NRCC targets Donnelly in first ad

Donnelly says he is running against the entire 'Washington crowd.'
Donnelly says he is running against the entire 'Washington crowd.'

(CNN) – Indiana Rep. Joe Donnelly has modeled his reelection campaign around an effort to ensure voters forget he is a Democrat.

The National Republican Congressional Campaign Committee is more than happy to remind them.

The committee is out with its first television ad of the cycle Monday that repeatedly flashes images of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi next to Donnelly – himself a moderate Democrat who represents Indiana's conservative-leaning second congressional district.

"Joe Donnelly claims he's independent. But he has voted with Nancy Pelosi 88 percent of the time," says the ad's narrator. "For the Obama-Pelosi healthcare plan, the Wall Street bailout, even the $800 billion stimulus that failed…Now Joe Donnelly believes he wants us to be independent?"

NRCC spokesman Paul Lindsay says the ad will run for a week in the South Bend media market and described the size of the buy as "significant"

Donnelly's own campaign has become a case study in how vulnerable Democrats are running this cycle: by conveniently leaving out the fact he's aligned with the party in control in Washington.

His Web site also makes little mention of his party affiliation, and, in a recent ad, Donnelly says he is running against the "Washington crowd" while showing an image of Obama, Pelosi, and House Minority Leader John Boehner.

Donnelly faces Republican Jackie Walorski, a state legislator and former television reporter. Recent polls suggest Donnelly maintains a double digit lead in the race.

In response to the ad, Democrats are pointing out one of the votes Donnelly is being targeted for - approval of the Wall Street Bailout known as TARP - actually occurred under President Bush's watch and was backed by the GOP leadership.

A spokesman for Donnelly's campaign could not be reached.

  1. Facts are not fair to the GOP

John McCain voted with Bush and the culture of corruption 95% of the time. The stimulus has not failed, because 95% of us got a tax break under Obama, and over 3 million jobs have been saved. Republicans have voted against Americans 99.9% of the time.

You can't blame the guy for trying to distance from his Party. He doesn't want to lose his job like so many Americans have. The country is in bad shape. The Obama recession has people hurting and Donnelly wants to act like he's a republican to avoid joining the ranks of the unemployed. It won't work but good try.

OK NOw, at least he IS voting! The Relics',... all they can say is NO. It's akin to the shooting gallery at the carnival. The metal targets go by and "ping!" they get shot down but go around only to come back out again. Like I stated...at least he IS voting AND WORKING FOR the pay WE Americans give him. NOt like the rest who just want to make up BULLY ads and get paid for NOthing! NO wonder bullyism is rampant. They see the [so-called] adults doing it! NOw, where can I find a job like that besides running as a Relic!?...Beau Colby

Donnelly you stood with Pelosi and Obummie on heath care, the stimulus plan and MANY other issues. Why are you and the rest of the 219 dumbocraps that voted for the health care law running from it? Take your medicine boy. You will be judged for your votes and not by running ads that says I'm an outsider. No one with the size of a pea brain will believe that!!!

The sad thing here is that the people who are making these ads already sold their souls to big business and insurance companies that are the ones really killing the rest of us, not Obama and Pelosi care...GEEZ people are dumb.

Now Obama and the Democrats shift priorities to deal with the economy. With the economy in the dumps and unemployment growing as he took office, blaming Bush, he is still blaming Bush. The administration started ideological and class wars! Now it is time to shift to deal with the economy? Now? It is a joke or something? It should have been priority number one January 2009!!!!!!!!! Not ideology and not hammering on the Republicans who had great loses that round, but we saw the sin of pride (rather then humility) and sloth (rather then empathy) from this administration, neglecting the need for jobs and stability; now they remember to deliver on what they missed for two years!! Are we really that stupid to elect them so they take care of our real needs for two month (just before election) in two years!??

Kind of tough future for some Democrats who have to face the midterm elections. Obama and his team (except Hillary of course who is doing her job and has her agenda) are such a joke. On the other hand, the Democrats deserve it. You had your chances guys to nominate a good presidential candidate. Now enjoy the Hope, Change and Demagogy, and lose your seats. Maybe this will be a wake up call for 2012.

There is no real left wing in America today.
Democrats today are what Republicans used to be before they morphed into AmeriTaliban.
Even the most liberal Democrat in America is right of center in the rest of the civilized world, and look what we get for it: we work longer for less pay; get inferior benefits in return; little or no security for retirement; after paying insurance premiums, we have less left over than Europeans do after paying tax (but they get insurance into the bargain).
America is turning into a great big sweatshop.

Democrats need to stand up and start reminding the American people of what they accomplished.
The few are loud but facts are facts. Time to start the messaging war.

Why should any of this matter? Who cares what party you're affiliated to. This is what is soo wrong with america today. Because someone is affiliated with a democrat or republican defines why they should be fit for the job? Anyone that votes the opposite because of party affiliation is a complete moron, and explains why this country can't progress any further.

Yes, you are a complete bumbling idiot to not vote for someone because you're a democrat and they are a republican, or because you're a republican and the cadidate is a democrat. You have the opinion and the intelligence of a spoiled 5th grader. Which is exactely why politicians in DC act in the same manner. The politicians reflect the people that voted them in office. In other words, the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree.

Politics should not be a job for lifed. The president can only serve two terms, so why can a member of congress be elected for lifed? No wonder nothing ever get done in Washington. Let limit them to no more than 4 or 5 terms which is 16 or 20 years.

Voters should be thanking Donnelly and lining up to vote for him. He stood up for them and voted for people-oriented legislation. Our economy is far better now than it was when President Obama took office. All economic indicators are positive.

Republicans have done NOTHING but vote NO on EVERYTHING. They didn't offer a single solution, refused to work on a single solution and called for America to fail. They have spread hate, lies, fear, and racism with pure intolerance. Name ONE thing Republicans have done to help YOU! They hate the working/middle class and voted against every positive piece of legislation to help the economy – the JOBS bill, credit for small businesses who are stable and want to expand and add jobs. Small businesses are the true work engine of creating jobs. That is why Republicans refuse to vote for extending credit to them because they intentionally want to keep the economy down to make President Obama look bad.

The real villians are the Republicans. You had better know what you are voting for with them. They have announced plans to end Social Security, Medicare, Unemployment benefits, and Public schools – for starters. They plan to remove the regulations on Wall St so they can go right back to risky and corrupt practices that brought our financial system to failure. They plan to repeal all consumer protections.

Republicans have NOTHING positive in their plans – nothing to move the middle class forward and create jobs. All they want to do is extend the Bush tax cuts for the billionaires which will add 4 Trillion to the deficit.

Be careful what you vote for – YOU will pay the personal price if Republicans get power and take away all your benefits and send more jobs overseas. Can you live with less? Can you survive a full Depression? That is what Republicans will deliver – more Bush years with the same old policies that put us on the brink of disaster.

President Obama and the Democrats have been working HARD for YOU to get the economy moving and get jobs going – and they are doing it – not as fast as everyone wanted but when you have to fight Republicans on every single bill, it slows progress down.

Democrats are Rebuilders. Republicans are Destroyers.

Do not see in any way how he could possibly brag about being a republican.
A party who has obstructed to get our country back on it's feet after the crisises it created.
A party that has voted no on everything to help the American people and our coutry.
A party that thrown all integrity and honor to the wind in order to try and win this next election.
A party that has and will continue to sacrifice all for their undying love, support for Wall St and the rich.
A party that for has done nothing for these last 20 but spread propaganda, lies, fear, has goals of destroy our president regardless of the consequences, wants no improvement as they want to win at any cost.

If I were a republican I sure wouldn't want anybody to know THAT. They blocked unemployment for people. They blocked the jobs bill. They blocked the head care bill, They blocked the bill for the regulation of banks. Any thing and everything that this congress has tried to do to get this country going they asinine republicans have blocked in the senate. And they want people to be reminded THEY ARE THE GOOD GUYS. I hope every single solitary one tells people what they are, cause they are going to be swept out of office. No matter what the MSM tries to push polls in their favor they AIN'T gonna win. Because even tho they have programmed the electronic voting machines. WE KNOW IT NOW AND THEY ARE NOT GOING TO GET AWAY WITH IT LIKE THEY DID IN OHIO WITH BUSH.
