Boehner has 'created a myth' about tax cuts, Biden says

Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday hit back at House Minority Leader John Boehner’s remarks on the economy.
Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday hit back at House Minority Leader John Boehner’s remarks on the economy.

(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday hit back hard–and sarcastically–at House Minority Leader John Boehner's call for President Obama to fire Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and other high-ranking economic officials.

"His chief proposal when you look at it apparently was that the president should fire his economic team," Biden said. "Very constructive advice and we thank the leader for that."

Biden echoed the Democratic message that aims to remind Americans that Republicans held power in the run-up to the recent economic downturn.

"Mr. Boehner is nostalgic for those good old days, but the American people are not," Biden said in reference to the Ohio Republican's call for a full extension of the Bush tax cuts.

Biden said Boehner has "created a myth" that extending tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans would stimulate the economy.

"We've seen this movie before Mr. Boehner," Biden said. "And we know how it ends. The American people deserve something different and something better."

Continuing tax cuts on wealthy INDIVIDUALS will not help small BUSINESSES. It will not create more jobs, period. The rich are not fools, they will not be investing during a down time. They are just sitting on their pile of cash or, if they are smart, deleveraging.

Again the GOP have in wrong. The Bush tax cuts were way too deep and robbed us of the resources needed to defend ourselves and pay our own way. We now have no choice but to borrow from our children's future. Thanks, but no. NO to the party of NO and their orange hued leader!

Biden you are such an intelligence deprived individual. Obama's advisors should resign. They are clueless.

House Majority Leader Boehner isn't what Ohio needs either. Boehner stood by and helped GWB put the hard working people of Ohio in soup lines. As a native Ohioian I know how honest and hard working these people are and it sadden me when spoiled little rich boys that snubbed the poor all their lives are now making decisions for them.

I would like to know which school of economics did this so called idiot Boehner attended as compared to that of Larry Summers and Tim Geithner? Other than politicing what does Boehner know about economics? Larry Summers was among the team during the Clinton Administration that created 22 million jobs and got us surpluses what is this fool talking about. The Dems have a chance to hit back hard on this issue otherwise were going right back to the same policies that put us in this mess. Larry Summers was a professor at Harvard University the best school in the nation. Does Boehner even has any relative who has ever attented that University? Does he even know what it means to be a professor? Geithner saved us from a Depression. I have no doubt in my mind, Republicans wanted us to taste the Depression and then later on blame it on Obama

I do not see how biden can make jokes about anyone, seeing as how he is the second biggest joke in the world and his boss is the biggest joke.

I'm sitting back and waiting to see what all the morons and tea baggers will do when the Repubs regain power and drive this country deeper into economic despair. I wonder if they will protest them? I doubt it, though.

Joe pretty much nailed it there. 9 out of 10 economists believe that the path that Geithner followed was the correct one. And by the way 9 out of 10 economists also believe that the the 10th one is an idiot. Where would GM be right now if he had followed any other course. While this armchair quaterbacking by the Republicans is the best they can do, the Democratics had better be careful not to indulge to greatly in the Bush blame game either.

Excellent, and very well played, Mr. Vice President!

Boehner and his cronies have gotten away with virtual murder-of the economy, of the American spirit, of trust in our fellow citizens and especially in our national institutions. It is time he turn tail and be told to sit down.

I knew people like him in high school-but not since. Such a "poseur" as they used to say about such "above-it-all" snobs. He seems to have created a myth in his own mind, that's for sure.

    Mr. Boehner-good day, sir!

The Democrats need to be reminded that they've held the top job for 2 years and the Congress for four. The economy is still in the dumps and some of the numbers show that we are going backward, not forward. A change at the Fed and some changes on Obama's economic team are not out of order.

"Biden echoed the Democratic message that aims to remind Americans that Republicans held power in the run-up to the recent economic downturn."

Does he ever remind people that Democrats have had control of Congress since January 2007 when things really started to fall apart??

People need to be reminded that the recession started in 2007 and was in full melt down by Sep 2008 (long before Obama was President). The tax cuts for the wealthy did not create jobs but they did create huge deficits. The GOP has no credibility when it comes to jobs or the deficit.

What's that song? Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket, save it for a rainy day. Just substitute tax cuts for falling star and you'll see what the rich do with their tax cuts.

Biden, we are not all stupid....the democrats had control under Bush! You folks will manipulate everything to make yourselves look good. I am sooo tired of the dem blame game. You are looking too desperate coming into elections. All people want are jobs and the stop of the spending. Try cutting wasteful spending, and work within a budget. It might be a good example to citizens who rely on credit cards to have all the amenities of life they cannot afford. This is what this country gets when you elect an inexperienced community organizer with a socialist agenda.

Mr. Biden beware. Your boss promised change. This is the one change that your boss should have made, remove Wall Street from the Streets of our Nation's capital. Boehner knows that Main Street is tired of Geithner and Summers. If voting for Republicans will get them out, then so be it.

Biden is a fool. His only use is to make Obama look better by comparison, which he does rather well. They keep blaming Bush. Let's look at it this way. Let's say Bush tripped us. Obama promised to pick us up. All he has done is stepped on us and held us down. All of his great answers have had plenty of time to work. THEY DON"T! They never will. The Democrats don't want the level of prosperity this country has had before for the regular people. They want to dictate and distribute as they feel you need. They want control of you, not for you to have control of your own destiny. They want big government to be in control of. Yea, some things went sour on Bush's watch, but he was a hell of a lot better than Obama. At least most people had a chance to fend for themselves.

With the Dems owning Congress since 2006 and Bush acting like a Fiscal liberal, we were run into a ditch. Obama is Fiscal Bush on Crank and we need a change in direction.

VP Biden continues to use the term "tax cuts for the wealthy". But, I've read several articles that say we'll all be paying more if the tax cuts are left to expire.

Is it just the wealthy who benefit? Or do most Americans benefit from those tax cuts? Which is true?

I know that if the tax cuts expire, SOMETHING will change. And if I pay more taxes after they expire, I'll know who lied.

Oh please. Biden & Co. have proven time and again they don't give a rat's rear end what the American people want. What a joke.
