Boehner has 'created a myth' about tax cuts, Biden says

Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday hit back at House Minority Leader John Boehner’s remarks on the economy.
Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday hit back at House Minority Leader John Boehner’s remarks on the economy.

(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday hit back hard–and sarcastically–at House Minority Leader John Boehner's call for President Obama to fire Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and other high-ranking economic officials.

"His chief proposal when you look at it apparently was that the president should fire his economic team," Biden said. "Very constructive advice and we thank the leader for that."

Biden echoed the Democratic message that aims to remind Americans that Republicans held power in the run-up to the recent economic downturn.

"Mr. Boehner is nostalgic for those good old days, but the American people are not," Biden said in reference to the Ohio Republican's call for a full extension of the Bush tax cuts.

Biden said Boehner has "created a myth" that extending tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans would stimulate the economy.

"We've seen this movie before Mr. Boehner," Biden said. "And we know how it ends. The American people deserve something different and something better."

Geithner is a clueless tax cheat who was forced upon us because he was supposed to work miracles with the economy...Too bad all we ended up with is a clueless tax cheat.

You tell 'em, Joe! Boehner is a hack and wouldn't recognize an original thought if one struck him in the head. He parrots talking points written for him by Limbaugh and Beck.

    Joe
You are absolutely right. Boehner is just another all-too-typical right wing extremist controlled Rebulican. Tax cuts for the wealthy, no funding of the Iraw war, no exit strategy for the war, reduce funding for the VA hospitals, and NO ideas.

Talking points talking points. You want the government figures on how the dropping of the tax cuts will effect $80K – 4250K earners? Go to treasury.org and follow the money.

Tax cuts bring low unemployment and profitable businesses. That is the fact Mr. Biden. Your Party got us into this Economic mess. Vote 100% Republican this November and 2012. A vote for a Democrat is a vote for disaster.

People who sit around doing nothing but waiting for an inheritance pay no taxes on the inheritance money that is new to them.

People who sit around doing nothing but collecting investment income pay a lower tax rate (capital gains) than people who actually work for a living.

Structuring our tax code to reward wealth and sloth hasn't funded our government very well. Maybe those lucky enough to inherit money and those lucky enough to have investment income ought to pay the same tax rate as working people.

Well ya know Joe. Your comments assume America is better off under the new policies of the Obama administration. Not too convincing an argument considering all the candidate are still running against the Bush administration instead of their miraculous achievements in the past 20 months.

We do deserve something better and something different. We deserve a complete cleansing of Washington, DC of all incumbant Democrats and Republicans and their offspring for 20 years. Maybe that will cleanse the gene pool a little.

    Aw Well,
The good old days. Is that when everyone took personal responsibility rather that wait for someone else to do it. Or is it the creeping nanny state where you send all your money up to the government and believe they will do what's best for you. The creeping nanny state was tried in the old Soviet Union. Anyone know where that went?

Now I kinda like Joe Biden and think he may be allright as a Senator or VP. But I don't think Joe would make a very good Milkman because all we get from Joe is a Lotta Bull.

Oh come on... Yes they were in charge during the run up to this mess.

BUT – really show us what you (current government has done to reduce cost – improve ANYTHING.

You have been in there for 19 months now – so far I have only see you do is line your pockets and cost us middle class workers more in tax – and I am not even going to to go into what you have done to our kids...

It is time for a change – TERM LIMIT FOR CONGRESS, Social Security instead of your tax payer funded pension, and the same health care that you are shoveling out to us...

Show some morals and earn the respect that our position deserves!

When all that comes out of Boehners mouth are propaganda and lies, one cannot give him any credibility.
He has been a supportive party to all the obstruction the republicans have put forth to destroy any plan to try and resolve the crisises they created. He, as all republicans has undying love and support for Wall St and the rich over the welfare of the American people. They try to destroy all policies to help small business, any incentives, unemployment etc but have the audicity of compliaining about lack of jobs.
They are truly on the path to becoming our country's most dangerous domestic terrorists, out to destroy our country and us.

At what point will the American people start to hold the Obama administration accountable. He may have inherited the mess from Bush, but he has done nothing to fix it.

You are wrong Joe. As part of the American public, I am getting nostagic for the good old days when their were jobs and the government wasn't taking as much of my money and wasting it!

I love how these politicians love putting words into the mouth of the American public, while ignoring what the public really thinks!

"Biden echoed the Democratic message that aims to remind Americans that Republicans held power in the run-up to the recent economic downturn."

Guess he forgot that Democrats controlled the house for 4 years before Obama became President.

Yeah it ends with electing a Democratic Congress and Whitehouse (president and vice president both) that are inept morons who don't understand that is not possible to tax a country into prosperity. The economy was not nearly this bad off under bush, it crashed under the current moron and his lack of leadership and the fact that Biden is leading the demobrat charge full of lies and non-functioning economic principles doesnt surprise me at all.

What a classless individual Biden is. All Boehner is saying is when an economy is tanking that LAST thing you do is raise taxes!! Republicans are not against tax increases but against tax increases during this terrible economic decline that the Democrats have created since they took power of Congress in 2006 and, since Obama has become president, has become much much worse.

Why? Because Obama WANTS private markets to fail!! Obama wants a government controlled system and that doesn't work with a private sector so Obama is INTENTIONALLY making our businesses and economy fail!! Don't believe me? Then why would a president tell businesses their costs are going up to pay for health care, their taxes are going up to pay for more government spending, and so on. Obama WANTS this economy to fail and, so far, has been doing an excellent job.
