Palin, Schwarzenegger in tweet tiff

Sarah Palin hit back at Arnold Schwarzenegger Friday on her Twitter page.
Sarah Palin hit back at Arnold Schwarzenegger Friday on her Twitter page.

(CNN) – Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin shot back at California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Friday, after the former movie star poked fun at the former vice presidential nominee on his Twitter account.

As Schwarzenegger flew over the 50th state on his way to Asia for a six-day trade mission, he posted a photo of himself looking out a plane window at an Alaskan mountaintop. Alongside the picture, the governor wrote that he was "looking everywhere but can't see Russia from here."

The joke was a reference to Palin's now infamous – and often misquoted – answer to a foreign policy question during an interview in the run-up to the 2008 presidential election. Many Americans believe Palin once said "I can see Russia from my house," when in reality, the line was uttered by Tina Fey in a Saturday Night Live sketch.

On Friday afternoon, Palin hit back at Schwarzenegger and took aim the economic distress plaguing his state.

"Arnold should have landed," Palin tweeted. "I could have explained our multi-billion dollar state surplus & US energy security efforts. What's he been up to?"

Schwarzenegger's state has been drowning in debt and budget deficits for years. Alaska has a relatively healthy economy that is heavily reliant upon oil revenue and received federal stimulus dollars.

Sour grapes is all – especially since most of the things Palin is trying to take credit for pre-date her administration and have nothing to do with her position or power as Governor.

Ah well, leave it to her political wing to open fire instead of taking a joke on the chin – or even taking responsibility for what they've said.

Or Palin perhaps you should explain to Arnold how all that was in place BEFORE you came into your short term in office, how NONE of your policies for energy security/production are still place or were even instituted or how Alaskans are so dependent on Federal Taxpayers' monies from the Lower 48 and how they have been bought off by the oil industry through the epitome of socialism....THE PFD.

How about you share that with him too honey.

And while you're at it can you explain how you felt this was so important to comment on when you made no mentioning of how the Quran burning would impact our troops or national security. Was that too substantive for ya? You betcha!!

Alaska is the 49th state; it became so on Jan 3 1959. It was followed by the 50th state, Hawaii, which gained statehood on August 21, 1959. You can't see Russia from there either.

Since Mrs. Palin was only governor of Alaska for 2 years, I hope she isn't hinting that she had anything to do with use of monies from the the surplus of natural resources enjoyed by Alaska.

He has more people in his backyard then she does in the whole state. At least he stuck with his job when the going got tuff. He did not run to some reality show, and fiction news station.

Amen, Sarah. Arnie has been a HUGE disappointment. He should not be poking fun at ANY governor.

Yeah, great business model Alaska. Get all the other states in the country to send you more money from the federal government than Alaska pays in. Wonder why every state doesn't do that? Oh yeah, duh!

    She's not even the governor.
She's got nothing to brag about.

Imagine a conversation between a governor that speaks English as a second language and an ex-governor that manages to mangle hillbilly English.

Palin asks "What's he been up to?"

The answer is Governor Schwarzenegger has been serving out his entire terms in office, for starters.

Also, considering Alaska is a welfare state that takes more money from the federal government that it receives, I would not brag about its surplus if I were you, Ms. Palin.

Alaska oil goes a long way in making them seem economically viable. Her administration didn't do a blasted thing towards making US energy security efforts more efficient Sounds good on her tweets, but being a twit herself, her wires are getting crossed.

Seeing as she took the hundreds of millions for the bridge to nowhere, never built the bridge and proceeded to keep all that money, its not a shocker that they still have money that could have been used elsewhere. Thats one pathetic woman.

In fairness, she did NOT say "I can see Russia from my house" but she DID say "Alaska is closer to Russia than any other state in the country" which still demonstrates a complete lack of understanding of what constitutes foriegn policy expiriance.

...in face if she COULD see Russia from her house that might actually account for something.

Also, you don't get to brag about, "...our multi-billion dollar state surplus & US energy security efforts..." after you quit your job as governor.

Oh really? Was Ms. Palin even in Alaska at that time? Seems like she spends a whole lot of time far away from her beloved state...

The lady has a point. This article will rack up 200-300 comments....ninety percent of these comments will be derogatory towards a lady whose intelligence is far above any of those making said comments. Your Commander in chief calls Europe a country.... and claims to have visited 57 states....He writes in a book that he stands by his Muslim faith, but then says he is a christian. Point is, anything can be taken out of context and made to be bad. Sarah didn't actually mouth being able to see Russia from her house.....but maybe you idiots don't realize that.
