During his time in Martha's Vineyard last year, the president enjoyed some golfing.

(CNN) - President Barack Obama and his family begin a week-long vacation in Martha's Vineyard on Friday - the president's second time on the island off the coast of Massachusetts.

In 2009, Obama spent time there golfing and hanging out with family and friends.

"It's a beautiful part of the country. It has really nice beaches and the folks are really great," Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton told reporters Thursday. "The food is terrific. And it's some place that the president went before he was president and likes to go back because it's a comfortable place where he can rest and recharge the batteries a little bit."

Some have questioned why the Obamas have chosen to go to an elite holiday spot in Massachusetts instead of the Gulf Coast, as Obama had encouraged Americans to help bolster tourism there. The first family - minus eldest daughter Malia - did visit Panama City, Florida, August 14-15, however. There, the Obamas swam in the Gulf of Mexico and played miniature golf, and the president met with business leaders about the BP oil spill and its effect on the region.

Burton said this vacation, which will last 10 days, will also include some work.

Must have nothing else to do at the White House. Must be nice. How many vacations does the "president" get per year anyway?

Have a safe trip First Family. To have the most stressful job in the world, the POTUS can use some R&R. He's no where near the amount of days Bush spent on vacation.

Cut it short and get back to work. That would show the President realizes the mess we're in and will get positive press which we need now. Take vacations after the November elections.

He certainly deserves a vacation - what with all that campaigning, birthday partying, etc, etc.

What a looser he has turned out to be!

Will be sooooooooo glad when he loses the next presidential election (hopefully, to Hillary)! Can't be soon enough!

As a Bay Stater, I'm pleased that the Obamas chose the Vineyard for their vacation.

    Enjoy your well-deserved respite!

So the Obama's take vacations all over the place and in foreign countries. He has golfed more than Bush did in his entire 8 years. Add to that the nights to Broadway and the basketball games.....

Bush got slammed every time he went to his ranch (which was ALWAYS a working vacation) and every time he went golfing.

I am not bashing the Obama's for these things, I see no problem with it. I am just pointing out the media bias.

The Republicanazis will scream about this "socialist" taking too many vacations. But Bush took more than twice as many vacation days in his first two years in office (mostly to his ranch where you can bet that Bush did little work while on vacation) even though Bush's first two years included the response to 9-11 and the invasion of Afghanistan.

So happy for him, it probably isn't easy for him flying aound the country lying at taxpayer expense and figuring out more ways to steal money from hard working Americans. Hopefully, we will be able to send him on a permanant vacation in 2012 (it is almost perpetual now, it seems). Then he can relish his legacy as being the worst, most corrupt, most inept, most incompetent president this country has ever had.

why didn't George W. Bush spend his vaction time in NYC after 09/11 or maybe even in LA after Katrina instead in Crawford TX or perhaps he should have just gone to Irag for a relaxing week lay off the guy

Mr. Obama sure does like to take vacations. Meanwhile, the country has record unemployment and record debt. Why doesn't Obama go to Camp David? Camp David is a fully functioning presidential office and Presidents can easily work from Camp David. Problem is, when Bush went to Camp David, they called it a vacation and attacked him for it. Now Obama is going to Martha's Vineyard and his dwindling supporters claim, he needs a break. A break from what? Ruining the country? Destroying jobs and wasting money must be draining.

Go and enjoy yourself Mr. President. Disconnect, and recharge.

The right-wing lunatics are trying to take over the asylum with CNN's help.

I pray for you and your family everyday.

10 days instead of the 30 day Bush vacations? Man, we really are in a recession.

I'm so glad that the President and his family can go on vacation, while millions of Americans are unemployed. Didn't the First Lady just get back from vacation in Spain? So much for us "little people."

If the everyone would just leave the Prez alone and let him implement whatever policies he wants to implement on whatever he wants to implement them on then you'd all see that his genius would turn this country into the utopia we've all been waiting on. HE NEEDS MORE POWER.
