New York (CNN) - A former madam who claims to have provided prostitutes to former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer says she is running as an independent candidate for governor.
Kristin Davis, one of eight candidates who secured positions on the November ballot by filing independent petitions, lists herself as the gubernatorial candidate of the Anti-Prohibition Party, according to the New York State Board of Elections.
"I am running on a platform of personal and economic freedom," Davis writes on her website. "I want to end the prohibition on marijuana, gay marriage and casino gambling to generate new revenues instead of raising taxes on already over-taxed New Yorkers."
On her website, Davis describes herself as "the ex-Madam who supplied call-girls for Eliot Spitzer when he was both Attorney General and Governor." She says she filed 22,000 voter signatures with the board of elections to get on the ballot.
According to the website, prior to starting an escort service she spent 10 years in finance and was vice president of a hedge fund.
Davis served four months in jail after pleading guilty to one count of promoting prostitution, according to her website.
Spitzer declined to comment on Davis' candidacy.
Spitzer resigned as governor in 2008 after it was revealed he visited a high-priced prostitute
It was announced in June that Spitzer will co-host a nightly discussion program on CNN starting this fall.

A prostitute as a Governor...can't be worse than what they have now.
She may be running as a independent but she has to a far left independent, close to the Professional left's ideas. This should create somewhat of a circus atmosphere in the race. With the platform she's running on she probably chose the wrong year to start her political career.
Finally! Someone with common-sense on how to generate revenue!
You will NOT stop people from prostitution or the use of marijuana so regulate it, tax it, legislate it, and earn money off of it!
If the entire country would legalize and regulate these two things, the following would happen:
- Mexico drug cartels would lose a HUGE portion of their profits and reasons for invading this country with their drugs and personnel.
- South border violence would decrease and the threat against our own country would lessen.
- If properly controlled, like the other widely-used drug called alcohol, it would generate a substantial form of income for the entire union.
- Lessen the burden on our prison system by jailing people for these petty crimes.
- Lessen crime in our cities for these activities, because they are currently forced underground instead of out in-the-open and regulated.
Ahhhhh, there is no publicity like free publicity....
While I think anybody can file to run for the office of governor, It is appalling for some one to say I am the ex madam that supplied call girls to the former governor. When will wirdos like this woman stop bringing down political system. And by the way leave Elliot Spitzer alone. The man is trying to put his life together again. His shortcoming is nothing new and should not be sensationalized all the time. Aside from his mistake, Spitzer is one of the most intelligent people to ever hold public office. Enough is enough of the Spitzer issue.
Hey, if Spitzer can get back into politics, I don't see why his whore supplier can't run for his old job.

I hope that she wins by some miracle. At least she doesn't pretend to be something she's not. She's obviously not a politician.

The Madam is a natural politician – but she is not advocating for the VAT (Value Added Tax) that would tax prostitution revenues.
