Michigan 'Tea Party' group a fraud?

(CNN) - A group looking to brand itself as a political party in Michigan – going by the name of "The Tea Party" - is facing widespread criticism from Republicans and tea party activists, who accuse the group of fraud and deception.

Their main argument: They are a front for the Democratic Party, and are trying to siphon away votes from Republicans and genuine tea party-backed candidates this November.

On Monday, the Michigan State Canvassing Board voted against giving the group political party status after listening to testimony from witnesses questioning the group's intentions and the validity of the signatures they collected on petitions.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Oakland County Clerk Ruth Johnson told the board that nomination documents for one Tea Party candidate for the county commission were a "straightforward fraud."

Johnson, a Republican, has also asked for a criminal investigation of Jason Bauer, an Oakland County Democratic Party official who, she said, "notarized at least nine Tea Party candidate affidavits, including one who told her office his signature had been forged," according to the paper.

The Oakland County Democratic Party Executive Board said in a statement on its website that it was "saddened" by the situation, but "cannot condone his alleged actions. For the sake of the organization, we must part ways effective immediately."

CNN reached out to the Oakland County Democratic Party for a comment, and is awaiting a call back.
The move on Monday, though, has not stopped the group from moving forward.

Attorney John Pirich, who said he represented the Tea Party group, filed an appeal with the Michigan Court of Appeals Tuesday, a court clerk told CNN.

If they were all white, racist and loud mouthed fat men then they truly were members of "The White Annoying Teabagger" party. Ruth Johnson fits that bill.

Democrats can't have a "Tea Party" just like Republicans, what's up with that.

Why are democrats hypocrites? Because they embrace this sort of lowdown, dirty politics. Had the shoe been on the other foot, you'd never hear the end of it from leftwing lunatic bloggers and the lamestream media. Anything is OK, so long as it promotes their agenda. To them, the ends justify the means.
That's why they are fast becoming the American Taliban.

Hey genius, the shoe IS on the other foot a la the "original" Teatard nonsense. Get a clue. Two wrongs don't make a right, it's true, but pretending that the "original" Tealiban wasn't a GOP shill/proxy organization is just plain old retarded.

Anyone who takes the time to read the various posts on this blog will easily see two things: Firstly, the Democrats (liberals) who post on this board do not address the issue and secondly their method of commenting on this article is to use sarcastic, hateful and derogatory comments. The Democrats spend most of their time rationalizing and trying to justify the poorly thought out and totally ineffective laws that they have forced on the American people. They are so intent on justifying their position that they WILL NOT LISTEN to what Americans are saying. When someone proposes an idea that does not exactly conform to their thoughts on the subject they become so intent on formulating a response that they don't hear what the other person is saying. That's also why they resort to whatever dirty tricks come to mind. It is the last refuge, next to violence, left to the incompetent.

  17. Aren't they all corrupt

Anyone that says that one party is more trustworthy than the other is completely wrong. While people may get into politics to make a difference in the end they are just corrupted by a twisted and backward group of people that are so focused on maintaining power that they forget why they wanted to be there in the first place.

I don't trust either party. This type of crap is done by both Democrat and Republican. The problem with America today is not that the Dems are in control or that the Repubs got us in this mess it's that you can't take anyones word any longer, they are all corrupt.
