DGA 'matches' $1M News Corp. contribution to RGA

The Democratic Governors Association has raised over $1 million off of the news that News Corporation gave $1 million to the Republican Governors Association.
The Democratic Governors Association has raised over $1 million off of the news that News Corporation gave $1 million to the Republican Governors Association.

(CNN) - The Democratic Governors Association announced Tuesday that they have raised over $1 million to "match" the $1 million that Fox News' parent company, News Corporation, has given to the Republican Governors Association in the 2010 election cycle.

The announcement demonstrates the success Democrats have had painting Fox News as a mouthpiece for the Republican Party.

"When Fox News' parent company, News America, pumped a million bucks into this year's 37 governors' races, I bet they thought they'd be helping the Republican Governors Association snuff out Democratic state leaders and congressional majorities for years to come," the DGA's executive director, Nathan Daschle, wrote in an e-mail to supporters Monday. "Boy, did that backfire."

The DGA raised nearly $200,000 in the last 48 hours according to Daschle's e-mail and another e-mail sent Tuesday by DGA finance director Colleen Turrentine.

The RGA did not immediately respond to CNN's request for comment.

When news broke earlier this month of News Corporation's massive contributions to the RGA, Democrats pounced.

"'Fair and Balanced' has been rendered utterly meaningless," Democratic National Committee spokesman Hari Sevugan said. "Any pretense that may have existed about the ties between Fox News and the Republican Party has been ripped violently away."

News Corporation spokesman Jack Horner defended the donation.

"News Corporation believes in the power of free markets, and the RGA's pro-business agenda supports our priorities at this most critical time for our economy," Horner said in a statement to CNN.

Glenn Beck works for New Corp who owns Fox.

Prince Alwaleed bin Talal al-Saud of Saudi Arabia, through his Kingdom Holding Company, is the second largest shareholder.

Rupert Murdock, the largest shareholder is an Aussie: the Prince is an Arabian and both have too many fingers in American Politics and American news ( if you can call Fox News) ... Fox always screams "follow the money!" ... well here is one money trail that needs the sunshine!

Interesting how little media coverage has been given to the study that shows 88% of political donations from ABC, NBC and CBS employees went to Democrats in the 2008 election cycle. But bias can only exist at Fox, right? Slanted or not, at least Fox presents both sides of every story, and doesn't "bury" news that doesn't fit its editorial agenda, as the others do.

Whatever....the dems/liberals are like 2 years olds. If NBC, CBS, ABC, etc. had given a mil in one shot to DGA they would not say a word. Hypocrites!

Wonder why the DGA (and of course CNN) isn't reporting that 88% of the employees of CBS, NBC and ABC gave money to the Democratic committees? I guess that kind of coverage would be "fair and balanced" and therefore abhorrent to the racially biased, bigoted and corrupt democrats.

Why not be fair and balanced yourself and highlight the fact that Fox's democrat contributions are 50% of their total givings and prior to this they had given more to dems? Why not mention that the one million only balanced their total givings so to even the field between democrats and republicans?

The democrats should be investigated because this money is most likely stolen from the taxpayer in the form of the union bailout that was passed earlier this month. Besides, It really doesn't matter how much money the dems waste on their campaign ,they are going to loose this fall anyway. If the republicans stopped campaigning today , the dems will still loose big time in november ! The majority of the public has already made up their minds ,and if the corrupt dems don't rig the elections ,AGAIN, the republicans will win big.

The irony is that almost all the money, Democratic and Republican, will go to electronic media, mostly TV, to buy spots. Much of the FOX (Republican) money will be returned to FOX, preaching to the choir.

Probably none of the Democratic money will go to FOX, since their viewers are "true believers" whose opinions cannot be influenced except by FOX's paranoid, extreme right-wing anti-Obama propaganda.

Sweet. Fox News IS a mouth piece for the Rethugs. President Obama has kept yet another campaign promise. He has ended combat in Iraq and is turning the country back over the the citizens who should be running it anyway. Thank you President Obama.

Yes, Fox News supports the free market and respects private property... except if that private property happens to be owned by muslims, then it should be taken over by government and regulated. Fun fact: the number one foreign investor in Fox News is the same Saudi Prince Al-Waleed who finances the mosque.

Bought and paid for... Money=free speach What a crock!

Perhaps the best way to determine election winners would be to bring back dueling. At least every election we'd reduce the number of lying egocentric fools.

Uh... On second thought, it wouldn't work. The Republicans would shoot first and ask questions later, and probably shoot the bystanders (like Dick Cheney and the Iraq war) and the Democrats would be afraid to pull the trigger no matter what advantage they had....

    I don't understand the problem.

Republicans are well known for their support of unfettered capitalism (leave businesses alone to do what they want) and do as I say conservative social agendas. This is not new.

How is this news? That Democrats raised a seemingly equal amount of money to counter them (in this instance)?

    LOL.

This country is so screwed up.

Career politicians have no clue what's about to happen when the new generation takes over politically. I hope and pray the young folks rip the old career politico's a new one.

The problem with conservatism is they "insist" everyone follow their rules. They want laws mandating it.

Liberals at least give you the option.

How come every single news outlet touts Fox news as the mouthpiece of the Republican party without giving equal face time to NBC for being the liberal hack, excuse me, the mouthpiece, for the Democratic party?
NBC and MSNBC are the most liberal news and/or media organizations in this country yet we hear little to nothing of their anti-conservative bias, their constant name calling (see any program they have regarding the Palin family) of any Republican, their divisive attitude, and their unrealistic vision for the U.S.?
I hear a lot about people wanting to move toward a more Socialistic country but I'll bet not one of these idiots has sent in their donation check to the IRS. If they want to help out so bad why are they not footing the bill for the America THEY want? They just want to force their liberal agenda on the other half of the country that disagrees with then right after bashing the Republicans for wanting to do the same.
What a bunch of hypocrites these liberals are.
