DGA calls for Fox News to run disclaimer

The Democratic Governors Association has written a letter to Fox News chairman Roger Ailes.
The Democratic Governors Association has written a letter to Fox News chairman Roger Ailes.

(CNN) - With the knowledge that Fox News' parent company recently cut a $1 million check to the Republican Governors Association, the leader of the Democratic Governors Association is calling on the cable news network to run a "formal disclaimer" when it covers gubernatorial races.

"I request that you add a formal disclaimer to your news coverage any time any of your programs cover governors or gubernatorial races between now and Election Day," DGA executive director Nathan Daschle wrote in the letter to Roger Ailes. "[…]If you do not add a disclaimer, I request that you and your staff members on the 'fair and balanced' side of the network demand that the contribution be returned."

A CNN review of financial contributions made by media corporations showed that the parent companies of CNN, ABC, CBS and NBC have all made at least six-figure contributions to political parties and candidates. But none of them have given one organization so much money relative to its equivalent association on the other side of the aisle.

Read the full letter after the jump:

"They are the RGA's single largest corporate donor," Daschle said in a statement to CNN. "No donor wants to see Democratic Governors defeated more than Fox News. That's not right. If they want to give up the facade, it's fine – just put on a disclaimer so everyone knows."

Fox News' response indicates a disclaimer will not likely be forthcoming.

"Nathan's stunt has run its course," Fox News spokesman Brian Lewis said in a statement to Washington Post media columnist and CNN contributor Howard Kurtz. "His 15 minutes are up. Time to leave the stage."

"relative to its equivalent association on the other side of the aisle"

So you are saying that CNN, ABC, NBC and CBS did not donate as large an amount to the party they align with.... the Democrats

You are basically ADMITTING that CNN, ABC, NBC,CBS are in bed with the Democrats...

Fox will run the disclaimer when all the other networks run a disclaimer stating they are operatives for the DNC.

The lame brained media does not have as much money to give their liberal candidates even though they give what they can. The reason they cannot give more, is more and more people are finally seeing the one sided slant and ravings of the liberal media for what it is, which is junk reporting. From the chris matthews peeing down his leg to many others, they are in decline and cannot find it within themselves to place blame on themselves, because that is where the blame belongs.

Why is this surprising to anybody? Fox has sponsored Tea Party Events and Republican candidates. What other "News" Organization does that? They have paid whores on their payroll: ie. Palin, Hannity, Beck, O Reilly, Gingrich, etc. They constantly give air time to Republicans and the Far Right Lunatics. They are owned by an Australian and a Saudi Businessman. They are Hypocrits, paid Liars, distorters, and hate spewers. Rupert Murdock says on TV that they are fairr and balanced and should not represent any political party. He is an obvious LIAR or incompetent. They have never said one positive thing about Obama and the Democrats. Fox News like their wholey owned subsidiary, the Republican Party are nothing more than do nothing Monday morning quarterbacks. They criticize but have no plans of their own except to line the pockets of their Banking Buddies and the 1% who own 95% of the wealth or what I call Socialized Capitalism. That is why John Boehner can play golf twice a week because it only takes a few minutes to say NO.
They are an embarrassment to their country.

    This is a ridiculous request.

It implies that Fox News was, at one time, a legitimate source for news and not an entertainment outlet.

How dumb can the Dems be?

Haha, as so many have stated, fox is right leaning, we all know this. If this dem idiot wants fox to write a disclaimer, then he better write a letter to every other news organization with a similar disclaimer because they are all lib left leaning. Stop reaching dems, MSNBC is no better than fox, and they donated money too.

There is zero equivalency between the donations that other networks have given to candidates of both parties, and the massive disregard that FOX News has shown for the Equal Time rule. The fact is, FOX is the mouthpiece of the Republican Party and the Tea Party, which it has been actively supporting for the last 18 months. It is one thing to support the policies of a politician or candidate, be it out of self-interest or not, but it is quite another to spew out misinformation and propaganda that seeks to scare voters into supporting the candidates of one political party. MSNBC has never represented itself as a "news" organization and its commentators routinely announce disclaimers of their own political biases. FOX News does exactly the opposite.

Hahaha. This needs to be made a constant front and center argument. All corporations make donations to one side or the other...frequently to both sides...but a cool $1M to just one side? Nope. Find the example. And more to the point, $1M to just one side by a "news" corporation claiming to have the journalistic integrity to report in a "fair and balanced" manner? Patently Absurd. Claiming they're "fair and balanced" should be considered false advertising and I'm going to wet myself laughing if the DOJ picks up on it. Find me 12 objective people who wouldn't convict.

Furthermore, Murdoch is an Australian, not an American. So I ask, W T F does he care? (Hint: giant corporations love BJs from GOPer congresscritters). Why is he attempting to so pollute our national discourse and political processes with massive misinformation campaigns and demogoguery? (Hint: giant corporations love BJs from GOPer congresscritters). And someone tell me please...why are the GOPers/conservatives so trusting of a massive corporation that is owned by a FOREIGNER...so much so that it's halfway down their throats and throbbing? I mean, it's quite obviously because Murdoch provides a fantastic conservative echo chamber ringing with irrational ideological affirmations of what they want to hear about how they think the world should work (and empirical evidence and facts be d-mned), but seriously, does nobody else see the underlying hypocrisy? Murdoch is scum, plain and simple, and his purpose is singular: damage America.

Is this news? We all know that FOX News is NOT a credible news organization and more importantly they are a branch of the Republican party.

Can you tell me which other credible TV station Sarah Palin, Carl Rove, Tim Palenty, Orange Man, Boehner, Mitt Romney all flock/stick with? FOX. AND THESE REPUBLICAN ARE NEVER CHALLENGED WHEN THEY ARE HAVING SO-CALLED INTERVIEWS.

This is a really sad day in News!!!! What can we believe when we watch FOX?

And where are the disclaimers from CNN, ABC, CBS, and NBC? They're all propoganda outlets for the democrats.

Just call it as it is. Fox is the arm of the Republican party, always has been and always will be. Where is the regulation here? I thought journalism exists to keep an eye on government. With Fox it's keep an eye OUT for winning elections for the right wing. Shame.

Ahhhh...so Fox News then is finally admitting that they are nothing but a mouthpiece for the Republican Party.

I never really did think it was an authentic news organization.

    Good to have confirmation.

The Fake Noise Channel has no scruples or professionalism whatsoever. They won't add a disclaimer, they won't return any money. They are a propaganda tool of the Republicant Party. At least every other news channel tries to remain unbiased and objective, but Fake Noise is so slanted, they cannot hide their love for the conservative right-wing nutjobs, as they have so many of them actually working for the station and commenting on there, too. The only people who listen to Fake Noise are those who are too uneducated to understand any other point of view, or who simply don't want to hear any other point of view (even worse), because it might actually make them have to THINK and could prove them wrong!!!

Every one knows that Fox is a republican infomerical channel. I think the FCC should make they run THAT on the bottom of their screen. And they should have to pay taxes accordingly.

If Fox is required to add a disclaimer then CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC must also be required to add a disclaimer even if they only contributed $50.00 dollars. Equality for all.

That doesn't seem unreasonable. Media outlets that claim to be news sources should be balanced and show that they are going to be either equally fair or harsh to both sides. There should be none of this nice/favor one side kind of crap. Given most of the people on FOX, it is a surprise that it hasn't been nailed by other political organizations as being partisan.

The Republican-Tea Party, along with their media outlet, have had a slash and burn agenda, since January 2009. They have indeed done more to divide this country, than to unite it.

The word "FOX" or the name "Murdoch" is enough disclaimer for anyone with a basic understanding of Murdoch's politics and his degradation of journalism by selling entertainment as news.

What hypocrisy!!! The lamestream media would then have to run a disclaimer for every political comment on the GOP.

Thank God there is one news network that reports on the news that the lamestream doesn't cover.
