To Be Mentioning Any Of This (Especially HypocriCNN!), But Would Rather Try To Celebrate In Some Juvenile (Bordering Criminal) Behavior. Nor Have They Been Questioned On The WWE's Attempts To Shield Information On Two Major Deaths On Their Watch. Owen Hart's Malfunctioned Eqipment, And Chris Benoit's Being Kept On Company Roster After Numerous "Wellness Program" Drug Infractions. All I Can Ask Is Where Is The Journalism?
