Washington (CNN) – A new national poll released Sunday indicates that eight in 10 Americans say that the economy is in poor shape, and the number that says conditions are very poor is on the upswing after steady declines through the spring.
And according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey, more people blame the Republicans over the Democrats for the country's economic problems.

Eighty-one percent of the public rates the county's economic conditions as poor, with 18 percent describing the economy as good.
Forty-four percent of people questioned describe economic conditions as very poor, up seven points from July.
After the jump: Who do Americans say is to blame?
The poll indicates that roughly half the country says that conditions have not improved in the past two years. The other half says that the economy has gotten better, but many of them expect things will get worse in the near future.
"Roughly a third of all Americans say that the economy has gotten better and will continue to do so," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "But one in five say that things have gotten better but will take a turn for the worse in the months ahead - essentially predicting the "double-dip" that many economists are worried about."
So which party gets the blame for the country's current economic problems?
According to the survey, more Americans hold the Republicans responsible than the Democrats, with 44 percent blaming the GOP and 35 percent picking the Democrats.
"And when George W. Bush's name is added to the mix, the number who blame the Republicans rises to 53 percent, with just a third saying that Barack Obama and his party are at fault. That indicates why the Democrats are likely to mention Bush's name every chance they get between now and election day," Holland said.
But according to numbers released Friday, just four in 10 Americans say they approve of the job President Barack Obama is doing on the economy. The 40 percent who give Obama a thumbs up is a new low for the president on the economy in CNN polling.
The CNN/Opinon Research Corp. poll was conducted Wednesday and Thursday, with 1,024 adult Americans questioned by telephone. The survey's overall sampling error is plus or minus three percentage points.

Well, finally Americans are waking up. Good for them. GOPs are only about greed and money, mind you I am sure there are democrats that fit into this category as well.
Get rid of them.
This country needs to give the President a chance. It takes time to recover from all this.
If people think things are bad now wait and see what happens with more Republicans in the Senate and Congress. Not one bill will make it through to signing, not one government agency will get the people it needs to do their job, not one court in the land will get the judges needed to move justice forward. The country will be at a standstill, held hostage by the Republicans who just cannot accept being in control. Those are the tactics they have used for two years and like small children, if they are rewarded you will see a lot more of the same behavior.
Can't wait to see what happens in November. Sit back and watch the Democrats fall like dominoes. By the time Obama's position is up for grabs, the middle income, working class and anyone making over 250,000 (which by the way is not illegal or is it a sin) will have had a taste of paying for their health care along with all the NONWORKING folks health care and Obama will sink like the Titanic. As far as polls go-I have had folks call and start asking questions and when they find out I am not a DEMOCRAT they hang up and that is the end of their polling me!! How funny.
Hey CNN readers who buy this load of crap. We'll see in November, won't we. Spin doesn't influence voters. Actions do. And Obama's actions will cause a tsunami against democrats who have been hijacked by the Libs.
They are in HUGE trouble and mere spin won't help them one bit. See y'all on November 3rd.
Change & Hope both are empty words.
Obama didn't care about employment. He squandered an entire year on health care, figuring that the unemployed should just accept unemployment as "adequate".
Now, he still is doing nothing, but blaming his failures on the GOP. People need to stop listening to the lies, and take corrective action, in November.
A failed economy today is a direct result of George Bush and the GOP failed policies. At least Obama is trying to correct the problem. Without the stimulus monies we would really be in deep depression. We are a nation of angry people who have been living well above our means....so please grow up and except Obama's help!
