(CNN) - With the knowledge that Fox News' parent company recently cut a $1 million check to the Republican Governors Association, the leader of the Democratic Governors Association is calling on the cable news network to run a "formal disclaimer" when it covers gubernatorial races.
"I request that you add a formal disclaimer to your news coverage any time any of your programs cover governors or gubernatorial races between now and Election Day," DGA executive director Nathan Daschle wrote in the letter to Roger Ailes. "[…]If you do not add a disclaimer, I request that you and your staff members on the 'fair and balanced' side of the network demand that the contribution be returned."
A CNN review of financial contributions made by media corporations showed that the parent companies of CNN, ABC, CBS and NBC have all made at least six-figure contributions to political parties and candidates. But none of them have given one organization so much money relative to its equivalent association on the other side of the aisle.
Read the full letter after the jump:
"They are the RGA's single largest corporate donor," Daschle said in a statement to CNN. "No donor wants to see Democratic Governors defeated more than Fox News. That's not right. If they want to give up the facade, it's fine – just put on a disclaimer so everyone knows."

Fox News' response indicates a disclaimer will not likely be forthcoming.
"Nathan's stunt has run its course," Fox News spokesman Brian Lewis said in a statement to Washington Post media columnist and CNN contributor Howard Kurtz. "His 15 minutes are up. Time to leave the stage."
Maybe, Oprah should do the same thing. She raves about Obama like he is the second coming. When, in fact, he is the worst president of out time.
Fox News should be shut down immediately by our benevolent, wise president acting in concert with the democratically controlled Congress. It is obvious that they do not believe that this is the "summer of prosperity" as our beloved leader declared and where do they get off reporting the truth about things rather than what the White House press office tells them to report. I don't know why they can't be more like Chris Matthews who gets a tingle in his thigh whenever he hears the supreme leader talk, or Keith Oblermann who makes up miserable things to say about the Republicans or even CNN's Rick Sanchez who has never actually apologized for attributing all of those false quotes to Rush Limbaugh, he just said "oops, sorry."
Dear Leader has said that this constitution thing only will work when he deems it necessary, the rest of the time he and the honorable Nancy Pelosi and the honorable Harry Reid can make it as they go along, and Fox has the unmitigated call to challenge that.
Well excuse me, I am going back to smoke some more dope and watch Oprah while I wait for instructions on who to vote for and my next check from my friend Barrack
anyone that has to say they are "fair and balanced" probably isn't...it's kind of like saying "I'm not racist because...". Actions should prove everything, words are meaningless.
Wow !! looks like lots of people got their nerve touched just by the mention of Fox news. Amazing. No news organization is perfect Fox is no exception. And in today's political environment almost all the news outlets have aligned themselves with one party or the other, mostly it's with the Democratic party. All of those who are crying foul about Fox news – can you all say that MSNBC, CBS, ABC, CNN et al are very fair and balanced? No. Just look at the 2008 election coverage. Democratic party received 60% favorable coverage from these lame(main) stream media. Nobody complained then? I used to watch CNN religiously and ABC as well. But in the past few years most of their presentation methods have tilted left. I consider myself an Independent. But these news so called lame stream media don't leave me with enough options. No Fox news is not the best, fair and balanced. At least it's much better compared to MSNBC, ABC, CBS etc. And to those who cry about Fox being opinionated, why don't you watch few opinion shows for a week. And as you claim that they are all lie it should be easier for you to nail them. Other lame stream media are wagging their tongue for a false news story. So it'll help you in nailing Fox. Wouldn't it? In the same vein why aren't the other lame stream media able to discredit Fox if they claim Fox is all lie, not a news org, just an opinion show blah blah blah? And i'm not going to talk about ratings.
Fox is to News the way the WWE is to sports. Fake and mainly watched by Dummies.........often the same ones.
The actual news part of Fox isn't bad coverage but their commentators read directly from the Benito Mussolini guide to corporatism....I don't watch the nutjobs......I don't find fascism entertaining anymore......
So Sherry, but I've watched Fox more than once and I have found them to be on the same side as Time Magazine, New York Times, Newsweek, Huffington Post, they keep the news to detail, no changes, no exaggerations, if anything sometimes they keep it short.
For those of you who think comparing CNN, MSNBC, or other news outlets a legit comparision, tell me someting: Do these news outlets call themselves "FAIR & BALANCED"?...... I hear crickets from you people... I'm not suprised
so GE the parent company of NBC gave huge amounts of money to the democrats. I dont hear anyone calling for them to air a disclaimer anytime the cover political issues.
Does this guy have his head in the sand? If Fox News needs a disclaimer, then al the other Democratic sypathizer news agencies need to do the same thing.
Interesting. Fox News should run a disclaimer but no media outlet has ever had to run a disclaimer when it endorses a candidate. Sounds like sour grapes for the party that didnt get the donation. The party of no is better than the party of hate.
Why where there no complaints when Newscorp gave more money to Democrats than republicans?
Hypocrites? I think so...

Why not post the contribution amounts that each media group has made to each respective organization so that we can see how Fox stacks up against the rest?
Politics aside...it sounds like a conflict of interest for a "news" organization.....It's like when the NFL started the NFL network....they support the NFL and have an interest in the success of the NFL and proudly represent the NFL brand...no conflict there, it's what they do....But now Fox News has officially tied is success to the Republican party, it now no longer be branded as anything more than a GOP mouthpiece...It should have an elephant on it's logo....
For all you Rebub's screaming that the other news organization give to the Dem's, you might want to check your facts. Most of the mainstream media did indeed contribute to the Dem's but also to the GOP. Although it appears the Dem's got more, the difference between the two was very slim...
The funny thing about PBS is that they are the only truly "fair and balanced" news source out ther (no offense CNN). They only appear to be liberal because as my pal Stephen Colbert says so well "The truth has a liberal bias".
Fox news lying, and the other commercial networks acting as a echo chamber (not beacuse they are dishonest but because they are too cheap to do their own research) balances against the truth I guess.
Obama: Worst president ever.
Why don't the other, real news organizations stand up to Faux News? Why are they silent when Palin constantly labels them "lame-stream" news? Come on Brian Williams, Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric, Anderson Cooper, and your bosses, show some back bone!!
Fox So-Called News is an embarrassment to the world of serious journalism. Yes, the evening programs on MSNBC lean left, but they neither call themselves "fair and balanced" nor do they have the word "news" in their title.
Fox Snooze has only one purpose - to make Democrats look bad. Facts and logic don't matter to them. They are a one-sided propaganda machine, and basically behave like school yard bullies.
(Chris Wallace is the only one there who can walk with some semblance of dignity.)
Fox News runs a disclaimer before every broadcast. It is their logo. Anyone who does the least bit of fact-checking knows that Fox is just slightly better than TMZ for accuracy and balanced reporting. Wait. I take that back. TMZ is better.
In reading through these comments, I can pick out the Fox News viewers within the first few words. Generally, there is name calling, badly-spelled words, and sentence composition that shows they didn't make it very far past grade school. Fox appeals to people like this because of its simplistic, dumbed-down message.
Because of this, there's no point in putting a disclaimer in. Those of us with living brains wouldn't read it, because we already know what Fox is all about. Those of us who find Fox the source of everything we know WON'T read it, mainly because we can't.
Nothing like having a non-American (Murdoch is an Australian) own a major news outlet heavily contributing to particular party. Talk about having outside influences. Simply confirms that our government is truly "of the rich and corporations, by the rich and corporations and for the rich and corporations".
