Vineyard Haven (CNN) - Like a tree falling in the forest, it's the First Family's island vacation with very few witnesses. The Obama's have so far managed to spend almost five days on Martha's Vineyard out of the public's eye.

As bad weather rolled in Sunday and stretched into Monday, the Obamas have remained holed up on the 28 acre Blue Heron farm, in Chilmark, Massachusetts.

The pool of reporters typically assembled each day to follow the President around, were sent packing early Monday and told that there might be some movement late in the afternoon. But don't hold your breath that if they are re-assembled, they'll actually catch a glimpse of the President, let alone get any video to document it.

After following the President on two island golf outings, both of which lasted for more than four hours each, camera crews returned with only video of the motorcade. They were so far back in the pack, that they never even saw the President's SUV.

The first family arrived on Martha's Vineyard on Thursday. Since then, the only public appearance was a quick shopping trip to the Vineyard Haven book shop 'Bunch of Grapes.'

The President and first daughters browsed the inventory, before they purchased some books, including 'The Red Pony,' by author John Steinbeck.

Mr. Obama signed autographs before exiting the store and the public's eye.

Total time seen in public so far? Less than a half hour.

Good for you Mr. President. Take your vacation. And where are the other members from Capitol Hill right now?

Good for the President and his lovely family. I hope they can stay "under the radar" for the remaining of their much needed vacation and family time together. With school starting soon for Sasha and Malia, I think it is great the press is not getting access. I'm sure Major Garrett over at FoxNoise is grumbling the loudest that the "Celebrity" in chief is being so stealth! HA!

  4. All the news that is fit to omit

I wish he would stay holed up as the longer this lying gutless fraud stays here, the less damage he can do.

Having it rain is just an added bonus.

The President has two young children that shouldn't be exposed to the public every minute of the day. They aren't looking to start a "Reality TV Show".

A Republican plot to pull the reporters into damming up the stream that runs through Blue flush the President of the United States from his hiding place. Right? CNN, send your interns back to school!

Geesh, can the man take a breather from the press once in a while? After all the criticism he gets, a few vacays here and there won't hurt.

  10. We voted for this?

Obama = unpopular/unsustainable policies, vacations and unemployment.

At least he and Michelle are having fun.

They all do it Republican and Democrats...they complain about rich people then drive around in Limosines and vacation 7 weeks a year. They all complain about the environment but use limosines, private jets and live in mansions (even before they are president!). They complain about the homeless but have 2 or 3 houses each. They complain about corruption but then do favors in exchange for campaign contributions. They are all the same. This president hasn't given us "HOPE" or "CHANGE" , he has given us more of the same. Frankly I hope Romney wins the next election. Romney's views are moderate and his business experience will likely result in better policies than President Obama.

I need CNN to step to the plate and be the best political team in news and stop pushing the side menu issue. To be the best you must educate you viewers. Pres. Obama has to Martha Venyard's because is secured and it can house his security team. Now, was that hard to say. CNN stop with the nonsense and get to the point! The silly season is back in full swing!

So???!!!!.....He's on vacation with his family. We don't need to be a part of that. Give the man some privacy with his family!!! Nosie, nosie, nosie. Where do this get this idea that we are entitled to know when the President wipes his nose or tickles his kid? Leave him alone....Please...because this is getting old.

Obama is probably going over Michelle's Credit Card bill from Spain. Oh, thats right, I'm sure American Taxpayers paid it. Has to work on the speech to claim victory bringing home our Troops – Oh, that's right – Bush mandated the dates. Now I am blank. Any ideas?

I was actually pleasantly surprised that the nation's worst president didn't make a big splash on the Vineyard. The arrogant president of course shut down entire streets whenever he ventured out in public, so that's probably part of the reason why Vineyarders aren't excited about his return visit.

MOST people LOVE our president. At least those who don't wear "colored" glasses.

    May the Obama's enjoy themselves!

Can these people go just three weeks without taking a vacation?! If the Bushes had done this, the media would have had a hissee fit.

This is rich. The press, following the President around like a lost puppy, have been ragging the same old "Gee, should the President actually be on vacation?" crap for days and they then expect him to welcome themselves to his time just so they can smear and misquote him again? No doubt, they will be writing stories now about "how much the pressure is getting to him" stories they like to trot out when a door gets slammed in their faces.

I'm glad they are out of sight.

Can you imagine having to live 18 hours a day ... 365 days a year for EIGHT YEARS in a fish bowl. If it were me I'd snap and pop the poparazzi....

Even if the President's opponents don't think so, they deserve some privacy.

For the constant criticizers, our President deserves a vacation. ALL Republicans in the House and Senate are on vacation until mid-September. Why they need a vacation is beyond me...they have done NO work all year.

House Min Leader Boehner spent more time on an "all male" golf course than he did in his office doing any work for the People in his high unemployment district in Ohio. He spent more time tanning than working on solutions with Speaker Pelosi to help America recover
Our NC do-nothing Republican Sen, Burr voted NO on every single piece of legislation without even bothering to read it. He just took the stance he was going to obstruct everything regardless how it hurt the people back here in NC. He spent more time at parties than he did in his office. He has not been in NC most of the year so he has no clue what we are facing and what issues we care about. Now he has appeared in NC teling lies about all he has done for us. Who does he think he is fooling? If your voting record is NO on every vote – how is that standing up for the People?

I am sure your Republican member of Congress is just like mine. "NO" votes on everything. Only criticism – no ideas or solutions. Like mine – voted against unemployment benefits, voted against soldier pay raises to get their families off welfare, voted against healthcare help for the 9/11 first responders who are now sick and dying from all the toxic dust they breathed in, voted against holding the corrupt Wall St banks accountable with reasonable regulations, voted against consumer protections from greedy credit card companies, voted against protection from foreclosure for homeowners, voted against credit for stable small businesses who want to expand and hire workers..and the list goes on over 200 times.

Democrats WORKED. President Obama WORKED. They deserve time off. They deserve our votes this November. They DELIVERED important solutions that were ALL for We the People.

For all of you with right wing amnesia, Bush spent more time on his ranch in TX than he did at the White House. Even when the CIA warned him and Cheney there were credible imminent threats on the US by Al Qaeda in August 2001 – Bush left and went to TX for a month.

Now we have a brilliant President who understands and cares about the American People, works hard for us, is a great father who is trying to not miss his daughters' childhoods and be part of their lives, and when he does take time off (rarely) he goes to real cities where his mere presence brings huge money to that economy.

Enjoy your well-deserved time with your family, Mr President. Take a nice break from the Republican hate.
