New York (CNNMoney.com) - Businesses are hiring, but not enough to make up for the massive losses of temporary government jobs.
The economy lost a total of 54,000 jobs in August, according to the Labor Department, matching the revised estimate of jobs lost in July.
The bulk of the losses came from the public sector, as the government cut 114,000 temporary census workers. It was the third straight month that census worker layoffs caused an overall decline in jobs.
But the report showed some improvements in the jobs picture. The overall losses were not as bad as expected, as economists surveyed by Briefing.com had predicted a loss of 120,000 jobs in the month.

Have you ever heard the phrase " A watched pot never boils." I think we check in on this statistic too often. Really we should assess the unemployment rate every 3-4 months. I think that checking every month gives us meaningless data.
Of course unemployment went up. All the manufacturing jobs are in China. Tax the goods coming back in to the US and we can pay the nation debt off in 5 years. You can thank George the first, Clinton and George the second for ALL this unemployment. Didn't Ross Perot tell you to listen for the sucking sound. Don't blame Obama, he didn' t cause this mess.
Don't know how much more of the "summer of prosperity" we can take as a country. Perhaps I just don't know how much more of this inept, incompetent, corrupt, slimy, union toady president we can take.
See if a Republican were president, the unemployment rate would have fallen. Just as many people would be out of work, but they would just lie and say it and FOX news would boast about it. When people put up the facts that unemployment had actually gone up instead of down, the republicans would say that the numbers were statistical mumbo-jumbo and you can find some liberal wacko to give any number you want. Then they would say that the American people know that unemployment went down (if Fox news is doing its job). Problem solved.

I HOPE the unemployment doesn't keep CHANGING for the worse. After it, it was almost guaranteed not to go over 8% if we listened to the democrats.

CNN recently had an article how a small business can send a job to India for $14 an hour. Sounded pretty good if your the owner of a small business. But then I hear our wonderful government say that they want to create a bill to help small businesses, so hiring will pick up.....
Hiring will pick up where – in India???? Why is my tax money going to help small businesses when they, as well as their big brother corporate America, are sending jobs off shore???

So how many months in a row of private sector hirring is that? Government jobs are irrelevant. If we are going to have a strong recovery it will be private sector, they have the cash now, hiring is slow. We need the small business tax breaks through the Senate and the GOP has to stop obstructing this. We also need to end tax breaks for sending jobs overseas (in the same bill). This is going to be a slow recovery, but a recovery none the less.
By doing absolutely nothing, the [Republicans/ Democrats/ Bush/ Obama/ The White House/ Congress/ Liberals/ Conservatives] have been trying to achieve. Loss of government jobs, rise in unemployment, and increase (emphasis) in private sector jobs.

CNN, how can you say you see the sign of life for employment? Obamie and Bite-me boosted that their economic and social engineering policies will add an averaged 500,000 new jobs a month for this summer and beyond with the stimulus wastfeul spending. The true net number for the new job creation for Obummie and Bite-me may be just 50000. The current administration has created a hostile economic and social environment which prevents new job creation. YA, hope and change we were promised and got.
More spin by the dumbocraps. Let the predict we will lose 300,000 jobs next month and when we only lose 100,000 they can say see things are improving. What B.S. !!!!! 9.6% unemployment. That is up from 9.5% last month. Yes, we are really making good progress. The real unemployment number is about 18-19%.
But Obama sure touted the employment rate when these temporary census workers were hired. Everything he has done continues to eventually bite him in the butt.
