Rangel continues to fight allegations of wrongdoing

Rangel continues to fight allegations of wrongdoing.
Rangel continues to fight allegations of wrongdoing.

(CNN) – New York Democrat Charlie Rangel, under fire for alleged financial wrongdoing and harming the credibility of Congress, defiantly declared Thursday that nothing "will stop me from clearing my name from these vile and vicious charges."

Among other things, Rangel has been accused of using his influence to solicit donations for a college policy center bearing his name from corporate heads and others with business before the powerful House Ways and Means Committee.

There should be a ZERO tolerance for any of these criminals.
It should not matter whether they are republicans, democrats, or independents.
They are all criminals. They all take money. They all make money in office and out.
They should be out of office immediately or suspended during the investigation.
    ZERO TOLERANCE FOR ALL.

Many of the Democrats on this thread choose to complain and blame Republicans...

The Fact is this is a Democratic Congress...and YOUR own president waste case has called for Rangel to step down.

The Funny fact is that convicted or not....the People of his congressional district would vote him right back in. They loved themselves some Marion Barry. They dont mind crooks in congress.

Ethics are for pedestrians and other common citizens. He has earned the right to that wonderful influence ( oh, that and the fact that he gets to determine how the rest of us pay taxes ). Why can a man not enjoy the influence he earned to endow great praise for himself with his name on a college policy center in perpetuity? We're talkin' marble floors, baby!

I firmly believe that the US Congress is the last place in our country that a member would complain about unfairness.
If some people doubt about fairness of the Congress in treatment of its member, I think the Congress should clear this matter first before going forward with Rangel situation.
Allegations of unfairness in the US Congress is far a more serious issue than allegations against Mr. Rangel.

Ms Pelosi, in fact everyone in Congress, should take it upon themselves to out Mr. Rangel. Now.

Rangel is clearly showing his sense of entitlement, of special privilege, and sense of all-for-me-an attitude that explains many of his past "successes" as well as failures as a person.

To the Democratic Party: This is not Obama's doing. Couple Rangle/Waters' behaviors with the spineless, over-the-top shakiness of Sen Reid, and it is no wonder the Party has come to be portrayed as ineffectual at best, and corrupt by too many. Things are no better on the Republican side, but WE said we would drain the swamp. What are we waiting for???

There's a bigger fish to fry than Rangel and it's not a Democrat. A lot of politicians, namely Republicans, will be exposed. Stay tuned.

How could 4 rent controlled apartments in NYC be an oversight. Residential use, not campaign hdqtrs, Charlie!! The arrogance behind the smile is astonishing. "But they all do it" is the usual excuse why the swamp never gets drained. In NJ, indictment was the only terms limits. Shame on us, the voters. We get what we vote for-over and over.

I have voted democrat my entire life but it is because of Rangel and Maxine Waters who are corrupt, liars, thieves, and rasicts, that I will never vote democrat again. To think that my tax dollars were going to buy his villa in the Dominican Republic makes me sick, or to think that my tax dollars went to put money in Maxine Waters pockets because she was going to lose it on bad investments makes me more sick.

    Gary's comment is:

Charlie Rangel has been in public service his whole life, and at his
age and time and place in government he should be afforded the
respect of being thought innocent until proven other wise. We the
people expect the Republican Party to beat him to death before he has
his day in court, that is a given, however the Dems. are acting like some of the lower forms of life that "Eat Their Young" All these things
do is make us in Mainstreem America hate government even more.

I personally believe that he is too old to be a congressman and as I have said before, they need to put term limits on those positions. I will wait and see what the investigation shows before I pass judgment.

By the way – where are the hearings and trials for Ensign, Vitter, et al??

Why are they taking so long? Waiting for the presidential election year to hit the republicans?

It's all politics – the republicans are dragging their feet to make Rangel and Waters go until just before mid-terms - guess it's fair for the democrats to drag their feet on the republicans until year after next.

He's no different from Pelosi, Boxer, Reid, Obama, Waters, Frank, Dodd,.... He cares more for his job and party than he does for the people of the USA.
