Palin goes 0-for-2 on primary night

Palin's endorsements have yet to produce victories in August so far.
Palin's endorsements have yet to produce victories in August so far.

(CNN) – It hasn't been the greatest of months for Sarah Palin when it comes to her political star power.

The two candidates Palin backed in Tuesday's primaries lost their bids, making the former Alaska governor 0-for-5 when it comes to endorsements this month.

In Washington State, Palin had backed Tea Party activist Clint Didier in his bid for the Senate over businessman Dino Rossi, the favorite of national Republicans.

In making her endorsement of Didier last May, Palin said the Tea Party favorite had "inspired" her, and hailed him as a "patriot running for U.S. Senate to serve his state & our country for all the right reasons!"

Palin went on to record a robocall for Didier, telling voters that "unlike establishment candidates who just talk about lower taxes, Clint has signed a pledge to do so."

But Rossi easily beat Diddier in Tuesday's primary, besting the former NFL player by more than 20 points.

Palin's candidate also lost out in the Wyoming gubernatorial primary on Tuesday. There, the former vice presidential nominee backed what she referred to as a "Mama Grizzly," State Auditor Rita Meyer.

"Voters know that Rita has a unique blend of steel magnolia and mama grizzly," Palin wrote on her Facebook page in July.

Meyer ultimately lost her bid to U.S. Attorney Matthew Mead by fewer than 1,000 votes, according to the Wyoming secretary of state.

Ultimately, Palin put little effort into either race beyond a few sentences expressing support on her Facebook and Twitter pages. Still, the endorsements made big news in the local races and were often touted by the campaigns.

But Palin's 0-2 showing follows a bigger disappointment last Tuesday, when her hand-picked gubernatorial candidate in Georgia, Karen Handel, lost to fellow Republican Nathan Deal in a close election.

Palin had put most of her efforts into that race, appearing with Handel at campaign rally just hours before the vote.

Palin-backed candidates Rep. Todd Tiahrt, who was vying for Senate in Kansas - and Tennessee congressional candidate CeCe Heil also lost their bids earlier this month.

Palin's next tests come Tuesday when Alaska, Arizona and Florida hold their primary votes. In Alaska, Palin has backed Joe Miller in his long shot bid to defeat Republican Senate incumbent Lisa Murkowski. In Arizona, Palin went with Sen. John McCain in his Senate primary bid against former Rep. J.D. Hayworth. And in Florida, Palin has picked Republican candidate Marco Rubio in that state's Senate race.

UPDATE: Two congressional candidates Palin endorsed in Washington did advance in Tuesday's primaries: John Koster in Washington's 2nd District and Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers in Washington's 5th District. Koster was the runner up in Washington's open primary to incumbent Democrat Rick Larsen, meaning the two will face off in November. McMorris Rodgers did not face a serious opponent.

Who ever thinks Palin is relevant are not coherent..... I am a republican and I feel like people who actually pay attention to her are not that sound mind anyways. I have not heard her say a single thing that made me think positively of her candidacy. She is just riding the wave while she can. If anyone thinks she can win the republican primary for 2012 they need to lay off the crack pipe.

How's that loser, quitter thing workin' out for ya, Palin?

When Republicans finally wake up to the fact that you're a clueless empty suit (two years late, BTW), you can pretty much write off a political career anywhere.

Oh, well, there's always the Fox News Republican welfare circuit.

I would say that a Palin endorsement is the "Kiss of Death," but it's more like the "Kiss of Stupidity."

Republicans should nominate her so that we can see who really needs a teleprompter when they debate. Obama is a complete policy wonk and he would surely slaughter her in any debate that requires insight into and economic or national security policies. Normally I am not the kind of person that would wish anything bad on someone but with the things that she says about Obama she deserves it. She stated that he's out of his element, well they should have a debate fon the issues in 2012 and we'll see who's really out of their element.

  13. Palin loves this country unlike Obama

Sarah Palin loves this country and vocalizes its greatness. She is a true patriot.
When you think of "patriot", does Obama ever come to mind? No, of course not. He hates this country and everything it stands for. He goes to foreign countries and bows to dictators, accepts anti-America books from dictators, and apologizes for America. He surrounds himself with America-hating communists because he, himself, is a communist.
I would once love to hear him say that he loves this country and that the founding fathers got it right with the Constitution. I want to hear him say that liberty and freedom is the cure to the oppressive forms of communist government. I want to hear him say that he believes that American people and American businesses are the best choice for pulling our economy out of the dumps. Lower taxes/Shrink govt!!!!!!!

The only candidates that Saint Sarah has endorsed so far that have won their primaries are those that were ahead by more than 10 points BEFORE her "endorsement". The "Disaster from Alaska" is a political gift for her opponents. Times are hard, and voters want REAL solutions, not Caribou Barbie's Canned Tripe.

Myabe voters are starting to see the light, or are disgusted by her foul mouth talking about the President's testicles (cajones). Ugh! Or they saw the video of her rolling her eyes at a teacher who was asking her legitimate and very simple questions that she couldn't even answer.

Whatever the reason, I pray that people open their eyes and do not allow themselves to be hornswaggled by the likes of her and her tea bagger klan.

Boy that must be a blow to super ego Sarah. Everyone knows that McCain and Rubio are going to win, so in essence, her endorsements probably have little to no bearing on either of those racists. Maybe Mama Grizzly isn't quite the powerhouse that she thinks she is. She is and always will be, however, a legend in her own mind.

Slowly the Republican Party is coming back to the Center, where you have to know something about history and policy, rather than simply being willfully ignorant whilst prattling hate speech.
