Boehner has 'created a myth' about tax cuts, Biden says

Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday hit back at House Minority Leader John Boehner’s remarks on the economy.
Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday hit back at House Minority Leader John Boehner’s remarks on the economy.

(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday hit back hard–and sarcastically–at House Minority Leader John Boehner's call for President Obama to fire Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and other high-ranking economic officials.

"His chief proposal when you look at it apparently was that the president should fire his economic team," Biden said. "Very constructive advice and we thank the leader for that."

Biden echoed the Democratic message that aims to remind Americans that Republicans held power in the run-up to the recent economic downturn.

"Mr. Boehner is nostalgic for those good old days, but the American people are not," Biden said in reference to the Ohio Republican's call for a full extension of the Bush tax cuts.

Biden said Boehner has "created a myth" that extending tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans would stimulate the economy.

"We've seen this movie before Mr. Boehner," Biden said. "And we know how it ends. The American people deserve something different and something better."

  3. BIden should resign

Geithner shoud be fired, not becasue he is incompetent (which he is), but because he cheated on his taxes and committed perjury before his Congressional hearings.

The Obama economic team shold be fired in bulk, becasue they have failed America miserably.

Biden should resign, because he just does not add anything ny sarcasm and obscenities to the national debate.

  5. Biden's words are empty

I have read Biden's message 10 times and it is hollow – totally devoid of anything positive or substantive - and is just another way for a Democratic leader to blame Bush. Biden does not offer one single affirmative or constructive comment on what he and President Teleprompter are going to do to create jobs. Time to clean house, including Treasury Secretary Turbo Tax Fraud.

Republican rhetoric is always sweet to the human ear small government, cut taxes brah brah but when they have the government they always do the opposite. Their main problem is they don't have any economic agenda to move forward this Great Nation!. In 2008 this is is what I said " soon the mandarin language will be a prerequisite to get a job." Some of you agreed with me and some called me names but look China has become the second biggest world economy. Continue getting ideas from Sharron Angle, Sarah, Becks, & hannity and soon you find that, we will be shinning the Chinese shoes on the streets of Hongkong. PLEASE REPUBLICANS STOP RUINING OUR NATIONS THROUGH GREED!!!

You know what, let Joe Biden deal with this lunatic Bonehead and everyone else that crawls out from betwixt the cracks. Joe is known for shooting first, and checking for wounded later. Joe is an expert at dealing with these yahoos and yo-yos; he speaks their double-talk brand of language when he chooses, and he LOOKS JUST LIKE THEM.

Yes. Let Joe deal with the detractors, and the fact-challenged side of the aisle. If the GOP think they've got 'something' by putting Michael Steele out front to say what THEY can't say, well......they haven't met OUR JOE!!!!

    Go get 'em Joey!!

I want to hear one, just ONE, Repub come forward and say how they intend to pay to continue the tax cuts for the wealthy! They would not vote to extend unemployment benefits to middle income Americans who are suffering because they said the benefits had to be paid for. Yet they want to continue to provide "benefits" in the form of tax cuts to the very top 1% of the wealthiest Americans! And before you Fox "News" sycophants start in about how it's going to hurt small business . . . that's a lie too! Only about 3% of small businesses will be affected by going back to the previous tax rate. 3%! And the increase will only affect their earnings OVER 250k.

Vote NO for the party of NO!

Vice-President Biden must have the same news I have regarding the minority leader's self touted speech. I heard yesterday the John Boehner was addressing the City Club of Cleveland. It was my understanding that he was going 'outline' some kind of Republican Plan for America to get back on its feet, you know jobs and economy, that kind of stuff. What I heard so far regarding the City Club speech was John Boehner call to Obama to fire Geithner and Obama's economic team. So far, nothing much else. Yesterday, I asked CNN to post the transcripts of the City Club speech. So far nothing. So now on August 31, 2010 we are supposed to hear something on Iraq. Who does John Boehner want fired concerning the Iraq War? Where are those transcripts regarding the Republican Plan for economic recovery? Where? Where? Where? I do not want CNN or any other news source to tell me what was said, I want to read and hear for my self what was said. Way too much disinformation floating around; too much 'editing with agenda'. By the way, I agree with what Vice-President Biden says in the above article. Thank you.

"Biden echoed the Democratic message that aims to remind Americans that Republicans held power in the run-up to the recent economic downturn."

Democrats took control of Congress (and spending/legislative power) in 2006 – i.e. FOUR YEARS AGO. I thought he was in Congress at the time, but Space Cadet Joe might have missed the memo.

Actually I read an article yesterday on CNBC written by Commentator / Journalist Mark Hanes refuting the Republican rhetoric about the benefits of tax cuts. The article cited several economists whose knowledge and expertise I would believe before an egocentric politician.

Thank you Mr. Vice President. Call it what you want, but keeping the tax cuts (offered by Mr Bush with borrowed money) will do anything additional for stimulating the economy. The speaker may be stimulating by paying that 10% tax on tanning

The expiration of the bush tax cuts were part of the bill republicans passed in reconcilliation. The republicans want you to believe that Obama is raising your taxes. He's not....it's already law! The mistake the party of NO did was to put an end date on the bill. Passing them did not help the economy nor was there a trickle down effect to help middle class America. The top 2% who will be affected already have about 65% of GDP and about 85% of stocks and bonds. AND THEY WANT MORE????? Please, do not believe this distorted information!

It's not a myth. boner and his rethug friends live in their own little rich world and they don't want anyone else to move in.
The shrub's tax cuts are only good for the rich. We cannot continue with them.
boner should go tan himself more often and stay away from making any more dumb comments. He's beginning tto sound like the half term governor from AK.
This man has been an Ohio politician for 20 years? What are the people in Ohio drinking? Tan water?

Hello, Mr.Biden, you've been in office nearly 2 years now and you haven't realized the nation is in big trouble and the country is looking for leadership to get us out of this mess. The reported number of unemployment is 9.5% so i suppose the actual number is over 10% and your administration is calling this the summer recovery.

VP Biden seems awfully arrogant and sarcastic considering that UNEMPLOYMENT is getting worse and the economy look like its about to fall back into recession! A little less arrogance, corrupt spending, and debt might go a long way!!!!

Put a sock in it, Joe. Where are all the jobs you promised ? What happened to "we'll keep unemployment below 8%"? You don't have a leg to stand on in this argument. When you actually deliver for the American people then maybe you can act smug, but until then you should entertain other ideas because yours aren't cutting it.

Go Joe! Boehner is an over-tanned idiot. No doubt, spending all that time in his tanning bed has depleted Boehner's neurons to dangerous levels. Soon he'll simpy be drooling on himself.
