Washington (CNN) - Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, the come-from-behind GOP winner of the Iowa Caucuses in 2008, is the early choice of Hawkeye State Republicans again, a new poll shows.
The survey was conducted for the website TheIowaRepublican.com may be viewed as simply a matter of name recognition as much as it is a measure of true political support given the caucuses are eighteen months away and no Republican has yet to declare an intention to run for president.
Sill, the survey shows Huckabee has retained a significant number of supporters in the Hawkeye State, leading the field with 22 percent of support. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the runner-up in 2008, is second with 18 percent.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who visited the Iowa State Fair last week after the poll was conducted and has made clear he is strongly considering a run for president, is in third place at 14 percent.
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who has long believed to be a natural fit for Iowa Republicans, is the choice of 11 percent of voters.
Texas Rep. Ron Paul, who finished fifth in Iowa in 2008, again finds himself in fifth place with 5 percent of support.
Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, another visitor at the state fair last week and almost-certain presidential candidate, is at 1 percent along with South Dakota Sen. John Thune.
Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum, who also headed to Des Moines and the state fair this week, received less than 1 percent of support in the poll.
The poll surveyed 399 likely Republican caucus goers across Iowa and has a sampling error of plus or minus 5 percent. It was conducted July 25-28.
Can't we just flush the toilet that is the Palin family from the public forum and move on to something that matters ?
Congratulations Tim Paw... you tied for SIXTH place!!
Now will you come home and deal with MN state issues?????
Ok, Timmy, you are at 1%, no way you'll be the nominee so get back to Minnesota and do your job or better yet, have some integrity and quit.
Sarah Palin is a reflection of the majority of Americans (Nincompoops). If anyone disputes that, checkout the sales of her book "Going Rogue" compare that with the popularity of conservative talk show lunatics.
Go Canada Go!!!!
It doesn't matter the Party of Crazy has no viable frontrunner again My President so take you poll and shove it up your Daisy's
Is that a Political party or the Fox News lineup?
Iowa, any Democrat is better than these GOP thugs who messed like a crazy idiot and thugs....jut vote for Dem...
Sarah Palin gave up any potential future political office when she wrote her book. Because of all the whoppers she told in there she could not possibly even win a primary against other Republicans; she's handed them too much ammunition, and on a silver tray.
Iowa's one of the best educated states. It'll be more telling to see how Palin does among the dimmer bulbs in the red states .
Huckabee doesn't mention his track record in Arkansas regarding illegal's. He helped our state become a sanctuary state by providing free medical for Mexican Nationals. Ask him about The Blue&You Foundation he helped set up jointly with the Univ. of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Arkansas. Also the state building in Little Rock he donated to the Mexican Consulate that enables the Mexican Nationals to better navigate the social services available to them in Arkansas. How quietly he did all this without media attention. Now CNN, look into Huckabee's track record in Arkansas.
Does anyone remember what the polls said this far ahead of the last election? No? Ask President Clinton–Hillary I mean, the one who beat Giuliani in the general election.
President Obama wins another landslide victory thanks to teabagger/GOBP delusions.
