Democrats up ante against Boehner

The DNC has come out with two ads charging that House Minority Leader John Boehner is too close to lobbyists in Washington.
The DNC has come out with two ads charging that House Minority Leader John Boehner is too close to lobbyists in Washington.

Washington (CNN) – National Democrats are sharpening their criticism of House Minority Leader John Boehner, airing a second national commercial charging that the Ohio Republican is too close to powerful interest groups in the nation's capital.

The Democratic National Committee is already airing a TV ad that accuses Boehner of helping big business at the expense of working Americans. The new commercial, which will air on MSNBC through the end of the week, is largely based on a recent story in The New York Times that highlights his ties to lobbyists.

A DNC official tells CNN that the goal is to try and tie Boehner to past Republican scandals and K-Street, the corridor that cuts through the nation's capital where many lobbying shops are housed. Boehner is in line to become the speaker if Republicans were to win the House majority in November.

Michael Steel, a Boehner's spokesman dismissed the ad as a Democratic attack designed to shift the conversation away from the economy.

"Out-of-touch and flailing, Washington Democrats are desperate to change the topic, but the American people won't forget their job-killing record," Steel said. "The premise of this ad is just silly."

Sorry, but you can't effectively run against a Congressman from another state. It may work in his district, but given that Ohioans like Bush better than Obama, it's unlikely to work.

Let's face it, as long as the President continues to decry "the system" in which all of us made any money we've ever made, it's going to be tough for Dems.

The lazy overgrown oompa loompa wants to be speaker – and will be if people are dumb enough to vote republicon. So he is absolutely fair game. See the other story about republicons throwing water on a mock Speaker Pelosi – at least the critiques about boner and his goofy ideas are relevant, not some stupid youtube kiddie video, as if this were a campaign for student council.

"Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.

"In conflict tactics there are certain rules that [should be regarded] as universalities. One is that the opposition must be singled out as the target and 'frozen.'... "

Ah yes, the Dems play well by the Rules for Radicals.

Too bad they can't actually run on their record of "accomplishments."

Let's see... 9.7% unemployment vs. Republicans are evil.
Now, which message do you think they'll run on?

So he thinks "Democrats are desperate to change the topic."

Okay, let's talk about the topic at hand. Why is he leading the charge to block tax breaks for 98% of Americans? Why is he leading the charge to block tax relief for small businesses? Why did he lead the charge to prevent legislation allowing for greater credit access for small businesses?

Ask him those questions and see how much he stutters and how quickly HE "changes the topic".

If every democratic job creating measure is voted down by the GObP in congress, don't the obstructionists have some responsibility for the unemployment?

If Boehner voted against the Obama economic policies then I would consider him doing his job. I just listened to Obama speak about the economy, he stated that many Americans have heard about the recession we are in. Heard about the recession Mr. Obama? The only ones that have simply "Heard about" the recession are those with a government nipple in their mouths, collecting their government checks with uninterrupted steady flow funds from OUR tax dollars. The other 8 million of us are LIVING IT Mr. Obama. I am sure you don't get it because your paychecks and perks are unencumbered by something as trivial as a collapse of the market due to DC's very policies. You want to fix it, fix government, down size and make it work for the people that pay for it! VOTE THESE IDIOTS OUT IN NOVEMBER, VOTE YES FOR NO!

Boehner golfs with big business lobbyists and wall street big wigs regularly, and is seen around DC in bars almost nightly with the same.

He's bought and paid for by the wealthiest lobbyists ever.

House Minority Leader John Boehner is a bone head. He paints his face orange so that he can identify with minority groups.

No one of any intelligence believes Boehner will support tax cuts for middle class. He has not and will never represent us, throwing us constantly under the bus for his Wall St and the rich.
He brought 100 lobbyists to DC to try and defeat finance reform. He apologized to BP for being held responsible for one of the worst environmental, economical diasters ever. He instigated voting no to every policy presented to try and get our country back on it's feet.
He and his party have done everything they can to obstruct, destruct any improvement, advancement for our economy, consequently our country, ALL for the sake of regaining power and winning this next election.
There is nothing he and his party will not do to win at any cost.

I think Boehner could have become a decent congressmean if he had not spent 119 days last year on the golf course and 119 days of playing the 19th hole. His "Hell no!" rants tell us he is not ready to be third in line to the presidency.

Read the article again...this time substitute "Obama" and "union" in place of "Boehner" and "Lobbyists." For what that's worth, insert any politician in there. They're all crooked. If you don't believe that, then you're probably crooked too.

Hey Steele! First of all . . . why are you still speaking??? Isn't your 15 minutes of fame over yet? Well, if not yet . . . soon! Secondly, there is nothing "silly" about Congress selling out the middle class of this country to lobbyists! That is CENTRAL to the economy, dufus!!!

I say just let Boehner be. He's completely harmless and incompetent, and honestly, I think he should have a lifetime appointment to Congress so we can continue to laugh at the fact that he looks like a Cheeto.

The dems need to have a scapegoat for their complete failure in supporting Obama 's economic policies.House leader Boehner seems to be the one that they chose. And to choose MSNBC to launch their salvo show how desperate they are for a friendly audience. It won't work as they have been in total charge for the last 4 years of Congress and with Obama in the W.H. have had the power to do whtever they have wanted as evidensed by the unpopular healthcare legislation that they passed.

I hope John Boehner points out that Chuck Schumer and Harry Reid have received more lobbyist money in the past 18 months than John Boehner has received in the past six count them, 6 elections. Botox Pelosi and at least 18 other demorats have received at least twice as much money from lobbyists than John Boehner.
