During his time in Martha's Vineyard last year, the president enjoyed some golfing.

(CNN) - President Barack Obama and his family begin a week-long vacation in Martha's Vineyard on Friday - the president's second time on the island off the coast of Massachusetts.

In 2009, Obama spent time there golfing and hanging out with family and friends.

"It's a beautiful part of the country. It has really nice beaches and the folks are really great," Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton told reporters Thursday. "The food is terrific. And it's some place that the president went before he was president and likes to go back because it's a comfortable place where he can rest and recharge the batteries a little bit."

Some have questioned why the Obamas have chosen to go to an elite holiday spot in Massachusetts instead of the Gulf Coast, as Obama had encouraged Americans to help bolster tourism there. The first family - minus eldest daughter Malia - did visit Panama City, Florida, August 14-15, however. There, the Obamas swam in the Gulf of Mexico and played miniature golf, and the president met with business leaders about the BP oil spill and its effect on the region.

Burton said this vacation, which will last 10 days, will also include some work.

Good for them! This man has the toughest job in the world, made tougher by half of the people who're supposed to be helping him govern actually working to destroy him. If anyone thinks this vacation will be complete relaxation, they're delusional. all the concerns go with him. he's in touch and in control 24/7. and he cares 24/7. i hope he and his beautiful family have as wonderful a time as circumstances permit. the haters are going to think he's wrong if he cures cancer and brings about world peace so he just needs to ignore the morons and get the r&r he needs to allow him to continue doing the toughest job in the world about as well as i've ever seen it done.

I am so sick of this criticism. FIrst of all – do you really think a President's vacation is anything like a regular persons? Do you really think he's not with advisors, in constant contact with White House admin., and running the Country just like he does when he's in the White House? Do you want a President who is so overworked, stressed out and depleated that he can't do his job? Why does the media always need to make an issue out of nothing? Bush spent the entire month of August 2001 at his ranch in Crawford on 'vacation' even after he had received critical threats that Al Qieda was ready to bomb targets in the USA. He spent most of his presidency at his Texas ranch. Why does President Obama have to answer to everything he does when Bush got a pass for these types of things? Could we not just try and let this President preside over this Country. My real fear is not terrorists from other countries. It's the terrorists that are in the form of Palin, Newt, O'Reilly, Rush and all the hate mongers that don't seem to want this Country to ever come together. And what's so disgusting is their intentions are not to help this Country but to line their own pockets.

OK, where are all those idiots who used to complain about how many vacations Bush took?

Not only does obummer take more vacations, he hardly works. He is till on the campaign / blame trail.

One day he'll actually assume the job of President. Probably in about 2 years when he is hopefully leaving office.

Every time I have clicked on this summer there has been some kind of news article about one or all of the Obamas taking a vacation. I guess they stop back at the White House to change suitcases.

It would be nice if The president tried staying in Washington DC trying to solve the countries jobs instead of vacationing AGAIN.

Good for you, Mr. President!! You have been WORKING VERY HARD for us and you deserve some down time. Who cares what the haters criticisms are? Maybe if they would replicate your hard work at something constructive instead of only being obstructionist, they might earn a vacation too!!!! Enjoy yourself and your family, you'll have to deal with the party of NO soon enough!!!!!!!

"Some have questioned ..." Please see your reporting a week ago of the trip to the Gulf and the President swimming in the Gulf with his daughter.

It's not so much media bias that is standing in the way of the realization of the Jeffersonian ideal of a educated public as it is media incompetence. Cut down on the cost of blow dryers and hire some editors.

While Obama takes more vacations than I like (I don't believe in taking any), he has a long way to go before he can catch up to the record of lazier presidents like G.W. Bush or Reagan. And, you have to keep in mind that this president has two young daughters who need their father to spend some time with them. You'd think "family values" Republicans would realize that, but they don't.

It's the most stressful job on the planet, especially when you have to clean up after a Republican presidency that came close to destroying the country. I reckon some downtime is warranted.

3 vacations in 2 weeks?! Everyday people dont get that much time. The job cant be that stressful 'cuz hes never at work it seems. He would rather act like a 12 yr old and keep blaming bush. You wanted to be prez. but it seems to hard for you so just quit. You re not doing anything but wasting my money you lazy clown!

Jobs and the economy will be the first priority of his administration. He will put a lazer-like focus on these issues.

CNN stop trying to instigate. You are not happy unless people are attacking our President. President Obama has not had one full day of rest since before his campaign and you know it. Even when he's on "vacation" he has to deal with the right wing nuts, one catastrophe after another like the shoe bomber, deaths of politicians, etc. Why don't you report some real news like the party of no not passing the jobs bill.

I am glad they can afford it. Good thing you can not be laid off as president or any other members in Washington. forgo your own pay and stop living like the economy is healthy. people are not working there are no jobs and not even an attempt to create jobs for people. stay in Washington and do your job, at this rate you won't be re-elected and then you will have all the time in the world to write books and take vacations. fix the problems, mainly jobs. then get re-elected and maybe enjoy your second term if you can get anything corrected right now!

"I feel your pain," Obama said to the unemployed and broken nation, as he jetted off to "summah" on exclusive "Mahhtha's Vinyahhhd."

Gee, and you wonder why the country thinks you're an elitist.

    One and Done.
    Four and the Door.
    A single term,
    and nothing more.

Not work free....yeah tell me another one! If he has to go on another vacation-he should have picked the Gulf Coast to support tourism-isn't that what he said to the public?!

Lay off the Prez. How many days did Bush spend "working" at his ranch, flying around the "moon" culture of his? Get off Obama's case.

This President, like others before him, has a right to take a vacation every once in a while. I am so sick of watching him get beat up by EVERY media outlet (Right and Left) I could just scream.

But, because I am a concerned citizen of the United States, I have to watch and/or read some news so I know when progress is made. He and his administration are making progress and that's the real story here.

Go catch your breath Mr. President and go to the places you like best.. Don't let anyone tell you not to go home to Chicago or Hawaii, or Martha's Vineward. (No one had a problem with Kennebunkport, Crawford or Santa Barbara, where the Reagans and Bush's spent all their time.) We need you rested and ready for the next oil spill, auto industry crisis, fight to extend unemployment benefits for Americas working class, etc.

    Peace and Blessings

Good for him. He deserves another vacation. He has worked so hard raising money for the Obama Wing of the Democrat Party that he must be exhausted.
I enjoy reading about his many vacations because it is the best thing he can do for America.

Doesn't it strike a new low when you have people questioning how and where an American spends his/her vacation.

How'd you like your boss telling you where you should take your vacation?
