Palin defends controversial talk show host in Facebook post

(CNN) - Sarah Palin defended Dr. Laura Schlessinger on Thursday, comparing her own critics to those who have called for the resignation of the embattled radio talk show host in the wake of Schlessinger's repeated use of the N-word during a broadcast.

Palin's defense of Schlessinger, which Palin posted on her Facebook page, is the second time the former Alaska governor has defended the talk show host. Palin came to Schlessinger's defense on Wednesday via Twitter, telling the radio host: "don't retreat...reload!"

Palin expounded on those thoughts in the Facebook post.

"Does anyone seriously believe that Dr. Laura Schlessinger is a racist?" Palin wrote. "Anyone, I mean, who isn't already accusing all conservatives, Republicans, Tea Party Americans, etc., etc., etc. of being racists?"

National furor erupted when Schlessinger used the N-word 11 times in five minutes during an August 10 call with an African-American woman who was seeking advice on how to deal with racist comments from her white husband's friends and relatives. The conversation evolved into a discussion on whether it's appropriate to ever use the word, with Schlessinger arguing it's used on HBO and by black comedians.

Schlessinger apologized the following day, saying, "I was attempting to make a philosophical point, and I articulated the N-word all the way out – more than one time. And that was wrong. I'll say it again – that was wrong."

On Tuesday, Schlessinger told CNN's Larry King she was ending her show and was "regretful" over the incident. The talk show host also said she feels her freedom of speech rights "have been usurped by angry, hateful groups who don't want to debate – they want to eliminate."

On Thursday, Palin said the host's critics were unfair, and that she sympathizes with Schlessinger.

"I can understand how she could feel 'shackled' by those who would parse a single word out of decades of on-air commentary," Palin wrote. "I understand what she meant when she declared that she was 'taking back my First Amendment rights' by turning to a new venue that will not allow others the ability to silence her by going after her stations, sponsors, and supporters."

Palin added, "That's why I tend to defend people who call it like they see it while others stop at nothing to shut them up. I learned this valuable lesson when the partisan obstructionists in my state tried to shackle, bankrupt, and destroy my family and supporters, and my record, with endless frivolous litigation when I returned from the Vice Presidential campaign trail."

This is so true. I mean, there still may be racism out there somewhere in the dark corners of American society...by the reasoning that there is pretty much anything to be found in the dark corners of such a diverse society. But not Dr. Laura.

And Sarah Palin is one woman with such a good sense of her values and confident enough to stand up and support Dr. Laura here. These are impressive qualities in someone in American politics anymore. She knows some people will take whatever they can to berate her but she is confident enough to brush off those useless comments and not look back.

It is never OK to use racial slurs - period. I don't care what the situation is. What a lot of people these days tend to forget, including Caribou Barbie, is that along with our right to free speech also comes the responsibility to not use that right as a blanket to say whatever you want, consequences be damned. I am also constantly amazed that Palin ALWAYS manages to turn any situation into a "they did the same thing to me and my family" comparison. Get over yourself Sarah. You aren't that smart, you have nothing to offer except rhetoric (and bad rhetoric at that), and you are irritating beyond belief.

If you are a teacher and say that, you get fired. If you are a student, you get suspended. Say it on the air and it is your right. The only thing that Palin can compare herself to is a snake's rear end in a wagon track.

What a dummy – Palin doesn't know how to read!! The First Amendment in the Constitution says "Congress shall make no law.." CONGRESS – (free market not wanting to buy what Dr. Laura's station is selling is the free market working – aka voting with your dollar, free people can do that dummy) She is a dummy -

Interesting. They are now Tea Party Americans.

For the record, my liberal, progressive friends and I only label those who act in an overtly racist way as racist. If you use the n-word, carry racist signs, spit on black politicians and do other racist things, you will be called out as a racist. If you don't do those things, but happen to disagree with us on public policy issues, we welcome you as fellow sane Americans.

Newsflash for Saint Sarah – the First Amendment protects you from censorship by the GOVERNMENT. When you get criticized for saying something offensive by the PEOPLE, that's called "real life". And if you lose your radio program because of it, that's what REPUBLICANS call "market forces", which is something you supposedly support.

Before you shoot your ignorant mouth off about the US Constitution AGAIN Mrs. Palin, perhaps you could try READING IT FIRST!

A woman called to ask for advice and never accused Dr. Laura of being racist. Schelssinger had no right to rant pointlessly to aggravate the poor woman. We've heard enough from both Palin and that woman.

Thank goodness she's decided to end her extremist, anti-American talk show. It's for the better.

Hey Sarah Palin, Dr. Laura mentioned the work niggers eleven times and even Dr. Laura realized that she offended blacks and appologized but look at you, telling her to "reload". In another way you are telling her to go on air saying the word nigger for as long as she likes and you called that her constitutional right. Do you actually know what constitutaional rights mean? Just incase you don't know, you don't insult someone and call it your right to do so. You need to slow down.

    Sarah, Sarah, Sarah,

Laura Schlessinger is on record, more than once, as characterizing you as a buffoon, a ranter, a lunatic quitter.

Why should she now listen to you as you goad her to reload...to do what? Use the N-word 22 times? 33 times? To start actually shooting, maybe from a helicopter? What is wrong with you, lady??

Everyone knows you have the freedom of speech but common sense should tell you to stay away from words that can only be used in hate and are derogatory.

Dr. Laura proved nothing with her comments other than she doesn't seem to think before she speaks.

Why does Sarah Palin only make her comments on social web sites and not come forward to the news media as well? Sarah Palin should be talking to all public media so that she can be interviewed and find out what she thinks about various situations. Why not allow herself to be questioned about whom she supports and why? If you beleive in your thoughts and yourself why be afraid of the news media? Perhaps through interviews you may learn something also Mrs. Palin. You have made the choice to be a public person. Come out of the closet and let all of America hear your views. Maybe you might learn that your views could be different if you were to talk and learn from more than your support group.

Go CNN – you are obsessed with SARAH!!!

"Does anyone seriously believe that Dr. Laura Schlessinger is a racist?"

Ah, NO – maybe – YES – possibly – we don't know!! But what I know is she is another Limbaugh with a SKIRT. And if you listen to her deeply, you might say ah, NO – maybe – YES – possibly!!!

What a lying, grifting, miserable sub-human Palin is. Anybody that supports this awful person should be challenged over their right to label themselves an American. Obscene hate, fear, lies, and racism is all she stands for. How can you not hate her back?

Gov. Palin speaks for the under privileged, the have nots, and the underdog. And the media miss it every time. That is the reason many of her endorsements are underdogs in the race.

CNN misses the most important part of her Facebook. She talked about the frivolous ethics complaints that have all been dismissed. They have tryed to bankrupt her family, and have failed.

Gov. Palin gives voice...to the voiceless. Stay strong Gov. Palin, we have your back.

Of course she defends "Dr." Laura. If there is any ignorance or stupidity to be defended, Sarah will jump in with mouth ablaze. It was time for "Dr." Laura to go. If she doesn't understand that a white person cannot use the N-word in the same way that a black person can. How would "Dr." Laura like it if people referred to her by her ethnicity using negative terms.? For that matter, how would any white person like it if black people started to refer to them by their respective ethnicity using insulting terms? No, I'm thinking we would not like that one bit. Where has civility gone in America? I guess if I call Sarah Palin in-breeding white trash, that's okay with her? I'm thinking not so much.

This band of people who call themselves christians and hate or support hate for anyone, or question anyone's faith, make me sick.
I really don't wan tto be a christian if all that simply means that someone can doubt my christianity , just because he/she is white and born white.
This continuous name calling doubting the faith of the president, all that by a white crowd, it makes me sick and tired of christianity.
