According to the new survey, 56 percent of the public says that the economy will be extremely important to their vote for Congress this year, making that the only issue that a majority said would be vital to their vote.
Two other issues related to the economy - unemployment and the federal deficit - tied for second on the list with 48 percent.
Terrorism also ranked that high, although fewer than four in ten said that the wars in Iraq or Afghanistan were extremely important to them.
Finishing last on the list were abortion and gay marriage, which only one in five say will be extremely important to their vote.
The poll surveyed 1,009 Americans on August 6-10 and carries a sampling error of plus or minus 4.5 percent.
I need a job too, but not as the 21st Century cotton picker!! a real job for real men yes, the job which the bourgeoisies have offshored to the developing countries while selling us sub-standard so called education
The ecomony started going down hill in 2008, yes, while under bush. This all stems from DUMocRATS taking control of Congress in NOV 2006 elections.
BUSH should have vetoed more, but he threw DUMocRATS such as Pelosi, BFrank, CDodd etc too many bones. The DUMocRATS started us down the socialist welfare agenda, with corresponding TAX and SPEND policies.
Remember, the DUMocRATS drove the housing industry into the ground with ridiculous regulations so that every joe blow (who couldn't affortd it) could have a home. Way to go Barney Frank
In Clinton's immortal words: 'It's the Economy, (you) stupid!'.
No matter what is the foreign crisis du jour, the social demmand of the time and the newest gossip on all 'entertainment' programs on TV, people will always think (at least in a good part) about how their pockets are faring in the day they have to vote.
well, bad news for the democrats then.
It's bedtime for Bozo and his tax-and-spend Liberal comrades!
Dominican mama 4 Obama August 16th, 2010 12:48 pm ET
"I want to work"!! "I want to work"! But.... not at Mcdonalds.... not under the hot Arizona sun picking produce....not at the hotels making up beds and preparing food at some ungodly morning hour....not as aporter/valet, doesn't pay enough......
What I want is my job back. You know, the one that my company shipped overseas to make bigger profits with Bush's blessings. I want THAT job back, and I'd rather sit home and whine, blog, and collect unemployment than settle for anything less.
On second thought: I wanna blame Obama for this too.
No you should not blame obama for jobs being shipped over seas nor should you blame bush as presidents don't right laws. Congress rights laws. lets look at that. In 2006 before dems took control of both houses unemployment was at 4.6% by the time the 08 elections came around that rate was 7.5%. but your right dems had nothing to do with it. they were some how powerless to stop the economic trouble even with control of congress. but bush had the power to destroy it even without any ability to legislate.
Go back to 5th grade and learn how American government works.
You talking about "Economy", well, listen, this nation has been messed up by your "Reagan" to 189 percent....And "Bush" another 300 percent. Do you expect it to turn around over night....It is gradually getting better. GOP thugs, and Republican SOBs made this mess. Obama does not have a magic wand....well, he at least passed ESCHIP, Health Care, and Financial reform....he is going to pass Energy and Climate reform....eversince, Energy reform, Dick Cheney, oil stealer, got heart attack....SOB, cruel idiot...you know...
What the shiny objects and fear mongering from the Republican's aren't working?!
Peple are actually worried about working and not about who's building what near where? I hope these same people who are worried about the economy remember who put is here and don't vote to take us back.
Well DUH! Like, we didn't already know THAT!
Enough w the Republican vs Democrat stuff. Obviously, neither party is willing to make the tough, unpopular, decisions needed. What we need, and what we haven't had in a long time, is a LEADER. Are there any out there???
Perhaps, instead of blaming Bush, people like Domincan mama 4 Obama@ might take a look at the unions that made it so unprofitable to manufacture in this country as part of the problem. And now the Obozo administration, in its insanity, mismanagement and ineptness, is taxing more businesses that will move out of the country to get out of his taxes that benefit only the lazy unions and drug addicts.
Its all Bush's fault. Its Bush fault that the trillions of wasted stimulus money has not worked. Its Bush's fault that Obama's job creation package has not turned around the employment numbers. Its Bush' fault that Obama and Democrats have yet to assure American's that the economy is improving under their power. Its all Bush's fault. Because Bush's name swings poll numbers rather than asking liberal or conservative views on the economy.
Hey, finally some good news on the economy I that I found here linked in my Favorites: Here it is:
Dateline: New York City 16 August 0843EDT With unemployment nearing 4.8% and housing prices remaining strong the most economists expect a robust holiday buying season. Workers also took home a little extra in their paychecks with real income increasing 3.2% for the first half of the year. The Federal Reserve Banks for all of the major geographical regions reported stable to solid growth throughout the second quarter. The initial GDP growth estimate of 3.9% is likely to be revised upwards when the final data is tabulated. From his vacation today the President said that “the hard work of the American people has carried us through a difficult time for our country”.
OH wait....WHOOPS – MY BAD! This was left over from August 13, 2005. I’ve got to be more careful in checking the dates on the articles I save….
liberals and thier use less BS. nothing has improved since the libs took office, im still waiting for my hope and change. all we get is more and more lies from obama, where are the jobs he promised, where is our better economy. the fools he has fooled got him in office
Dominican mama 4 Obama: Hmm. Yes. I hadn't considered all of that. I'm with you. I'm going to go ahead and change my vote to Republican.
People are going to be surprised at the magnitude of change that will be happening in November. It is not about Democrats and Republicans. It is about a idealogy. Those that choose not to commit and align will be trampled. It is about taking back control of our country from the minority and giving it back to the majority. It is the one power we as a people living in a Democracy have that they cannot take from us. People are very angry.
Dominican mama 4 Obama: Blame yourself, you just want something for nothing. Go work at fast foods. Some time you have to go back to move forward. The Blame is you...........look in the mirror Sheesh!
And for those you are pointing the finger at the President you sound like a fool. In the beginning BUSH
you want to work , good..but why waste time standing in the sun with nice clothes and shades ?? if you want to work , please go and work..
If the folks in this pic and people in America want a job, then you better vote out what's in office. Clean out the useless Democrats first then we'll work on cleaning out the useless Republicans.
i crack up when people use the word "socialism".. do you even know what socialism means ? even if socialism stinks , what good has capitalism done ? let me count a few
a) Million dollar bonus to CEO's , when their companies went bankrupt and employees keep suffering
b) Unemployment rate close to 10 percent , majority of the american people are suffering because of the greed of 2 percent of the population
c) vast majority of the people have no healthcare , no jobs , no education ..haa coming to education what has capitalism done to stop the high drop out rates from schools ? has capitalism helped in anyway to enable more and more Americans go to college ? that remains a dream
Do you want more ?
Right on the money
If businesses would quit outsourcing American jobs and the wealthy would start paying taxes, our economy will improve.
Thank you Republicans for giving tax credits to companies who outsourced our jobs to foreign nations and for saying that it is good for the economy to steal American jobs and sending them overseas.
The current crop of Republican Congresspeople and Senators who were in office during the Bush years have NO RIGHT to critizie the Obama administration for the economic crisis this country is facing. They wholeheartedly swalled the Kool-aid Bush and Cheney gave them and took this country to the financial brink of destruction we face now. Tax cuts for the most wealthy, two wars, massive deregulation of industries, ENRON, Hurricane Katrina, greed run rampant through their PAC's. The list goes on and on. Where was the Republican fiscal responsibility during those 8 awful years? Where were their concerns for the middle class citizens? Don't try to be the "oh so concerned for your welfare" candidate now! We know who is responsible for the economic state of this country...those of you who sold your souls to big oil and big business. The American voters are not going to suffer your presence in Congress much longer.
Nice use of Union labor in that photo.
Let me tell you liberal socialist democrats something that you don’t get and will probably never get. The top 5% of the wealthy are those who generate JOBS and if you lean on this percentage they will cut jobs because you will stifle growth. 70% of the population pays the bulk of the taxes because of the shear number of tax payers vs. those who are rich. Cutting taxes to the middle class and the rich make sense because it would stimulate spending and growth. Making those in Washington fiscally responsible is required, if we are to get back on track with our budget deficit. In other words the Democrats must stop entitlements and socialist programs to those who can get off their duffs and work. Let’s have some accountability for people taking tax payer money rather than a blank check. If they are not working then let’s use the tax dollars for retraining so they can get back to work. Welfare is a short term answer to a long term problem if not retrained.
As much as I hate illegal immigration by those sucking off our resources and not putting taxes back into the system, we need illegals to do the work that lazy people wont do. I say if one is an illegal but an honest hard working illegal then lets get on a green card fast track to a working visa and possible citizenship after five years. This way the illegal is paying taxes into the system.
