(CNN) - Levi Johnston filed paperwork on Friday that confirms his intent to run for office in Wasilla, Alaska – presumably for the same office Sarah Palin held until 2002.
Filing a letter of intent is typically the first step local politicians take when seeking elected office. Johnston's filing permits him to accept campaign contributions.
In the Alaska Public Offices Commission form letter, Johnson filled out a blank stating he intends to run for office in the "City of Wasilla 2011" election but did not declare an office. But, Stone & Company Entertainment confirmed to CNN on August 10 that it is actively shopping a show that will feature Johnston running for mayor.
"Loving Levi: The Road to the Mayor's Office," will feature the trials and tribulations of America's most famous teen dad as he enters the world of politics while continuing to dabble in Hollywood, the production company also confirmed.
The incumbent mayor, Verne Rupright, won a 2008 runoff election with 466 votes. He took a shot at Levi after news of "Loving Levi" broke.
"Well, it is a little early to declare. Usually most wait until the year the seat is up," current Wasilla Mayor Verne Rupright said in a statement. "But since I am nearly old enough to be Levi's grandfather I think it would be wise for him to get a high school diploma and keep his clothes on. The voters like that!"

Why not!? Go for it Levi. If Sarah Palin can be elected to public office in Alaska, why not Levi? He is just as qualified as Palin (if not more so).
I still think Palin running for president is a scarier thought.

Perfect for Wasilla, AK. An uneducated, inexperienced, former Midget League hockey player wants to be mayor. At least we know one thing he knows how to do (but does he do it well?). I can't think of a better job for him.

The liberals on this blog are so petty. You guys like Levi when he is bashing Sarah, but since he isn't really doing that you are bashing him because of his past connections to Sarah. Whether he is doing this for fame is one thing, but since we do not know that for sure lay off him. At least he is young and showing an interest in politics. Additionally, I thought you liberals were so diverse and you give people a chance without judging them, seems like most of you have insulted the entire state of Alaska by talking down to them. There are a lot of politicians in the lower 48 that are pigs and should crawl back to their troughs.

Why so many insults to the poor people who live in Wasilla? I'm sure they are appalled that this narcissistic young man is giving their town such negative publicity. I'm not a big Sara Palin fan but I'm sure she couldn’t have predicted the embarrassment he has brought to their family. Hopefully after he loses this "election", he will just go away.
Go for it Levi! If Palin did it, there's no reason you can't. You're looking for work, there's an opening, so why not? Unfortunately he has to go the TV route where he can get money. He wants to be a father to his baby and he just might surprise the folks and be a good mayor!
Back to Levi.... if it'd keep his brand of TPT up in Alaska, and draw The Quitter back up North and away from the lower 48, I'd vote for him in a nanosecond.
