Legislator resigns after 'dead Palin' comment

State Rep. Timothy Horrigan made the remarks Wednesday night in a thread discussing the Alaska plane crash that killed former Sen. Ted Stevens.

"Well a dead Palin wd be even more dangerous than a live one...she is all about her myth & if she was dead she cldn't commit any more gaffes," Horrigan wrote.

Horrigan was commenting on another post by a Democrat running for the state house, party activist Keith David Halloran, who found himself in hot water Wednesday after writing about the crash: "Just wish Sarah and Levy [sic] were on board."

After the controversy quickly gained steam Thursday, Horrigan sent a letter to the Speaker of the New Hampshire House offering his resignation.

"I apologize for thoughtless remarks I made which have brought this House into disrepute," Horrigan wrote. "I enjoyed my time in the House and I thank you personally for your support over the years."

Ryan Williams, a spokesman for the New Hampshire Republican Party, said Democrats in his state have "a widespread fixation" with Palin's death.

"Instead of discussing their failed economic policies, New Hampshire Democrats are now spending their time openly discussing Governor Sarah Palin's death," Williams said in a statement. "Rep. Horrigan's comments are sick, twisted and disgusting, and they must be immediately denounced by Governor John Lynch and Rep. Carol Shea-Porter.

I want Caribou Barbie to live a long life - full of gaffes, misstatements, lack of ethics, and other hilarious antics from this dimwit. That will cement her legacy for what she is - a total fool.

People need to stop trashing people and start listening to what they are saying. (Left and the Right) It is so easy to smear, but the truth is that someone like Palin and someone like Obama both have good points. The real fixes to the hard problems is to use ideas on both sides.

Palin the democrat slayer....She doesn't have to do anything..they do it to theselves. It is amazing how freaked out the Dems ad the left are over Palin. Where theres smoke IS there fire....maybe the Dems think she is correct on the issues and that is why they are afraid of her and continue to try to marginalize her to their own detriment. Rock on Palin...Rock

No freedom of speech for either party if they are legislators...

Ted did do a lot of good for Alaska, despite his conviction in the end of his career...may he RIP and condolences to his family.

No apologies here, would gladly trade Palin for Stevens in a New York minute...

Dear fed-up Democratic pols: please leave the death threats, veiled and otherwise, to the Rethuglicans. We hold you to a higher standard of conduct.

I am surprised he had the decency to resign. I think Democrats are worse than Republicans because they claim to judge others less harshly than Republicans do, supposedly- and then proceed to prove otherwise.
Horrigan's remarks have only strengthened the Tea Party, because you can be SURE his comments will be quoted this fall in campaign ads. Voters are already in an ugly mood as it is, so Democrats had better listen.

We are told the extreme is on the right side and tea party people are dangerous, and then this guy is a typical representative of the extreme left ideologues that are useless in anything but hate hate hate!

When will the republican's "immediately" denounce all the insults that Palin has thrown undeservedly at President Obama?

When will she be censured for allowing death chants toward President Obama when she was campaigning her lunacy all over the country?

When will she be told to shut up since all she does is spread hate and lies about everything to do with the duly elected government?

well shoot. I guess some thoughts should be kept private. But, I can imagine it's hard to keep quiet when we all feel the same way about Palin. She and Britney Spears have alot in common. Both are train wrecks in the making. NO WAIT, I take that back because Britney has straightened up her act!!!

Republicans have the same fixation.....with the President's birthplace.

(Had you going didn't I? In more ways than one I'm sure!).

He only said what most of us were already thinking. I never liked McCain but now I hate him for what he did. He bought this ignorant, "nobody" of a person (and I do mean nobody) into the spotlight and left her – for the rest of us to deal with. This is just how his presidency would have been. Throw it out there and let them have at it! I am so sick of this woman and her trailer trash family I could scream. I don't even listen or click on her tickers anymore. For God's sake why doesn't she GO AWAY! She is the modern day Jezebel of our era. Created to destroy all things good. Mr. Horrigan has just simply had enough and so have I.

This is very, very bad, dangerous to wish someone their death. Hopefully, it is just talk and not a crime they're both willing to commit. They could influence, encourage some nutcase to commit murder. I hope someone encourages this politician to seek mental help. Hopefully, Keith David Halloran will drop out and seek mental help also.
