Dems launch get out the vote campaign

Two major Democratic groups launched a joint massive get out the vote campaign on Saturday.
Two major Democratic groups launched a joint massive get out the vote campaign on Saturday.

(Updated at 3:35 p.m. ET with additional information)

(CNN) - Two major Democratic committees jointly launched their first nationwide get out the vote initiative of the fall campaign season on Saturday.

The Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee set a goal of knocking on 400,000 doors (200,000 for each committee) in 75 congressional districts as part of their "National Day of Action."

"This level of voter contact this early is unprecedented," DCCC chairman Chris Van Hollen said in a statement. "We will continue to meet with voters face to face and spread the message about moving the country forward."

House Democrats are poised to lose 35-45 seats this fall, according to the non-partisan Cook Political Report. The Rothenberg Political Report, another well respected non-partisan political handicapper, predicts a loss of 28-33 seats. If Republicans take control of 39 Democratic seats, they will take the majority for the first time since 2006.

While not holding a similar event this weekend, the Republican National Committee says it's busy as well with get out the vote efforts.

The RNC tells CNN they've been holding "Super Saturdays," which are similar efforts, but are held on a state by state basis. The RNC also says that the structure of their grassroots apparatus continues to grow as the calendar moves closer to the midterm elections.

In a separate effort that is not affiliated with the Republican Party, the conservative American Crossroads PAC announced Friday a $10 million effort dubbed "MOVERS – Mobilizing Our Voters to End Reckless Spending."

The MOVERS program will target Republican and independent voters in eight states, according the PAC's press release. Voters will be contacted through mail and by phone.

"We have an unprecedented opportunity to restore balance and fiscal responsibility to Washington this fall," said the president and CEO of American Crossroads, Steven Law. "To do that, American Crossroads will conduct an intensive turnout effort and work closely with other independent partners on mobilizing our voters to end reckless spending."

The arrogance and massive corrupt spending of the Democrats has failed. The only think that can reverse the decline of our nation is going to the polls in Nov and firing every Democrat on the ballot!

Something is very wrong here in Texas, all our voting machines have been destroyed due to fire, the current Gov. Rick Perry won't hold a debate with challenger Bill White, Rick Perry has a secret army of his own and nobody knows what they are doing or whose paying them. Something is very wrong here in Texas.

This is a great move, republicans have a lot of enthusiasm but they don't have the ground game dems have.

Martin Luther King would be proud today of Glenn Beck and his gathering at the Lincoln Memorial. For the first time in my life, Glenn Beck taught me who MLK really was and what he stood for. A man of peace, equality for all. There was no hate, only love and understanding for all at this rally. Al Sharpton and all of those who claim to honor what MLK stood for, should have been at Glenn Beck's gathering. God Bless America, God Bless us all and may he show his mercy on us as we go thru these difficult times together and we will come out better people together.

With Beck, Palin, Angle and the other loonies representing the right, I do think Democrats will be very motivated to vote this fall and make sure that Obama has the opportunity to reclaim this country from the folks who want no progress, and in fact, would to to see the country regress to about 1960. We refuse to stop working for what is right for America. No seat will be lost without a fight, and we do not need the threat of armed resurrection behind us.

Yes get out and vote...but please vote AGAINST the Democrats. No more big government, controling government, burdensome regulation, higher taxes, bigger deficits....we need everyone to vote to save this country.....this is not the hope and change that we were promised. Pelosi has to go, Reid has to go and in 2012 we have to vote Obama out too.

What will the Republican message be? Do they have one other than bashing the Democrats or filling their lackeys with fear?

After the historic achievements of Obama and the Democrats, there should not be one single seat lost to the people who made the mess the country is in now. how stupid and brainwashed does someone need to be to want to vote back incompetence, reckless spending on illegal wars, the shredding of the Constitution, and just plain pure hate of anyone different. the republican party is now the party of utter failure. it's a historical fact that the country always does better under Democrats. that's why every time a Democratic administration comes in, it has a mess to clean up. how many times do we have to elect the mess-makers before we learn our lesson???

Republicans won't get control back. People are disapointed with Democrats because the didn't get enough done, but they really hate Republicans because they are the cause of why not much got done.
The "Party of no" is diseased with Religous Kooks no different from the Religous Kooks in the Taliban.

I hope to buckfee the democrats get out the vote. So far, the GOTea has said: a. their victory is inevitable; b. then they will end everything that might help those of us "lucky ducks" who have become too impoverished to pay income taxes (though everyone pays sales, gas, and "sin" taxes) survive; c. they intend to conduct a witch hunt into everyone who ever opposed them politically; d. they intend to repeal inconvenient parts of the First, Fourth, Fifth, Fourteenth, Sixteenth, and Seventeenth Amendments, or else just construe them away, and then they will "unlesh the free market" to do whatever it likes. Don't rely on the power of the veto to check them, either, because if anything happened to the President and Vice President, the White House would be occupied by the Orannge Man. Gruesome? Then get out there and keep it from happening!

...get out and vote for anyone but an incumbent democrat.

Democrats are the bozos that 1) increased healthcare costs by forcing through obamacare (which never addressed actual healthcare costs), 2) increased the costs of using banks with financial 'reform' (which didn't address the reason we are in our financial mess–Freddie/Fannie and low income housing loans–not to mention Barney Frank and Chris Dodd), and wasted a trillion dollars on 'stimulus' spending - that everyone with a brain knows didn't work.

Don't vote for the party of "YES TO EVERYTHING!"

And how many illegals will be registering for the democrats since you don't have to show that you are an American citizen to vote but by God you need to prove you are one when you get your driver license go figure. But the Dems need all the illegals to vote for them that is how obama got elected and i saw it first hand when i went to vote for the presidents there were so many people in the room that never voted before and couldn't speak english they were from africa and mexico.

Sorry about mispellings of "unleash" and "orange". It's difficult to type coorectly on a tiny QWERTY keyboard when your hands are stuck together with Bombay Mahogany varnish, though I may have meant to refer to John Boehner as an orangutan instead of an orangetan.

I hope both parties work on this too many time Americans complain about politicians and policy and they didn't even vote. If you don't vote and you aren't happy with what is going on in washington, state, county, or city level, then don't complain if you don't like the direction. You gave up your right to complain when you didn't weigh in by participating in your greatest American right, being able to vote.
