Shirley Sherrod to meet Tuesday with Vilsack over job

(CNN) - Shirley Sherrod, who received an apology after being forced to resign from the Agriculture Department, will meet Tuesday with Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to discuss a job offer, a department official confirmed Saturday.

It will be the first face-to-face meeting between the two since a controversial sequence of events last month culminated in her stepping down.

Sherrod, who was the Agriculture Department's Georgia Director of Rural Development, has said she is being offered the position of Deputy Director of the Office of Advocacy and Outreach.

The position includes administration and outreach to improve the Agriculture Department's civil rights efforts and image nationwide.

The department official who confirmed the meeting asked not to be identified.

Sherrod was forced to resign in July after misleading and incomplete video footage of a speech she gave was posted on the internet and picked up in media reports. Vilsack apologized to her and offered her the promotion.

The flap began after conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart posted a portion of a speech Sherrod gave in which she spoke of not offering her full help to a white farmer. The original post by Breitbart indicated that the incident Sherrod mentioned occurred when she worked for the Agriculture Department, and news outlets quickly picked up on the story.

However, the incident took place decades before she joined the department, and her speech in its unedited form made the point that people should move beyond race. In addition, the white farmer who Sherrod mentioned has told reporters that she helped him save his farm.

Sherrod spoke about the incident Saturday at a meeting of the Federation of Southern Cooperatives Land Assistance Fund in Epes, Alabama.

She said her work with other agencies to help poor counties in south Georgia was overlooked during the controversy.

Sherrod said Saturday she has no criticism of President Barack Obama and believes the NAACP, which initially condemned her comments, was tricked.

NAACP President Ben Jealous spoke Saturday at the Alabama meeting.

Repeated calls to Sherrod were not returned Saturday.

He is continuing to protect the white house on her case, and CNN keeps on protecting the white house due to the coming election (the piece on Islam by the professor was all negating others but saying nothing, and protecting the president, without suggesting an explanation to his father origin and his name origin, without which the situation of misinformation in the American public will not improve). The 2008 trend of bias is reviving itself!??

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal was born in India but yet the Republicans supported him for president. Read his bio carefully and draw your own conclusion. Furthermore, John McCain was born in Panama, but the rules were changed to fit him.

I admire Shirley Sherrod, this is a women with tremendous inner strength
who is still able "make her voice heard". What Briebert did was unacceptable,however..... what type of disipline did her incur???
May light and transparency come forth accompanied by Lady Justice.
Shirley's case parallels my case. However my case started in 2005.
    We need each other Shirly.

Judge Nixon.. Severe racism, misconduct, mismagemnt, experimental test site that came down right after 9/11. Can you imagine aid coming in during Katrina within the agency ant being to"Don't sent that out!". That's only one thing in my case that started in 2005. I can't talk about it. It makes me sick. The good thing...I was pro-se for so long. I now have an attorney.

Claudia; the rules have always said that children born to our troops on foreign soil are born citizens of the US. This is the way it should be. No rules were changed to fit McCain.

According to Wikipedia, Bobby Jindal was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His parents had immigrated from India.

John McCain is a citizen by birth since his parents were American citizens.

Barack Obama is an American citizen by birth as his mother was an American citizen (and the present discussion of the 14th Amendment would not change that, as far as In know).

The spreading of disinformation with malicious intent really should not be encouraged by responsible news organizations.

As to the malicious attack on Shirley Sherrod by Andrew Breitbart, I can only say that the USDA acted far too quickly - sack Vilsack?

Why on earth are all the nutjobs still trying to pretend that there is any aspect of 'no-citizenship' to Barack Obama? I mean for crying out loud, you morons. If you disagree with his policies, that's fine. To continue to spread lies about his citizenship just shows you up for the gullible idiots you are. Quit lilstening to the likes of Anne Coulter and Rush Limbaugh. They have openly admitted that they deliberately spread lies and filth because it makes the ratings go up and they get more money – because of returds like yourselves. Grow up, use your brain cell if you have one or two, and find something REAL to complain about, not these artificial fibs.
