Obama: Recession recovery has been 'painfully slow'

(CNN) – President Barack Obama acknowledged Friday that bouncing back from the recession has been "painfully slow," but insisted that the economy continues to grow as he pushed his administration's new economic proposals at his first news conference in months.

Obama once again urged the Senate to pass his small-business jobs bill, arguing that it has been blocked by "a partisan (Republican) minority." He praised Sen. George Voinovich, R-Ohio, for announcing that he would not help GOP leaders block the bill.

Still, he said, there is "room for discussion" on competing tax plans. "If the Republican leadership is prepared to get serious ... I would love to talk to them," he told reporters at the White House.

Hard to start a recovery by running the next generation trillions in debt.

    during the campaign:
    "in my first 100 days"
    "day one"
    "right away"
    "turn around"
    "change, change, change"

    now:
    "slow"
    "sorry"
    "someone else's fault"
    "soon – in few years"
    "same'ol, same'ol, same'ol"

Thank you Mr. President unlike some others i know it took us years to get in this mess and its going to take years to get us out of it. The economy is growing again some cant see it because they are so busy complaining. just like it someone would have told them that we was going to be in a recession 10 years ago they would not have believe it.

Since President Obama has acknowledged that the recovery has been "painfully slow," will he now also acknowledge that the recovery has been impeded, not enhanced, by his administration and the Democratic Congress excessive spending and overreaching for big government control of everything?

Aren't the Republicans the ones who are always carping about hurting the small businessman and how they are supposedly the segment that will lead the recovery? Yet they're blocking a bill that would help small businesses? Pretty hypocritical.

Stop the spending maddness, this is another spending bill and nothing else. We are broke as a nation, and quite frankly both democrats and republicans are to blame, vote them all out.

Business tax breaks !!!!! When proposed by a Democrat, especially Obama, trust the Repubs to find some excuse to oppose it. Believe me- If they win big in Nov, they will "tweek" Obama`s proposal and find a way to claim credit. ---– These people only care about one thing--- POWER.

Painfully slow????? It has been nonexistant!!! If the incompetent, inept, corrupt union toady hadn't used the money as a political payback for the slimy, corrupt union bosses and the dope smoking libertards, it would probably be humming. All of these things he is proposing now were what the Republicans said should be in the original stimulus package, the the Democrat liberals turned in to a corrupt mess.

To all you Obama supporters, I know that you are not too bright so I will speak slowly.
THE ECONOMY WILL IMPROVE ONCE THE REPUBLICANS ARE BACK IN CONTROL.
As always, it takes the Republicans to fix the mistakes of the Democrats. The nightmare will be over in 2012

President Obama has reached across the isle to the Republican Party since he was elected, and was rejected repeatedly by the "Party of NO. " I think it's time the gloves came off, and he does it HIS WAY.

Thank you Mr. President. This economy WILL recover under THIS president and we WON'T need the help of the ill-fated republicans to do it.

I don't know if anyone else besides me has noticed lately – how many republicans are on the blogs since our president has been back out on the campaign trail. Be afraid – be VERY afraid. Our president is going to defeat your evil agenda and there is NOTHING you can do about it. Keep telling it like it is Mr. President. We are strongly behind you and support our country's return to peace and prosperity.

    Hey Obama,

Look no further than the mirror for the reason why. Class warfare has been tried in this country before. It never works – the rich will sit on their fortunes and just bide their time – as they always have.

Why, you ask? Because you've already taxed their fortunes. You can only tax their earnings, which are typically a pittance compared to what they've already amassed. And when you try to tax the earnings on their fortunes, they'll find ways around it. Ask the senior senator from Massachusetts where he and his ketchup heiress wife have their fortune – did you say tax-free muni bonds?

So while you stir up the masses with your "kick the rich" rhetoric, remember this – you're probably hurting the less fortunate more.

Am I wealthy? Far from it. But I never worked for a poor man. All I have is my earning potential. Don't take that away from me.

The Republican leadership is never going to be serious about helping the economy. It's all about their quest for power so they can tell me who I can love and how I can live in my own home.
