Clear majority says Palin not qualified to be president

A new poll shows only 1 in 4 Americans believe Sarah Palin is qualified to be president.
A new poll shows only 1 in 4 Americans believe Sarah Palin is qualified to be president.

(CNN) - Two days after Sarah Palin fired up a large crowd at Glenn Beck's Restoring Honor rally in Washington, a newly released survey suggests a clear majority of Americans don't think the former vice presidential nominee has the right credentials to be president.

According to the new survey from Vanity Fair and CBS News' 60 Minutes, only 1 in 4 of all adults thinks Palin is qualified to be commander-in-chief while 60 percent say she is not.

By a narrow 47-40 percent margin however, Republicans do feel Palin has the right stuff to be president. But self identified conservatives – constituting the segment of the GOP largely thought to most favor the former Alaska governor – are essentially split 41-40 percent on her abilities to govern the country.

What may also be troubling for the former Alaska governor if she finds herself in a general election matchup, 3 in 5 independent voters don't think Palin is qualified while only 21 percent do. Among moderates, the numbers are even worse with 70 percent reporting they lack confidence in Palin.

Predictably, the numbers are most dire for the former vice presidential nominee among self-identified Democrats: 3 in 4 say Palin isn't up to the responsibilities of the Oval Office.

The survey, conducted by CBS News between August 3-5, surveyed 847 U.S. adults by telephone.

I am shocked that Americans do not like QUITTERS!
Anyone that quits elected office to pursue money never deserves elected office again. That is what Palin did to Alaskans.

Her whole schtick lately seems to be about how she's so super-holy and so ultra-patriotic, unlike some other people who we won't actually name. This kind of empty posturing appeals to a certain group of ignorant people who the rest of us usually ignore. Hopefully we will be able to continue to ignore them.

Let's see if I've got this formula right....

Presidential approval poll dips to an all-time low in the mid-40's. Glen Beck puts together an extremely successful, peaceful rally on the Mall in Washington DC that has even won the praises of Independents and Democrats who were in attendance. Bad economic news comes out late last week indicating that we are headed for a double-dip recession. Democrats are 10 short weeks away from losing control of both the house and senate.

CNN's answer? Put up an anti-Palin story to get their liberal base riled up and divert attention from all their bad news from the weekend.

    Did I get that right?

After reading this item, I still can't discern if Republicans think Palin is qualified or not, because that's the only segment of nuts who would vote for her anyways and I can't tell which side the wind is blowing. As far as I am concerned, yes, I don't think she is NOT qualified to be president.

She is really much more qualified than a community organizer or a hair plugged idiot that can't control his lying mouth, but unfortunately she has been so degraded and demonized by the state run media and liberals (like CNN, NBC, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NYT and WashPost) that most people believe the caricature that they have created rather than the real person. That sexist, racist attitude of the liberals is of course horrible, but it has created an opportunity for someone else to capture the soul of the real hardworking, taxpaying American citizens who accept personal responsibility for their lives, especially when that person can be contrasted against the corrupt, inept, union toady that is currently the president and the darling of the liberal controlled media.

Yeah Sarah is not qualified to be President....

But the Palin movement is a very important one for our country. We need lower taxes, lower deficits and smaller government. We need to better educate our children and make them LESS dependent on government. We need to stop programs that take money from our hardest working Americans and gives free stuff to the laziest Americans. This reinforces bad behavior and dependence on the government. We need to all work more, pay some taxes, save more and donate to charitable organizations voluntarily, not through government taxes!!

Yes Sarah is not ready to be President but yes Sarah is an important non-presidential leader for our country.

1 in 4 who feel she is qualified is the same number of uninformed who make up the birther movement. Talking to them is like trying to reason with barnyard animals. Those who voted for "W" in 2000 thought he would be the one to invite to an outdoor barbecue, not realizing there was more to being president than being folksy.

She displayed her lack of cerebral flux and fortitude when she walked out mid term in her elected capacity as governor of that vast land known as AK to pursue more loftier endeavors such as enriching her personal coffers at the expense of the gullible.

People have finally realized that Palin and Co are strictly renowned for entertainment and not political capitol.

She couldn't even finish her term as governor of Alaska. And she quit that job for one of two reasons:

    1. She saw her chance to make a TON of money and took it

    2. She caved in to her political enemies who were filing tons of lawsuits against her.

Either way, she has shown that she either cannot hack the pressure of high office, or is easily swayed by money. Is this someone we want to lead the country?

Doh! This is new? As much as I can't stand another twit or facebook ramblings from the half term governor she has shown why she is unqualified to be but an empty vessel for the rethugs.
She has had a comment about anything and everything she knows NOTHING about and she has been wrong 99.9% of the time. All that she has emphasized is how stupid and clueless she is. Now that we know what an airhead she is how about less of her. As a matter of fact, how aboupt no more of her. Her fifteenminutes of fame were over months ago.
BTW – I hear (didn't watch one second of the I hate every one during the week, but let's join our hands with God on 8/28 litanny) that she mentioned her son was in the Army but she forgot to mention that it was either that or jail in Wasilla while she was governor no less). BTW – where is this son? Taking care of the special needs child because she sure isn't doing so.

I think the only reason the GOP have Palin on the team is to secure the whack job portion of their party. If she does square off with the other GOP contenders in the run off she would be vanquished pretty quickly as she does not have the credentials or knowledge to have any long term credibility. Then again Dubya the Decider was elected twice so its hard to predict with 100% certainty what could happen in the land of the free and the home of the weird as Mama Grizzlies and Joe the Plumbers are the most stupid as well as the most abundant of the species. Duh!......is all I can say to that. The scary part is the segment that believes this person is qualified. Scarier still is that McCain believed it was worth rolling the dice for in a last gasp attempt to ascend to the presidency. He was willing to risk all our fates by having her on the ticket. And, by so doing, cast onto the national stage one who otherwise would still be unknown to us and whom, I am afraid, will haunt us for the next ten years............ How did this person get elected to office in Alaska? Answer: The media (television, radio, internet, and the corporated led news people), rammed this idiot down the publics throat, day in and day out, until the idiot got elected. If you really dont care for your situation, and you believe the political landscape is somewhat littered with people who look out for their own interest, before considering your own, you can partially blame your (so called), liberal media. That is actually taking marching orders from the conservative(s), in the boardrooms of major corporations. WAKE-UP people. Surely you can not be so ignorant as to not see what is actually happening, as opposed to what you are told is happening.

Bad news for Palin is good news for the country. Thank God the ones who can recognize the simple fact that Palin is in no way qualified to be president far outnumber the ones lapping up her Kool-Aid. the bad news for the country is that some of those folks who recognize her lack of ability seem to think some other republican't would make a good president. how many times does history have to prove that wrong? republicans don't want to govern, they want to rule, for their benefit only. hope there are enough sane, thoughful people voting in November to prevent the horrific scenario of a repug takeover of even one house of government. the country is finally on the road to recovery from the last repug regime. don't send it back into the ditch, or over the cliff!

This poll is not surpising, when you consider the negative press she recieves. Katie Couric introduced her audiance to gov. Palin as a " moose burger eating beauty queen". No mention of her record. Brain Williams introduced her as a saying she banded books. Not true.

Now she can go to ANWR and expose the lie that it is not suitable for drilling. What does the media cover on the same day? Levi. Time and time again the media will ignore substance, if favor of ridiculing her and her children. Palin herself has said she would not vote for herself if he believed the things in the media.

All four candidates made gaffes during the 08 election, only Ms. Palin was held to a double standard. Pres. Obama says there are 57 states. Not covered. He misspells Syracuse while filling out hid brackets for the Final Four basketball tourney.. Also not covered.

I wouldn't trust Palin to babysit an ant farm, much less govern a country. She consistently repeats things that are not true, and that either means that she's a liar, or that she has poor judgement when it comes to understand what's true or not. Neither is an acceptible trait in a leader. And she's proven to put self before service: when she saw a way to make more money on the lecture circuit, she ditched the job she'd sworn to do in Alaska. Service to the people means NOTHING to her.

The Republican Party has lost all credibility by making a "star" out of such a ludicrous person. If she's a standout among their party, then they're a poor party indeed. They've become a radicalized theocratic party, and since theocracy has ruined every country that ever adopted it, there's no way I'll ever vote Republican again. I'm not crazy about the Democrats, but they're the only choice left for a moderate in this country.

Overall, the vast majority of all Americans know that Sarah Palin lacks the requisite skills and abilities to be President of the United States. No one quits an executive position on the state or local level and then aspires to seriously assume higher executive office on the federal level. Sarah palin abruptly quit the Alaskan governorship for no good reason and is now acting like a presidential candidate. This is crazy and is a recipe for electoral failure. Palin is not credible and is unelectable. In American politics, no one gets a second chance to make a first impression and Sarah Palin is definitely no exception. I was expecting this from the gay/commies of the LSM; a day after Palin showed to anyone with a brain bigger than a peanut, and with an IQ in the triple digits who she really is, the commies-nazis of the "media" came up with thash of a poll.

That's what soviet type mis-information is all about: LIES.

Sarah Palin is not qualified to be President. I'm a Republican and I know that. I would sit out the election if she were the nominee. But she won't be so it's a moot point.

Apart from whether or not Palin is "qualified" to become president - whatever that definition is to people on some personal level - with whom are they comparing her qualifications? Obama?? She's far more "qualified" than he is, on a number of objective levels, so it's rather amusing to find her wanting, if Obama is the competition.

    Those Republicans (or anyone else) who think SP should be President should have their heads checked. Is it because she is a woman? Then pick Mrs. Clinton. {I would pay money to see them debate just once. Hil would bounce her right of the stage.}

People just can't see the truth – she is NOT good for this country. She is a quitter, self-centered, and not one to every think on a national or global scale. She can't speak with any amount of intelligence and on top of that I have not heard ONE idea that is worth merit. She would be an embarrasment for this country at any summit or conference of world leaders.

There are more qualified people that can be elected that will serve our country, our citizens, and represent us to the world. Cue Barak Obama!!!!!!!!!

It will be a very sad day if this Ditz every gets elected to an office again. Because that term would never be fulfilled as she would quit that to.

No amount of Tea Party mob fantasies or GOP propaganda can change Palin from the unqualified for any office opportunist into an educated candidate capable of looking beyond her own ego-centric position.

She will always remain bigotted, a religioius fundamentalist, poorly educated, lacking any ethical position, and willing to use her children as campaign props. She lacks the personal courage and honor to finish her terms of office.

It sure is a good thing you all keep putting up the story after story about Palin – she gets way more coverage here than on any "right-wing" channel. And it's a good thing we've got CBS – the Obama channel – creating one fake poll after another. Maybe everybody does hate Palin, however, citing CBS polls is no way to prove anything.

Do you really believe anybody who isn't happy that Obama and friends stole your grandmother's medicare to give to their greedy, fat, rich backers (in the name of progress – no less) loves Sarah Palin? Do you really?

Sarah Palin is petty and vindictive as shown by backing the rival of the sitting Senator from Alaska. It was reported that she and the lady senator were not on good terms for years. What kind of president would she be if she went after every person in the government that had opposed her? Thank God that enough other Americans view her in the same way. That's really unfortunate that so many people do not properly understand the qualifications of President set forth by the Constitution. Article II Section I states the only qualifications are the person must be a natural born citizen, 35 years of age and lived in the US at least 14 years. Palin meets these qualifications. But just because someone is qualified doesn't mean they'ed do the job well. And it is my personal opinion that Palin would not do the job well.

She's not and you cannot distort who she is to everyone. More and more people are doing what I did. Which is, our own research. Palin is far above the other possible candidates in character and record.

Does it ever occur to anyone who reads this site, why is CNN so invested in what Sarah Palin does or does not do and why do they always publish polls, no matter how questionable, to try and diminsh her? She is not a public office holder. She is not a candidate for office. She is a private citizen who happens to be politically active. So the question arises, why does this network seem to be obsessed with her? If she is such an non-entity as they claim, why do they hang on her every word and deed? Could it be that they do have an iron in this fire about whether she becomes President or not? Why are they so concerned? What is their bottom line in all this? Think about that folks! When you can't figure something out, look for the vested interest in the matter and obviously CNN for whatever personal agenda is deeply invested in trying to marginalize her. Think about it and ask youself why? Just why? Hmmm! As the Good Book says, "The guilty fleeth when no man (or woman in this case) pursuith!"Hmmm!

The American people are tired of the "politi-speak" coming from Washington and yearn for someone to just tell it like it is. Sarah Palin may or may not make a good president in 2012 (if she runs), but the real change must take place in Congress. Congress is the only body in our system that can make laws and change policy. As Obama found out with the healthcare bill, you have to have the 535 members on your side to get anything done. The point is the mid-term elections in two months are the most important measure of confidence in the current administration, or not, than a poll about a possible 2012 contender.

What is the media's infactuation with Sarah Palin? The media HATES her and I don't exactly know why. She is NOT running for president but even if she did should only 1 out of 4 think she is qualified to be president she is not too far behind our current president Barack Hussein Obama. Right now not much more than 35% believe Obama is qualified to be president!!

Should Sarah Palin DECIDE to run for president THEN that statistic is relevant. However, the media should be MORE concerned with the CURRENT president and deciding if HE IS QUALIFIED!! Obama is a clueless, incompetent, and corrupt president that is ruining this country and economy on a daily basis. Let's look closer at Obama to determine his qualifications!!

Just who are the 40 percent of republicans who think this lady is qualified to do anything but get up in the morning? This is what is wrong with the republican party and why they have so much trouble recruiting independents like myself. Yes, I am disgusted with the way the country is right now. Do I think Obama is a fault? Probably not. I think he is trying. I think congress and their lack of cooperation between parties has most to do with it.

Palin (and the 40 percent that see her as the second coming) can't see the forest from the trees. They want to blame the "other" guy. They don't want to help your fellow american when he or she is down (except if that help eventually helps them). Palin standing there with Beck this weekend talking about healing America to a 99% white crowd disgusted me (and I am white). Anyone that thinks Palin is qualified for the Whitehouse has serious judgement skills. Every Republican that believes she is qualified, should obviously not be in any posotion of power and needs to be voted out of their office.Sarah should be applauded for making millions off of absolutley nothing ,but anyone with an ounce of intellegence knows she is not qualified for any office, she could not even get elected for high office again in her home state of Alaska, which tells me that Alaska has much more intellegence then many other states. If Republicans continue to support her it tells us they are not to be trusted with important decisions. Anyone that thinks Palin is qualified for the Whitehouse, has zero credibility in my eyes and all voters need to take that into consideration when they vote.

Sarah Palin is out to make as much money as fast as she can and she will say whatever it takes to stay in the limelight. As president, she has the potential to do irreversable harm to this nation. Sarah Palin demonstrated that she could lead a state sucessfully which is more than some of the other presidents have done. Obama never accoplished anything even close to what Govenor Palin did. she balanced the budget-which is something he couldn't do. Not only didn't he do that but he increased the national debt greatly. Instead of letting the companies that could not adequately run there own businesses default he tried to bail them out by giving them money. If a company can't make it due to over paying salaries to the top employees, let them go under and let other smaller companies that can make a profit have a chance. Paying money isn't the answer to lack of business savy. This is only one of the issues where she could do better then other presidents. Another is not to pardon big drug lords so they can go back into business making it necessary for us to go through the expense of convicting them again. We need a Republican house to support her. Yeah for Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin caused the downfall of John McCain, and the RNC is solely responsible for forcing Palin on McCain. While Joe Lieberman could have been the VP, the Republicans were afraid of losing their core right wing support from talk radio and Fox News, when McCain announced that Joe was his first choice for the VP slot. Since Presidents don't govern but only follow instructions and policies that are enforced by those who truly govern from the shadows all that is needed from a president is the ability to speak, act and write to sign bills that they don't write. They have to do a little better than to just put an X where the signature goes. Given this, then Sarah Palin can be elected as president just as Barack Obama, George Bush and Bill Clinton were.

Sarah Palin clearly has the ability to "stir up" crowds and anger as well, but when it comes to substance, she shows that she lacks knowledge of the issues and more importantly, answers to the complex problems this nation faces today. She has capitalized on her "moment of fame" and turned it into a "cash cow" as well, but offers little or nothing to the national debate or solutions to problems and seems to be using the gullible and dissatisfied public to line her own pockets. Her record as a "quitter" should concern anyone thinking about voting for her as well.

I have my doubts about Palin's qualifications too. But is she any less qualified than Obama? At least she was actually chief executive of a state.

Not that I'm endorsing Palin for President–she, like the neo-cons in general, is far too wiling to try to cram her bible-thumping down everyone's throat–just like Obama is so willing to try to cram his neo-socialism down everyone's throat.

What the country needs is fewer politicians trying to impose their various philosophies on the rest of us, and more willing to just leave us alone.

The United States doesn't need a president who has no clear concept of how government actually works, no clear understanding of geography, a complete ignorance to world politics, no idea how financial institutions work, and nothing but a complete disregard for anyone but their own career. This isn't bad news for Sarah Palin. She is what she is, and increasingly has been connecting with a population of white, middle class religious females, who see the world in the same simple terms that she does.

The problem, if there is one, is for the Republican party as a whole. They have shown they can win elections by pushing the hot button prejudices of the different demographic groups who make up their base. They have not demonstrated that they can frame a national consensus around any of the complex issues the country faces.

It is a little hard to build a coalition to govern based on the guiding principle that you really don't want government to do anything. There may be a lot of voters who would buy into this slogan, but these are people who don't understand the complexity of the many issues that face the country.

Sorry to say, but the world isn't black and white, good and bad.

Sarah Palin can be best described as an 'agitant' in the 'true conservative' political machine. Would an 'agitant' make a viable president? The clear answer is NO. Imagine a political leader, that no matter what he/she says or does ALWAYS stirs up the 'hornet's nest'. Sooner or later, all those who have opposing points of view will be oppressed or suppressed should that political agitant leader come into enough power to have control over the masses. Imagine someone of that character and nature have control of the military and the 'bomb'. I would say that's some pretty scary stuff. And furthermore cannot be allowed to happen.

    Definition of agitant:
    1. Anyone, or something, that tends to arouse public feeling, interest, or support for or against something.

Palin raised taxes as governor and benefits from the state's socialistic permanent fund program while crying about the "evils" of socialism. Then she QUIT as governor to chase the almight dollar, abandonin her constituents. She's a phony conservative and poor executive. Why anyone still believes she is fit to lead this country astonishes me. She should just stick to motivational speaking.

I cannot believe ANYONE in their right mind (I guess that eliminates the GOP) would for one second believe Palin qualified for POTUS. I'm beating a dead horse here, but she's not qualified for anything in the public sector. She's already shown she's a quitter and money grubber.

Great another CNN Palin story. Again a lot of us republicans love her but do not necessarily care about her running for president, she speaks what we feel and for now that's what we need. Have you ran stories on how obama's numbers have dropped, thats a story you should be running everyday....

And to think that Sarah thought her being a celebracy and her presence at the right-wing raly she could get a million. People are starting to see this IDIOT is a waste of time. It' all about MONEY for this woman. I wonder how much Glen Beck paid her for her apperance. Did she travel in her private jet?

CBS News estimated 87,000 people attended a rally organized by talk-radio host and Fox News commentator Glenn Beck Saturday in Washington, according to a crowd estimate commissioned by CBS News.
AirPhotosLive.com gave its estimate a margin of error of 9,000, meaning between 78,000 and 96,000 people attended the rally. The photos used to make the estimate were taken at noon Saturday, which is when the company estimated was the rally's high point.
Rally organizers had a permit for crowd of 300,000.

That just goes to show how truly partisan Republican voters have become. Though it's by a slim margin, a majority of them think that Caribou Barbie is qualified to be POTUS! Just because you agree with a person's stand on social issues and he/she can utter cute little catch phrases does not make that person qualified to run our country. This is proof that they care more for their party winning than the future of America.

Although I am a staunch Conservative and want the Republicans to win in everything, I do not believe that Sarah Palin is qualified to be President. She is a personality, she is a nice person, she and I agree on a lot of things but we do not need another personality in the White house. She will drive away a lot of the Independents and then all will be lost for us if she should be the candidate. She is too polarizing a figure and I feel the republicans need to find someone different for their candidate. I am not sure even I could vote for her,, but I cannot vote for a democrat either, so I guess in that case I would not vote for the first time in my 75 years. I have never missed voting since I was old enough to vote, but if she is the candidate it would surely be a first.

This is not news. Apart from a brief period immediately after she got the VP nod from John McCain, Palin has consistently polled as being unqualified to be President. She has consistently received net negative polling from independents and women.

The real mystery is why the media – including CNN – continue to hang on her every Tweet and Facebook page update as though she had any chance of ever winning elected office again.

It's hard to believe that anyone, were they to face her name on a ballot, thinks she is even remotely qualified for President. I was of the opinion that she didn't even want to run, but her recent attempts to speak wisely to a larger audience appear to be feeding her tremendous ego, the ego that tells her God is opening those doors. I can hardly wait. The dossier that the RNC has on her will at last be opened, and they will quietly ask their sniper-in-chief to step aside. When she refuses, citing her 1st and 2nd amendment rights have been violated, she will be quickly done in at the first Republican debate bu her more experienced, more knowledgeable colleagues. If not then, then at her first real news conference in front of real journalists who don't feed her the questions three days in advance. Palin will, at last, self-destruct, and can go home and be a parent to her neglected, beloved, children. And count that money she is so fond of.

Interesting that Democrat voters think former Gov. Palin is not qualified to be President, when they voted overwhelmingly for someone even less qualified and put Pres. Obama into the office. Someone with ZERO executive experience.

And now the country is paying for their folly. Fortunately, we won't be paying for it very much longer, because the Liberal agenda stops January 1, 2011 when the new Congress controlled by the Republicans will take over.

Let's think about this rationally for a moment. Let's assume you run a business and you are looking for a manager who can make some intelligent, professional business decisions. Would you risk the assets of your company and your personal wealth by hiring this person? Probably not. If you are looking for somebody to stand by the road and draw some attention for your fundraiser car wash? Maybe. President? I am surprised that there is 1 person who would think so.
