Napolitano: GOP congressman's claim is 'so off the mark'

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Friday that the idea of 'terror babies' infiltrating the United States is 'off the mark.'

Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Friday that the idea of 'terror babies' infiltrating the United States is 'off the mark.'

Washington (CNN) - Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said Friday that Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert "is so off the mark" in his assertion that terrorists are plotting to conceive babies in the United States so they can grow up to kill Americans.

The Republican congressman first made the claim on June 24, while discussing on the House floor what he felt were serious gaps in our border enforcement.

"They [terrorists] would have young women who became pregnant, would get them into the United States to have a baby-they wouldn't even have to pay anything for the baby-and then they would return back where they could be raised and coddled as future terrorists," Gohmert said. "And then one day, 20, 30 years down the road, they could be sent in to help destroy our way of life."

Napolitano, in a Friday interview on CNN's The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, said that she has seen no evidence of such a plot.

"This president has put, really, unprecedented amounts of resources at this border," Napolitano said.

"We've been moving agents, material, aircraft and other things to the border. Even more now is coming and being made permanent by the bill he [Obama] just signed," she added.

Napolitano also said that by statistical measurements, the United States border with Mexico is secure.

'The border is safe and secure in the sense of every statistic that needs to go up is going up and every statistic that needs to go down is going down," the homeland security secretary said. "The number of illegal immigrants crossing the border is way down; the number of drug seizures, gun seizures, money seizures is way up."

Prior to her appointment to homeland security secretary, Napolitano served as the governor of Arizona as well as the state's attorney general and the U.S. attorney for the state.

Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert may not be so off the mark. If what he is saying is true, then we need to get more Med students in Medical School to go on to become OB-GYN and let the Border Patrol hire them to check each female caught crossing the border to see if she is pregnant with a new born terrorist.

I couldn't resist the urge to Goggle Rep. Louie Gohmert to see if he was kin to "Half Brain" Sarah Palin. He isn't but you couldn't tell by the liked stupidity they both spew.

This stuff is contrived at the major Right-Wing-Think-Tanks like Heratige and A.E.Inst. A Dutch politician seems to have recently gained some ground for him and his party with the same type scare tactic.

For the R.W.T.Tank's this type misinformation is like the old Pasta sticking on the wall trick for al-dente, except X number of people will believe it no matter what ,like the Birthers. Secondly, it ties up The Democratic Admistration by having to deal with this and respond like Napolitano has had to. It's also cheap to keep producing this junk because the "Liberal Media" always helps spread the lies since they consider this "news".

Gee! You'd think by reading the headlines, that the GOP (grand oil party), was incabable of telling outright lies to win political office. Only the simple minded believes all things said by politicians.

I really never had a clue that we had so many stupid, paranoid people in this country. Stupid because they will not do any real homework and paranoid because they believe any crackpot who crawls out of the woodwork and spouts out some far fetched theory. The more fear tactics the Republicans use, the more you idiots get crazed. For God's sake, use your heads and stop listening to these talk show jerks. They are becomming rich on all of you who believe they know what they are talking about. They lie to you and you think they are an all knowing God.

The fear mongering and hateful rhetoric never ends with these people. They are forever conjuring up stuff to fear and hate in their own minds. It is sad that they live in constant fear and distrust. If they want to find the person causing most of their anguish, all they need to do is look in the mirror. It is a natural law, that you harvest what you plant. For each action, there is an equal ad opposite reaction.

Well frankly this law will be very good for the American Indians. Because basically those who want to repeal the 14 Amendment will have no excuse to give up their citizenship as well after all everyone who opposed this law has been a relative and descendant of an anchor baby. as well including the majority of the so called American who approved of repealing this law.

  15. 8 Years of having a drunken driver at the wheel put America in the ditch, why would working Americans return the keys to the crowd drinking at the same bar?

Never mind Janet he is from Texas, they nuture these type of freaks and their conspiracies.

The Dallas Morning News gave front page, above the fold, coverage to the great "school lesson plan" conspiracy when President Obama gave his pep talk to school kids. The Arlington school district allowed parents to keep their kids at home so they could avoid the dreaded lesson plan, that would turn them all into little socialist soldiers.

And the DMN represents what Texas calls an "impartial" purveyor of the news.

Some of these folks with this way of thinking need to find themselves a nice chunk of empty land and start a new country....or heck maybe we just give them Texas. They do no understand the fabric of America, we are not a country of fear mongers, we respect freedom of religion, we support equality...these are things that these right wingnuts do not embrace they are so afraid and want us to be afraid. Let them do so in a new United States of Fear, leave us and our constitution alone. Patriots, what a joke!

fear and hate is what the republican party is based on and the tea baggers are just the wingnuts who advance it. Look at the dummies who wrote in like rickster. They are so afraid of everything. The repos are dong a good job making paranoid people more afraid. I can't understand since they have so much faith in God why they are worried. Surley he will protect them from all these terriorist babby's

Such is a republican way of thinking, and there is no sense in arguing with them. They just don't know, nor do they want to know. All this immigration stuff is just a repeat of what goes on in this country time and time again. Go back to the 1920s and read about how awful immigration is for the US. Immigration made this country, and yes maybe too many republican small business owners need to bring them here illegally to use them and spit them out, but at least the present administration is working very hard to stop it. Enough said.

I wish the right would have the courage to just come out with their racism instead of fabricating these absurd scenarios. Just say it straight: you hate Mexicnas, you despise any religion that isn't Protestant, you just can't stand the fact that the president is black, and you would prefer to shoot a gay to letting him marry. Be proud of what you are! Tell the world you could care less if the various African tribes slaughter each other, or that we are killing a lot on civilians in the Middle East.

Stand up and tell it true! Get out there right now and shout from your windows: "I'm racist as hell, and I'm not going to lie about it any more!"

Janet Napolitano clearly not qualified for the job as SHLS. Her only experience is as a gov and judge...none in the security or intel business. She did a lousy job as our gov and she is doing lousy as the SHLS. Another person clearly not qualified to be in her position.

Should anything from the GOP surprise anyone by now. Having Americans heard enough of these wacky and delusional assertions and claims, from republicans, to conclude these folks truly need help. What they say often are comparable to what old, grandpas and mas , who are slowly loosing their abilities to reason wisely, or who do not feel the need to make sense, reason. So many of us had real, old folks around us, growing up, who recklessly said whatever came to mind regardless of the impact. And most times, we stayed away from such grumpy, family members. That's the GOP, in a nutshell. Unfortunately, some Americans are brainwashed to believe these folks. The one reason many women are coming to the West, not just America, to have babies, is the high rate of mortality of child bearing women, due to poor healthcare in these countries.

I add that there is an old fairy tale about a baby who immediately grew to a couple hundred pounds, developed six-inch fangs, ate the horses, the stable hands, the King, the Queen, and all the inhabitants of the country. It's a fairy tale!! Unfortunately, there are too many folks you can't convince of that. They're the sort who think you have to kill Little Red Riding Hood to save the wolf (see Schindler's List)

Leave it to today's Liberals to ridicule a thought because it "hasn't happened yet".

Sort of like Bush ignored the intellegence reports that terrorists may use planes as weapons?

Leave it to the rable rousers on talk radio, right and left, to create a bunch of mindless followers spewing talking points, ignorance and hatred with no coherent reason to back their positions.
