Prodigal sun returns to Martha's Vineyard, just in time for Obama

President Obama enjoying a round of golf.

President Obama enjoying a round of golf.

Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts (CNN) - After days of heavy rains and high winds, sunshine finally returned to Martha's Vineyard Thursday.

The ground was still a bit soggy, but for the vacationing President it was perfect weather to hit the links.

Obama teed off at Farm Neck Golf Club in Oak Bluffs with close friends Eric Whitaker, Cyrus Walker, and White House trip director Marvin Nicholson.

At one point during the round, after Nicholson appeared to make a good putt, he and the President engaged in a playful fist pump.

As the first family winds down its 10-day getaway to the island, it is clear golf has dominated the President's vacation agenda.

It's an undisputed hole in one and a swing above the rest, so to speak.

By CNN's on site stopwatch, Obama has spent 15 hours on the golf course. That's compared to 6 hours over dinner and lunch at restaurants like Nancy's and The Sweet Life Café, 4 hours at a picnic with the family on a private beach, and just 25 minutes shopping with his daughters at the bookstore Bunch of Grapes in Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts.

There's still time to throw in more public outings before the Obama's depart the island on Sunday, but It's hard to imagine golf sliding from its lofty ranking.

Even with the President's golf obsession and several washout island days, the first family is still smiling.

"Yeah they're having a great time," said White House Deputy Spokesman Bill Burton, "they're having a really good time."

Remember when Dems would have hysterical hissy-fits everytime that Bush played golf? Of course, after Obama played more golf in his first 14 months as president than Bush did in 8 years, the mainstream media and many Dem supporters stopped bringing up the subject of presidents & golf...I wonder why?

Round #48...forget the economy and blame Bush, right?

While economy and jobs go down the toilet, again the comic in chief plays golf. The stock market closes below 10,000 and nobummer plays golf. There are national security problems and the idiot in chief plays golf. Six(6) vacations in eight(8) weeks. If this was a Republican President, the liberal left loons would be going nuts but being as it is their messiah, they give him a pass.

I’ve grown so tired of hearing about the King and Queen’s “let them eat cake” style vacation. The only good news is that he tends not to screw us over so much while he’s gone. In fact, Mr. President you’ve worked hard, stay on vacation until November.

The President has great work ethic. He has done so much to help rebuild this nation. I am glad he has taken a much deserved vacation.

@BUSTER and all you people who criticize and do not realize bush was doing the same thing while our service members were dying for a lame war he started, YOU'RE THE IDIOT.

The hatred in the country is amazing. I am so disappointed because I foolishly thought we had made alot of progress in the past 50 years. Clearly we have not...

The economy continues to go in the tank, Dow below 10K again, high unemployment, foreclosures, low home sales, consumer confidence, a trillion dollars wasted going to unions and leftist organizaitions as payback, and this union toady dummy is out enjoying another vacation while he send out that idiot Biden to talk about how good things are.

Sgt Jarhead – if you think he's done ANYTHING to rebuild this country...well, obviously, you're no Marine at all....and BABY BOOMER...Hatred? Why? Because we simply want this facade to do his job? Wow...anyone, anywhere else, would have been fired for negligence...but, after all what do you expect? Obama had less leadership experience than some pimply-faced 19 yr old running a shift at Micky-D's. Obama deserves every bit of the criticism he gets; he's contributed to the decline of this once great nation and made it difficult for our children to have viable futures. He's worthless

Buster and Flipper, you are clearly two 'nads from the same sac.

The problem with Bush was that he was "on vacation", even on those rare occasions he was in the whitehouse, leaving Darth Cheney to run things. This leaves me to wonder where YOUR bemuddled idiot-in-charge was when he really was on vacation. I like how you mindlessly deflect Bush's name onto are a real neo-wit.

Obama has helped this country immensely, given that Bush and the rest of you neo-gonads were steering it into a depression. After 8 long years backpeddeling into the Dark Ages, the country has finally emerged into the 21st century. Cry me a river, you rightwing drama queens!

Yes, Obama is a Vacation-in-Chief and Golf-Playing-in-Chief, not a Job-Creator or Saver, nor a Commender-in-Chief either! Just as Letterman said rightly so, Obama can spend any vacation time eating his lobsters at luxury dinners, playing golf all days, and staying in rich liberal Martha's backyard as much as he can after the one-term over. Obama is just completely ignoring the enomerous sufferings of every common American during this difficult times.

It's so ironic. All these Republican'ts screaming about President Obama playing golf. How soon they forget how much their hero George Bush took vacations. But that's ok, I guess...

People want this particular President (and First Lady) to behave like greatful slaves. Just damn happy to be here. Sorry folks but slavery was abolished in this country years ago. This first family is entitled (yes I said entitled) to the same things all former white Presidents (and First Ladies) were. Presidents in this country have played golf during wars, recessions, high unemployment, etc. Please don't act like this is something new. The only thing new here is... I really don't even have to say it. Grow the hell up people.

What's the big fuss about Pres. Obama vacationing. With all he's had to deal with, he deserves it. Wonder if he's sneaking a puff on a cigarette too!

The President came into office with an agenda and has worked tirelessly on that agenda. He is responsible for passing one of the most sweeping overhauls by changing the healthcare system in this country, which, will be looked back upon as a great turning point in our history, and all people can do is complain the Guy's taking a vacation. If he didn't golf, you'd complain that he isn't green enough. If he didn't vacation, he wouldn't be "family" enough. Cut the man a break – he inherited a mess. Change takes time....and like it or not, he's bringing change....slowly but surely! Not to mention his fundraising prowess is unmatched!

Mr. President, you have done more for this country than any recent chief executive. You have worked quietly and incessantly despite the hate-filled criticism of many of those whom you've helped. So many people only complain and blame and don't take responsibility for their problems. You rolled up your sleeves and found solutions. You could have followed a career with a huge corporation and become fabulously wealthy. Instead, you chose to work to turn this country around and to save the middle class, which the previous administration did its best to destroy. You need and deserve a vacation. You really deserve more than ten days off. But you are so conscientious that you'll be back at work next Monday. I hope that now that we've ensured health care for most Americans, we can now improve our pitiful education system. Maybe then, more citizens will learn to create solutions rather than blame and complain.

awaitingliberalizationbyCNN, glad to see FuxNews gave you your vacuous talking points today. You can cross off your little list of prissy "things to do", the act of parroting the drivel you hear from your worshiped gods....maybe they'll give you a 'star' for being a good little lemming.

You make lots of accusations, but have no documentation. Typical righwinger - full of wind, no substance....especially between the ears.

Your baseless drive-by rants against Obama and the [D]s are comical, except for the fact that you and the rest of your fellow neo-tards are a drag on this country's progress. Bin Laden is probably looking to pin a star on you too, for your efforts.

Oh Flipper, what wondering where you get your numbers or like everything else you say just make them up to suit your purpose. Is all you have to do is worry about who takes what vacation? As long as it is of great concern to you, let's do this. Let's pass regulations that would limit and restrict the pay and vacation time that corporate executives can make and take. After all, most of the bank executives were playing golf and yachting all the time while their companies were gambled into the ground. But there is okay because they played "Mickey the Dunce" and you got to bail them out with YOUR taxpayer dollars and they still kept their HUGE bonuses. However, from your tone, I doubt you helped bail them out because I am sure you are one of the rich guys who pay no taxes.

Yes we will, blame bush because he was the one who messed up this country. You people need to regain your memory. I know what you people are trying to do. Your trying to put this on President Obama because the country is embarrassed because a white president drove this country in a ditch and left it for dead.

President Obama has done a lot to get the economy moving, we already know it takes more than a snap of the finger. WTG President Obama

And I'm tired of people saying Martha's Vineyard is this ritzy vacation luxury hot spot. Me and my family spend a week there every summer....a four bedroom house, in Edgartown for 7 nights costs only $2,500. A pretty cheap vacation if you ask me!

This has to be devastating times for democrats. For 40 years democrats have chirped incessantly about the potential greatness of their loony ideas. If only republicans would get out of their way then, by golly, they will make the world a paradise. Well, they got their wish in 2008 when Barry Obama, the community organizer and one of their own got elected. And now they are realizing what an utter failure Barry and their loony democrat ideas are. How do they explain this(blame Bush)? Where can they go from here? It must be difficult to realize that everything you've ever believed is false. Heckuva job, Barry!
