Schwarzenegger joke mocks Palin

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger took a swipe at former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Friday.
California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger took a swipe at former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Friday.

(CNN) - California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger took a shot at former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Friday, writing that he was "looking everywhere but can't see Russia from here" as his plane flew over Alaska.

The joke is an apparent reference to Palin's now infamous – and often misquoted – answer to a foreign policy question during an interview in the run-up to the 2008 presidential election.

"Over Anchorage, AK. Looking everywhere but can't see Russia from here. Will keep you updated as search continues," Schwarzenegger joked, posting a photo along with his Twitter message.

Schwarzenegger's flight was destined for Asia, where the California governor is on a trip designed to increase trade.

Actress Tina Fey and Saturday Night Live popularized the joke through its parody of Palin, in which Fey delivered the line: "I can see Russia from my house!"

But that's not what Palin really said. The full quote came in an interview with ABC's Charlie Gibson in reaction to a question about U.S. policy toward Russia.

"They're our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska," Palin said.

As fun as it is to make fun of Palin, the REALLY funny people are her fans! Go look at replies under her Facebook posts and see if you can find anyone who can spell five words in a row! Witness the horrors of grammar!

It's hilarious, but it's also shocking that the American educational system turned these people loose when they have such a pathetic skill set.

Everyone knows that Palin did not actually say she could see Russia from her house. That is not the point. The point is that seeing Russia from an island in Alaska is insignificant, and just another example of the dumb nonsense that falls out of her mouth.

Seriously, does seeing Russia from Alaska make that states part time Governor qualified to be VP? That is the point, and she will continue to be the butt of jokes for her stupid inferences. And because she is an idiot.

Arnold, you are exactly the kind of RINO politician that will have A LOT of free time on your hands after Nov elections after you are all kicked out of office. Palin never said that she could see russia from her house, as the liberal media said she did. It's no surprise to see that you are following the same mindless drivel that the rest of the liberal robots are.

At least Arnold knows when he's being funny.  The real joke isn't Palin saying she can see Russia from her house... it was how her handlers prepped her (or her ignoring them). She thought that just because an Alaskan eskimo can wave to a Russian eskimo across the Bering Strait, and that she was governor of that tiny remote piece of land that she never visited, that this made her qualified in the foreign relations arena.  Why was she allowed to say that in public?  Or was she 'going rogue' by opening her mouth when they told her not to?  That will always be her 'potatoe'.

  6. Former Republican, but never again!

This is just the beginning! As 2012 gets closer, Republican hopefuls will get out their knives and carve this idiot to pieces!

Little Diomede Island is in the Bering Straight on the Alaska side of the International Date LIne. Big Diomede island is on the Russian side. These islands are separated by about 2 and 1/2 miles of ocean, close enough to walk across when there is ice.

So it's true, if Tina Fey lived on Little Diomede, she could see Russia from her house.

The often "misquoted" line is LESS ridiculous than the real line in the context of a question she was really asked. She actually answered a question about her foreign policy experience by implying she had plenty because of Alaska's location in relation to Russia & Canada on the map.

Whoever wrote this thing for CNN is a Palin sympathizer.

Sarah barracuda is an excellent example of how to succeed in this country by being an ignorant and outrages liar and an obstructionist. Her supporters are the naïve, the uneducated and the religious fanatics. No one with any common sense would want to take her seriously.

public opinion is proof that the underhanded splicing and dicing of the far left, 88% of 4 networks voted for Obama, media worked at portraying the GOVERNER. Yes, what did you know about Obama when he was running for president. I am neither demo or rep, I vote per issues. However, I did keep asking my Obama supporter friends "who is he? what has he done?" Clinton was robbed

Why dont you just listen to what Palin actually says.. rather than carry on a joke for 2 years.. this lady is pretty darn smart if you actually listen to her rather than what libs, cnn, and msnbc say about her.

She is someone that can actually LEAD this country toward solving its problems. If she's stood through all the lawsuits and insults toward her, she can stand through anything.
