Clinton slams Florida pastor for 'disgraceful' plans

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Wednesday slammed a Florida pastor for his ‘disgraceful’ plan to burn the Quran on the anniversary of 9/11.

Washington (CNN) - Secretary of State Hillary Clinton used a foreign policy talk to weigh in on hot button political issues Wednesday, slamming a Florida pastor for his "disgraceful" plan to burn the Quran and strongly criticizing George W. Bush's fiscal record.

Clinton warned about the long-term consequences of rising federal budget deficits, arguing that they will eventually diminish U.S. power and impair America's ability to act effectively in the global arena.

Her remarks came during an appearance before the non-partisan Council on Foreign Relations.

Clinton noted that Terry Jones, the Florida pastor, is the head of a small congregation, and said she wished his plans to burn the Quran on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks hadn't attracted so much media attention. But sadly, "that's the world we live in right now," she said.

Clinton is right about Jones. She is also very correct when she said that Obummie's policies have put our debt at 93% of GDP and have put the US in a very venerable position in national security matters. Yes, that is right, it is Obummie that took us from 60 something % to 93% in 18 short months. Clinton is sitting up a run for the White House. I say good for her. We did pretty good under the other Clinton.

The guy is a complete loser and is clearly looking for controversy and attention.

He's following the Palin playbook to the letter. Do (and say in Palin's case) something overtly stupid and that'll get you noticed and rich. Play off the media attention and the rightwing hatred and use Christianity also and you're certain to get rich in the US.

I'll bet a $1000 that this guy will be able to spew his twisted rhetoric on Fixed News and also land a TV reality show and a book deal.

Yeah, I'm sure God wants a supposedly religious man using name to do what he's doing. I hope God rewards you appropriately.

  7. 8 Years of having a drunken driver at the wheel put America in the ditch, why would working Americans return the keys to the crowd drinking at the same bar?

To all you evangelical "christians"(now thereare two words that should not be used in the same paragraph, let alone the same sentence) supporting this book burning.

The highest General in the Afghan war has said this act will put both American civilians and troops in greater harm.

So, when an America soldier(s) is kidnapped, burned, drug through the street and finally hung from a light pole after being beheaded, the blood of these fine young people is on YOUR hands as the reason for their death will be directly attributable to an act you were warned would cause their death.

Your souls will also be bloodstained, and I am not sure God uses the new and improved Shout.

But you better pray that He does.

I do not agree with that idiot pastor who thinks it is fine to desecrate religous writings. But the world's Muslim community will have to understand what free speech really means. And that pastor should also understand that free speech is a double edged sword. By making a statement you own it, and all actions that follow it.

The so called pastor needs a medical check up. Sensible people do not act without weighing in first what are the gains and the loss. If the loss weighs more than the gains, then they forget completely their intentions to act.
In this case, the cost of lives which might be lost, is more important than the bloody message the pastor wants to send!

  11. Can't We All Just Get Along?

This pastor is evil personified. He's doing something that is as bad as what Fred Phelps and the Westboro lunatic fringe does. These groups are not Christian and should not be allowed to use that word as a description for themselves.

Terry Jones is a nutbag. But there is a bigger issue that this situation promotes: there should always be a sereration between church and state. Religious groups who seeek to put God into politics will ultimately wind up fighting amongst themselves. Whe I hear politicians promote Christ into the government my first thought is "Which one"? Each religion views God in different ways. Catholics, Protestants, Jews, all have differing ideas and beliefs. Are we to expect government to tell us which ones to follow? Look at how people are attacking the Quoran. Never read it but they want to burn it. If all religions are different then how can we possibly place God when clearly the message from Him was "Render to Ceasar the things that are Ceasars and to God the things that are Gods". Don't give Terry Jones any air time. That's what he wants.

I don't think anyone that is part of this administration needs to lecture anyone about fiscal responsibility. And Hillary didn't even stand up against Obama when running for the dems nomination for president. She quit her run and look what we got,a person that is incapable to deal with the nation's problems and spends most of his time playing golf or vacationing.

I do not understand how anyone who claims to be a Christian could approve, much less instigate, a unChristianly agenda! There will be many false prophets it says in the Bible before the end, he sure acts like one to me, along with Jim Jones, Robert Koresh, and countless untold ones.

I don't agree with the burning of any book. But, isn't it interesting that nothing is said of the terrible discrimination against Christians and faiths other than Islam in Islamic countries. I see no evidence of tolerance for other religions or the non-religious in Islamic states. Yet, countries where the majority are Christian house thriving Islamic communities. When is the last time you heard REAL condemnation against Islamic terrorists or extremists from the so-called moderate muslims?????

slamming a Florida pastor for his "disgraceful" plan to burn the Quran

It is disgraceful, and IRRESPONSIBLE as we still have troops that will be in ADDITIONAL harm's way due to what I can only term as this idiot's quest for publicity.

If you're such a big patriot, Pastor, you should think about the immediate thousands overseas, and your countrymen whom you are putting in harms' way with your imbecilic and godless actions.

Why don't you burn the Bible pastor? Lord knows that A LOT more crimes against mankind have been committed by Bible-toting, quoting, fanatics than by anyone that studies, and adheres to the Quran.

Okay from the burning of the Quran to GWBush. Its not the smartest speech she has given and its Obama's economy now Hillary. As for the Bush taxcuts for the wealthy, it went by a person's paycheck, so the more you pay in the more you get back now that only makes common sense. In Obama's plan he wants to end these cuts for the wealthy which makes no sense because why should hard working people not be entitled to a tax break when they have to pay in just like the middle class do. Obama's way will never stimulate economy growth down the road.

  24. Enough Already

If we allow people to burn the American Flag, then we have to allow them the right to burn the Quran. Both acts are hideously offensive, but that's the price of free speech.

Why give a whacko a mega platform for free publicity!! if I understand correctly, the whackos church has fifty members only!. Then why should the media jeopardize not only the lives of the Americans at home and our troops abroad but also all our businesses out there in Islamic countries. Is it too hard for this tea bagger so called pastor to realize that we import oil from Saudi Arabia which is also an Islamic State?
