Biden touts stimulus during New Hampshire visit

Vice President Joe Biden was on the road in New Hampshire Thursday.

(CNN) - Vice President Joe Biden took the administration's defense of its controversial $862 billion stimulus plan to New Hampshire Thursday, touting the program's investment in making houses more energy efficient.

Biden visited a house in Manchester, according to a White House, to mark "the weatherizing of 200,000 homes under the Recovery Act."

The vice president was joined by New Hampshire's two Democratic House members, both of whom face challenges at the polls in November.

Obama officials say their goal is to weatherize nearly 600,000 homes by March 2012 with stimulus act funds, noting in a statement the program includes a $90 billion investment "in clean energy and energy-efficiency projects that cut costs, reduce energy use and create new jobs."

Among other things, Biden characterized the expenditure as a "down payment" on a more efficient 21st century economy. He also cast it as necessary for national security.

"Unless we fundamentally reduce our dependence" on foreign oil, he said, "we're going to be in a (situation) where the very guys who are shooting at us are the very guys we're pouring $350 billion a year into (in) the sands of Saudi Arabia ... and the jungles of Venezuela."

The stimulus was passed by Congress early last year in a vote that was mostly along party lines. Republicans have repeatedly criticized the measure for failing to sufficiently create jobs and pump up the economy.

"Joe Biden is either oblivious or in denial of the damaging impact the Democrats' policies are having on the economy," says Republican National Committee spokeswoman Katie Wright.

Democratic Reps. Paul Hodes and Carol Shea-Porter joined Biden at the event. Rather than run for re-election, Hodes is bidding for the state's open Senate seat, currently held by retiring Republican Sen. Judd Gregg, and is his party's presumptive Senate nominee.

Shea-Porter is running for re-election. Thanks in part to the tough political climate facing incumbents and Democrats, analysts say both Hodes and Shea-Porter face difficult elections.

Biden is expected to return to New Hampshire late next month to help raise campaign funds for both representatives.

Genius Joe is the gift the keeps on giving. He only uses that pie hole for eating, lying or doing both simultaneously.

Thanks Joe! Anyone who is willing to think and do a little research would learn that without the Obama Stimulus our nation would have slipped into a depression! Which would be 25% unemployment as in 1932.

About housing, 15 years ago we had a 27% drop in sales of existing homes.

In 1981 & 1982 when Reagan was president we had the Twin Recessions, that lasted until 1983. Reagan blamed Carter all 8 years!

    In 1983, the U.S. unemployment number was.......10%.

We have been here before folks, and we have overcome. Fear does not help. Wake up America! Do not be fooled by the GOP lies.

OK. Let's hear it. Although the CBO says the stimulus saved 3.3 million jobs, and unemployment would be 1.8% higher without it, let's hear about how the stimulus hasn't created jobs.

And weatherizing homes? How un-American can you get? Surely you know (at least if you are an enlightened neocon) that weatherizing homes will kill jobs!

I'm so glad we went with the smart team this time!

Team Obama cheerlead their stimulus "success" is like Colonel Sanders talking about his chicken outreach program.

Regarding jobs, growth and prosperity, Team Obama has proven to become "King Midas in Reverse."

Are you better off now than you were four years ago when Democrats took over congress?

If you think it's an "achievement" to turn 5.6 percent unemployment (2006) into 10 percent unemployment (by Christmas 2010), then you know who to vote for.

I am a Democrat but I am quickly losing faith we will hold on. I can not understand why we still have Joe Biden out on the trail with the "Summer of Recoveryr" . People aren't stupid we are in trouble. Continuing to put Biden out there is just adding fuel to the fire. Maybe we do need this wake up call. I really hate to see us lose control because we have squandered the advantage we had. Unreal.

"Joe Biden is either oblivious or in denial of the damaging impact the Democrats' policies are having on the economy,"

Right. Your party drove us to the brink of anthother depression. Even the most obtuse president ever realized how dire things were when bush proposed TARP.

Job growth, while slower than anybody wants, is back under Obama. We were losing 750k jobs a month when w left office, now we're adding jobs.

And to the neocon moron posters, the Democrats regained control of the house in 2007, the senate in 2009. It is nothing but plain ignorance or dishonesty to blame this recession (that started in March of 2007) on anything but the reckless actions of Republicans who controlled congress and the white house from 2001-2007. Trickle down economics is just as Bush I said it was . . . voodoo economics. Proven by anemic performance under Reagan/Bush I, and disaster under Bush II. Out of control spending happened on Reagan and Bush II's watch. Clinton and the '92 democrats fixed it. Obama is spending now because all the educated economists in the country tell us that this is the way to fix the economy.

But then, you neocons celebrate ignorance and worship opinions dragged out of Limbaugh's butt.

So let me get this straight...The Democrats have controlled both houses of Congress for the past three years AND the White House for the past two years....But the current dreadful economy, historically high national debt load, historically high government spending levels, brutally high current unemployment, increasingly poor race/religious relations and looming nuclear Iran are Bush and the Republicans' fault? Spare me ! Every major initiative by Obama and the Democrats has been unpopular by all polling accounts. Where is the leadership? Clearly Obamanation is not the nation most Americans want or need right now. Thank goodness.

Does Biden have any clue about how he is being used by Obama.
He looks, acts, and talks more stupidly everytime he comes out and touts the well known failed stimulus money. We live in Colorado where things don't seem to be as bad as elsewhere, but we are averaging 1 family a month walking away from their house. Things are as bad if not worse than 1 year ago.

I am so sick and tired of hearing and reading about this so-called "stimulus." GOVERNMENT cannot not stimulate the growth of prosperity through spending. Only the private sector can do that. Government can only FACILITATE the private sector's ability to do so through lower taxes and business-friendly legal and regulatory policies. All of these jobs are temporary and will dry up along with the money. Calling this 700 billion dollar government SPENDING SPREE a stimulus is like maxing out all your credit cards and trying to convince yourself that you're rich. IT HAS TO BE PAID BACK.

Here is the tricky part Joe! to convince the 72% of the public without high school diploma that, the stimulus is working! because they don't understand nor know no numbers! they get their news (talking points) from fix news and the other king of idiots known as Rush!!. Sincerely Joe you have a helluva work to do. Simply put the right wing is good at distorting facts and knocking off Democrats from the main message!.

Before you start calling people derogatory names, you might want to check your facts. The Democrats took control of the House and Senate in January 2007 and added significantly to their majorities in January 2009.

Give it up, Joe. Everytime you come out with your cheerleader routine, it just reminds us of how oblivious and out of touch with reality you truly are. The economy is not getting better, the stimulus didn't stimulate, and you guys have mad a mess of things. In short, you're a blithering idiot.

I see the Dow fell below 10K, so much for the stimulus inspiring confidence in job creation. Who are they trying to fool? Is anyone still showing up to his press conferences? Why?

How to you gloat about a STIMULUS bill that has done very little, been full of wasteful spending, and is nothing more than a GOVT SPENDING bill that has driven up the DEFICIT.

Let me review all this HOPE AND CHANGE crap:

    Increased DEFICIT

Jeez, where were all you deficit hawks when the GOBP was in power? Since you're so concerned, though, I'm glad you support allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire on the top 3%. It's not like those people have created any jobs recently.

The more Biden and Obama keep telling the American people how great the stimulus has worked the more they expose how stupied they are and how stupid they think Americans are.
The economy is on the verge of a double dip recession and may already be in one. No private sector jobs have been created since the stimulus was passed just millions lost. Governement jobs have grown though along with goverment and spending and the deficts. Thats all the stimulus has stimulated.
Obama and Biden insult the intelegence of the American people with there endless campaign propoganda. The nation is over 2 trillion dollars deeper in debt since the stimuls was passed, unemployment is up and we are looking at a very real possiblity of a double dip recession. Thats the reality not the Obama/'Biden fantasy, or if you rally think Obama is intellegent, the Obama/Bidne lies.

What could have happened without the stimulus...disaster. The strategy of conservatives was to allow GM, Ford, and Chrysler to fail if they couldn't succeed through an economic failure they didn't create. DC created it, and they gave themselves a raise while at the same time told seniors, sorry the cost of living hasn't increased. Maybe math is different in the world of DC politics than it is in the real world.

So the economy is good? – No it's not. It can be better and (hopefully) it WILL be better... BUT... Could you please remind us the DOW numbers at the time of Barack Obama's inauguration? Somewhere around 6K... or was it 7K?

Fan of Common Sense – Or 'Fan of Reaganomics'? Dude, even those who are AGAINST the involvement of the government in the economy on the level it has been done since Bush last three months, EVEN THOSE, do agree that IT HAS TO BE DONE.
And it's not a belief nor an 'I think so...' kind of theory, it's backed up with numbers and more numbers which came from reliable and INDEPENDENT sources.
'Trickle down economics' did not worked dude, get over it.
