(CNN) - Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston have reached an agreement over the custody of their son, the Associated Press reported Friday.
The custody agreement comes just weeks after the couple called off their re-engagement.
Under the agreement, Johnston gets visitation rights two days a week, while Palin gets primary physical custody of their son Tripp. The couple will share legal custody, Johnston's lawyer told the Associated Press.
The custody agreement was first reported by gossip website TMZ.com.
The couple's teenage relationship fell under an intense public spotlight after Sen. John McCain picked Bristol's mother Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate in August 2008. The couple broke off their first engagement about two months after their son's birth in December 2008.
Earlier this month, Bristol called off the couple's short-term re-engagement, citing Johnston's involvement in a music video that she described as mocking the Palin family.
"It's over. I broke up with him," Bristol told People Magazine. Sarah Palin told the magazine her daughter has learned a valuable lesson: "to trust but verify."
In July, Bristol and Johnston became re-engaged without first informing the former Alaska governor.
At the time, the Palin family issued a statement that stopped short of a full-throated endorsement.

Is anyone else disgusted over the way this young man used Bristol Palin and her mother for a media career? Now that he has his tv show, he's dumping her – really!
I hold the girl got the Judge to say her son will not appear on a reality show because that is all that scumbag boy wants.
He knows no reality show without the baby.
i don't think this custody agreement is fair and just. It takes two to make the baby and Levi has been paying his child support and trying to make even more money. He should get 50/50 – that means 1/2 of 365 days a year. I'm tired of hearing how mom is a better caretaker – both man and woman know how to take care of their young. Everyone is coming down on Levi for being a "fame whore" – well so is Bristol when SHE wants to be. Besides, going on TV and reality shows only helps to support the baby- and isn't that what everyone thinks should be done. While Levi still has the goods he should take advantage of every 'fame" opportunity he gets. Bristol is probably upset because as looks go Levi is a solid 9, while she is a 6, LOL.
This is NOT political news and CNN should know better. Plus, CNN is obsessed with the Palin family. As long as you keep giving them coverage, they won't go away. Give us a break and stop spotlighting them.
who care the palin or levi Johnston is not new,CNN if they are new than put everyone in American that breakup with kid in the new. The Palin couldn't have any TV show or Levi Johnston, and any TV network that does is dump.I'm had dogs that are smarter.
Good Luck to both of them.....attractive young people who will continue to make their mark....interesting that Levi claims to be a conservative democrat........sounds like the makings of Rudy Giuliani's presidential bid, when none of his children would vote/support him in his quest. Sounds like some of the younger generation is not going to put up with this selfish BS that the right wing is trying to shove down our throats................Good Luck to both of you.
Who cares!!! C'mon CNN I am sure there is other news that is worthy of print. This guy is a nobdy and should be treated as such.
And why is this news? I'm convinced that people will do anything to become famous, even drag their poor children into the spotlight airing their dirty laundry.
CNN, why do you report everything that the Palins report via tweet. As a news outlet, WHERE IS THE IMPORTANT NEWS AND NOT JUST THE CELEBRITY GOSSIP. You are quickly becoming so irrelevant.
who cares? let these people live their lives.
Would putting this child in the joint custody of either of these young people who's families are dis-functional be such a great idea?
No wedding cake?
Palins = EPIC FAIL !
Honestly, folks. Stories about these two pinheads does not belong in the politics feed. Come on, CNN. Shape up!
STOP reporting this information. It is NOT newsworthy. This family is a disgrace and a joke.STOP IT !!!!!!!
I AM DONE WITH CNN
These two high school drop outs, under achievers and overpaid publicity seekers are flashes in the pan. They will quickly disappear from the notoriety of the public's curiosity in record time.
They are extremely poor examples of 'family values, teen role models, education, parenting' and exemplify dysfunctional households and hogging the limelight at all costs.
Their so called 'reuniting' was a media stunt and had no substantive value.
But yes, Bristol and mom can quote the good book, god and the high moral standards that everyone should live by-except them. HYPOCRITE$
Why does CNN continue to consider them news? They are not public figures. It's time to leave them alone.
I'm confused!! Why does CNN think that anyone could possibly care who gets what in the Palin/Johnston family. Sarah Palin is famous because she was a vice-presidential candidate – her kids are only "famous" by association. Give us news about something important, that is, if you still know how to do that! I stopped reading the National Enquirer long ago when they trashed Princess Diana and found that I became much more intelligent learning about world affairs by watching CNN. I guess I was wrong!
I don't see one thing wrong with reporting this story here today. Of course it's news since the left wing media has taken it upon itself to put the Palin family on the front page time and time again. This boy isn't interested in his child...he just wants fame and money and will step over anyone he can to get it including his own son.
Who cares about anyone of this tribe.
Trailer trash marathon please end and take the clueless princess with you.
Wouderful product of family values! More grease to your elbows,Gov.
Another breaking, urgent news story from CNN
This is way better than any rehearsed mid-afternoon soap opera. This is real life with real people.
Other than care, who really gives a crap?
CNN's fascination with the Palin's continues, even though most of America has long been sick of hearing about Caribou Barbie and the Wasilla-hillbellys. CNN, do yourself and our country a favor, cover real political news that effects real people.
I loathe the Palins and everything they stand for.....but I really think these kids are due a little privacy....is this really "news"? Being 20 years old while raising a child with an ex is hard enough, let alone with the media reporting every detail.
