(CNN) - President Barack Obama will mark this weekend's anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks at a memorial service to be held at the Pentagon, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Tuesday.
Vice President Joe Biden will mark the anniversary in New York, Gibbs added.

I kind of figured he would. Now just to play devils advocate cause I am really in the middle here. All the people who say a mosque should be able to be built there( they have a right I know) and it really doesn't matter how the families of some 9/11 victims feel. Why are some upset about people burning the Quaran are they practicing there 1st amendment right? And would we care if they were burning t bibles in Kabul? or would we say oh well? Not saying either is right or wrong just wondering.
...for most of US, 9/11 is not passed, until our life will pass. The pain and the nightmare still with US. No medicine can cure it. But, with God will, we all calm.

This opposition to the Islamic Community center in lower Manhattan is politically motivated & Americans should stand up to these forces who are trying to create rifts in our society.

Obama has sense enough to know that the right-wing crazies will be out in force in NY on 9/11 to protest the mosque/community center. This really should be a non-issue but the right-wingers and cooperative media have combined to whip up a frenzy.
It reminds me of nothing so much as the Terry Schiavo case. The right wing can scream all it wants but the Constitution will stand and the Supreme Court will be the final word.
OMG doug – In that interview, he was explaining how McCAIN did not make any reference to his 'Muslim faith' and corrected himself in the next breath 'Christian Faith'. They were speaking about Muslims at the time and the President misspoke!!! If you listen to the ENTIRE conversation, you will have PICKED UP ON THAT... I am so sorry that you heard just a SNIPPET of it and believed what you heard!!! But then again, that's the problem of the country.

Dutch I got a great idea on the the Quran burning and that church (the Dove Peace Center or something like that???) - don't go to it and if you are a member, stop going. They are spreading a political message of hate and intolerance - churches are not supposed to 'weigh in' on political issues since their purpose is to carry the faith of Jesus and God to its members (give to Ceasar what is Ceasar – Christ had no problem with separation of church and state) and churches should be carrying a message of tolerance, faith, hope, charity, love, peace to its members. Not hate mongering a poorly selected political issue.
Secondly to Think Again - don't confuse these folks with the facts and now that the cat is out of the bag on the Muslims worshiping in our (Christian government's) chapel, Lord Only Knows what will happen now. What are folks going to storm the gates to have it dismantled? Has anyone told the GOP membership so they can raise this issue in the next Congressional session and shut it down? And surely this could not have been happening while Bad News Bush was in office – he never would have allowed such a thing.
And finally, Lord Only KNows what the press, teabags, gop, glenn beck, rush limbo will have to say about Obama attending such a thing as a memorial to those fallen on 911. I am sure the air waves will be sickened with smut, supposition, and speculation.
Obama has not caught a decent break since he stepped in office and I for one am sick of being yanked around by a mis-informed, bigotted, right wing media that has no clue what their job is anymore.

The Armed Forces is in danger by just being there. Stomping on some one 1st Amensment rights is why they ARE there in the 1st place. So why do you want to stomp on some one's 1st Amendment rights? If you don't like Quran burning maybe you shouldburn a few Bibles, maybe a flag or 2. The flag would be most appropriate to your stance on this issue.
You are all SHEEP that are too lazy to check your facts. And find the truth on 9/11 on Obama or on our Economic standing. You follow the divine word of one media over another or a guy (or woman) that would do anything to get the votes to keep a multi-million dollar job.

Our President has decided that with likely protestors being at the NY site was too newsworthy for him to appear there. He would have had to say something that may have caused another news cycle of un-needed press. So instead of risking that, he decided to put his VP in the hot seat. Doesn't he realize that Joe Biden will most likely be the one person who WILL cause a stir in the crowd again the mosque.

He went to the Pentagon last year and should be in New York this year. If he can't take the heat of maybe some protesters then he is awfully un Presidential like, especially in respect to the way he constantly bashes Bush for everything. If you can't take the heat, then get out of the kitchen.
