Who showed at Rangel's birthday?

New York (CNN) – Embattled lawmaker Charlie Rangel, who is embroiled in an ethics investigation, celebrated his 80th birthday Wednesday with a lavish party at New York's Plaza Hotel.

"This sure ain't no funeral, is it?" Rangel boasted, as a parade of high-profile politicians turned up for the gala.

Among the attendees were New York City Mayor Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New York Gov. David Paterson, and singers Harry Belafonte and Dionne Warwick.

Guests were treated to a performance by Warwick, who appropriately sang, "That's What Friends Are For."

Charlie--you and Maxine definitely need to stay in there and keep on fighting and running your mouths.

The Republicans could not have wished/asked for anything better--then to have the Rangel and Waters issues hit the air right before the November elections.

And, the longer that they keep fighting and running their mouths-–the better it gets for Republicans.

    Go Charlie!!! Go Maxine!!!!

Pretty amazing isn't it. The depths of liberal corruption know no boundaries. The gravity of their disease is so bad they cannot comprehend it. This is the spirit of our corrupt, inept, union toady president and the liberals on display in all of its glorious greed for all to see. How much money was given by the unions at this event. Wouldn't that be interesting to know. But we will have to find out somewhere else, the state run media will not tell us.

Mr. Rangel, you celebrated with a fine turnout at your "birthday" party, for all the public to see. You are recognized as having led a stellar career as a leader of men, and as one who has earned the praise and admiration of his constituents.

Take this opportunity to go out on a high note. Please don't be a stickler and damage the Party. Your name is safe, your legacy is safe. Please leave things up to the next generation (or even skip a generation if you feel that next one down has not appreciated the efforts made).

Way to go Charlie!!, if only the common citizen could have those luxuries all pay for by the federal goverment and so many years of corruption. No wonder even a high school drop out with ties to the Palins wants to go into politics!!. Hope he will succed and become one more in the long list of corrupted politicians.

This is a complete embarrassment for Democrats. Yet another sounds reason why term limits should be established. We will only see more corruption without it. Rangel is a prime example of the change the Democrat party wants to shove down our throats. It took over two years after evidence was presented just to get a hearing. I'm sure glad Pelosi and her liberal nuts didn't drag their feet on this one.

It is indeed a sad day in American politics when the ethics bar is lowered so low for US Congressman, that in essence says that as slong as you are not a convicted felon serving hard time, you are fit to serve in the United States Congress.

I, and millions more of my fellow citizens thought we held our elected officials to a higher standard.

The Democratic party from the House, to the senate, to the Oval Office has become the party of race politics, greed, and arrogance. It does not represent me, and I hope that is true for millions of other Americans, whether they be Democrats, Republicans, or Independents. It is indeed time for CHANGE

I wonder if all those "high-profile politicians" will be sharing Rangel's jail cell. I expect they're all as crooked as he is–they just haven't been caught yet.

    Rangel is 80??!!

Ted Stevens died a few days ago and he was 80! Just out of the Senate by a few years so he was in his late seventies and stiil in the Senate. And both Rangel and Stevens became very wealthy during their years many (generations) in public service.

Do you think they might be just a little out of touch from the general public of 18-60 years old and their concerns and needs?
Maybe we should have a manditory retirement age for politicians of say 65. Why do these old people think they should be dictating and creating laws for our country for so long?
Volunteering would be great to stay busy and give back to the community, but steering our country at such an age – in 1980 they were 50 years old.
Why don't we hear more about this type of term limits?

Sources tell CNN that other dignataries in attendance included Bernie Madoff, Rod Blagoiovich, and everyone's favorite crack-head-turned-politician-turned-crack-head Marion Berry.

The highlight of the evening was a posthumous tribute to Leona Helmsley, presided over by none other than the birthday boy himself. Helmsley, the deceased mega-millionaire hotel mogul, is known for famously having been quoted as saying, "taxes are for the little people".

Was it safe for a NY Dem to go to Rangel's party? LOL!!!!

Democrats could attend Bin Ladens terrorist training camp and the stupid brainwashed hate filled libs who dominate that state would still vote lib.

There is a reason that anywhere you go, everyone immediately knows who the New Yorker is, loud, obnoxious, selfish, mean, and sleezy, in other words, Democrat.

I wonder how many will attend his going away to prison party? Oh that's right, he is an elitist, he has the get out of jail free card, unless another one of his brothers in crime can politically gain from his prosecution that is. What a chump, if this guy and every other of our elected elitists is clean then answer me how you can become a multi-millionaire while working in a government job?

What a joke we have become.
